Is there any way of downloading videos etc on iPads without internet?

We will be going on holiday soon and one of my dc is autistic. He watches videos on YouTube mainly. Most of the games he plays also all need the internet apart from basic minecraft. Is there any way to download a load of videos off you tube before we leave the house so we can watch those? Or not even on YouTube, anything else? Tv programmes etc?

He won’t sit and listen to music, not an option. We have portable DVD player but it’s bulky.

Any one know? He seems to think he can download but you need to pay for premium on YouTube?

A program called 4K Downloader will download from you tube. There is a premium version and a free version, but even the “paid for” version is only something like £6 for a lifetime licence.

If you want to download specifically you tube then you will need to pay. But yes can download from terrestrial channels, Netflix, Amazon Prime and if you have Sky pretty much anything from there.

If you don't have Netflix it's worth don't the month free trial just for this

It’s the videos that he wants, there aren’t that many favourite tv programmes. So it is you tube really (just spoke to him about it) what would I pay or how do I go about that?

I do have amazon prime and last year we went away I down loaded a bunch of programmes but they didn’t work when we were away!

No you download before you go as you need the internet to download. Sorry checking that the content will be watchable anywhere, your Amazon downloads were presumably being watched I I a country with a rights conflict. Normally if you put the iPad on airplane mode on the plane and leave it like that you're fine.

Yes that’s probably what it was.... it was on my iPad I don’t think it was on aeroplane mode!

So if I pay YouTube premium, get him to download and then get on the aeroplane and keep his iPad on aeroplane mode the whole time until we get home? Is it restricted how much you can download?

An account or a channel? Are they not two different things? I don’t want him having a channel and able to upload videos etc of himself, and he would I know he would!

It's the same, but make an account for yourself, download his videos, he can't upload when he's in airport mode and delete the channel and trial when your home.

Ok so (forgive me I’m not great with technology) so he wouldn’t be able to access anything InAppropriate on my account? So is it like hotmail, for example I could log onto my hotmail account on his iPad but wouldn’t give him the log in.... and then log out and he wouldn’t have been able to access anything? Can’t think of any other example.

Can you use your phone as a mobile internet hotspot and that will give you internet access.

I can do that but not on an aeroplane or each time he wants to go on his tablet on the holiday as will cost a fortune as will eat all my data. Plus I tried to do that last year and the internet was crap where we were (Spanish island) and will be similar this year no doubt.

He will need to be logged in to watch the downloaded videos, but you can log out of YouTube when he's done. When your online he will be able to access YouTube as a whole, if it's going to be on airport mode for the whole holiday he will only have access to the downloaded videos.

If your not going to be online because of it eating into data, download the videos on an account, you can only access those and not upload without net.

Download them at home via something like https://www.onlinevideoconverter.com/youtube-converter

Save as mp4s.

Ds thinks you'd need to do this on a laptop then connect the iPad to the laptop, because 'iPads are weird'.

If you have a tablet that takes a usb, you could just keep the downloaded videos on that.

It’s safe and cheap (free version available) and very simple to operate. It works on all platforms, although I’ve only used it on windows. I’ve used it for the past 3 years, and I have the paid version, but as I said previously, it is only a few quid for a lifetime licence.

The 4K downloader thing says macOS, windows and Ubuntu.... we only have the iPad.... would it still work?

Can you still log onto YouTube if you don’t have internet? If I get the premium?
