How long did it take you to lose three stone?

I weighed myself today for the first time in ages. 12 stone 4 and I'm 5'5 Sad it's the biggest I've ever been, and entirely my own fault. Too much cake.

I'm lightly active, don't have a huge amount of time to to do exercise classes, it's diet. I eat healthily, but I eat too much, and I have a sweet tooth. Too many carbs too.

I have a family party at the end of July, it's quite a big thing, and I'd absolutely love to be a size 12 by them.. Currently I'm a 14. Obviously I know I won't lose three stone by then, but a stone perhaps? I have no idea, I've never had to lose weight properly before. I feel that if I had a rough sense of how long it will all take it would be easier to stick to

It took me about 9 months! I'm 5"5 and went from 13st 7 to 10st 2 eating 1200 cals and not exercising. Maintained 10st 4 for almost 3 years now. I'd say you'd be able to lose a fair bit before the end of July, I think I lost about 6lb in the first 10 days and about a stone in the first 6 weeks.

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 15/06/2019 17:52

I'm a bit taller than you but have lost 4lbs in 10 days by calorie counting (1200 a day) and keeping carbs to a minimum. I'm hoping to lose another 3 over the next fortnight, so I think you could realistically lose a stone by the end of July.

Good luck!

NoWordForFluffy · 15/06/2019 17:54

I lost 4 stone in 4 months, so on average a stone a month.

It took me 5 months. At the beginning of June last year,I was 20 stone 2 lbs. By the end of October,I was 17 stone 2 lbs. I then lost another stone between the end of October and the end of January this year. The first 3 stone was relatively easy and I achieved it by cutting out sweets, cakes and desserts basically. I reckon my average daily calorie intake was about 1900. People often seem surprised that I lost weight on such a high amount, but when you have as much to lose as I have, the first few stone can be shed at a comparatively high amount. It's when you get to the last few stone that you struggle. Since the end of January I haven't managed to lose any more, but thankfully I have not put any of it back on. My excuse is that I found it really difficult to cut down in the colder weather (I get SO hungry in the cold weather!). Now summer is here (supposedly) I'm making more of an effort again and hope to have lost another stone by the end of August.

Low carb, low sugar, lean protein and fat for energy. Fast800 is based on those principles and 800 calories a day. It's not starvation and you do get fast results.

carla1983 · 15/06/2019 18:30

Took me 2 years to lose 1.5 stone. I did 5:2 and did'nt want to crash diet

hopeishere · 15/06/2019 18:34

I so need to lose weight but really struggle. Hopefully this thread will be an inspiration!!

KindergartenKop · 15/06/2019 19:44

I think you can do it in 6-9 months. You could lose a stone by July though. Weight loss slows down if you have less to lose.

Tessalectus · 15/06/2019 19:47

3 months. But you don't want to go down that road...

TheSmallAssassin · 15/06/2019 19:59

It took me about 7 months - I went from 91kg to 72kg, calorie counting using My Fitness Pal. My biggest changes were doing 10k steps a day, keeping an eye on portion sizes, no second helpings and cutting out most snacks. Once I'd got used to having a bit less on my plate, it was pretty easy to lose at that rate. I did start running more and that helped to give me a bit of credit towards treats 😊

My weight has crept up to 76kg over a couple of years, but I'm maintaining at that level. I still keep an eye on the calories, but I'm not "dieting".

Steamedpud · 15/06/2019 20:04

3 months Shock a friend of mine lost a huge amount of weight in a similar amount of time, but that was a divorce diet and certainly not intended...

I'd love to lose 4lb in ten days! I'm absolutely horrified that I'm over 12 stone. I've my eye on a lovely dress that will be perfect for the party in a size 12,so hopefully...

Portion size is definitely hard for me. And I love carbs!

I lost it in three months doing stupid fad low carb diets but it didn't stay off.

Lost in eight months by eliminating snacks, cutting portion sizes (eating three meals a day) and running. And have kept it off.

Slow and steady leads to longer term weight loss.

Bluerussian · 15/06/2019 20:09

Took me about six months altogether. Once I lost a stone it started to fall off. I was exercising more - nothing drastic - eating well and felt ten times better.

Buying a whole load of new clothes was nice too!

Like you I am 5'5" and being over 12st was far too heavy.

Tortoiselass · 15/06/2019 20:11

Honestly if you just bin the snacks and cut your portions that will help enormously.

I am 5ft3. An appropriate portion of pasta for my height is 60g (dry weight). Before I was easily eating upwards of 100g so no wonder I was fat. I still eat pasta 2-3 times a week but now I have the correct portion and half my plate is salad. Eat the veg/salad part of your meal first.

A typical example of a normal day now for me is

Breakfast - full fat Greek yoghurt, honey, berries (add oats if having a low carb lunch or dinner)

Lunch - mozzarella, basil and tomato salad with 1 slice sourdough, buttered

Dinner - pasta with tomato and parmesan sauce, big bowl of salad

And I run 3 times a week.

PARunnerGirl · 15/06/2019 20:13

8 months for me. Slow .. but that was 7 years ago and I have never gained it back.

ClashCityRocker · 15/06/2019 20:16

I'm slightly shorter and around the same weight. I find the first stone comes off fairly quickly - within about four to six weeks without doing anything to drastic - just watching the calories. Then it tends to slow down a bit, and more like half a stone a month.

I reckon you could make a noticible difference by July.

NaToth · 15/06/2019 20:16

Six years, but I got there!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 15/06/2019 20:21

I'd love to lose 2.5 stone or even the holy grail of 3 stone.

If I could do it in a year I'd be absolutely delighted.

3 stone is 42lb. 1lb a week off and contingency of 10 weeks where you don't lose or even gain a bit = 1 year.

LuluBellaBlue · 15/06/2019 20:22

My friend is juicing (so only juices every day) and has lost 24lbs in 24 days!!
She’s only 12 stone to start to not huge excess to rid of.
I’m currently day 6 water fasting and when I last weighted myself on day 3 I’d lost 7lbs but currently travelling so can’t weigh until tomorrow.

Steamedpud · 15/06/2019 20:24

I do need to weigh pasta Blush

I don't eat breakfast either - it makes me feel sick. My eldest child is in secondary school, but I had dreadful hyperemesis and since then, breakfast has gone out the window. My mum thinks that if I ate breakfast, I'd lose weight more quickly and maintain--does anyone know if there's any truth in that?

Completely unsustainable and heinous advice, please as someone who has been there do not seek a quick fix. It doesn't exist.

BIWI · 15/06/2019 20:25

@Tortoiselass I don't know what you did, but a low carb diet is definitely not a fad diet!

@Steamedpud Have a look at the Fast800 diet - it's very low calorie (800 calories per day) and also lower carb. But the science behind it is very persuasive.

FattySmith · 15/06/2019 20:25

About 5 1/2 months. I lost about 2lb a week to start off with. Calorie counting with MFP and not really exercising.

I’m 5ft5 and started off 14st 13lb I’m 10st 12 now and a size 14 is starting to get a bit big 👍

I found the monitoring/weighing everything quite a revelation in terms of how much I’d been mindlessly eating. Not sure I’d recommend it though (calorie counting) it messes with your head and relation with food IME

bellyislikejelly · 15/06/2019 20:26

4 stone in a year with Slimming world then maintained for 3 years. Decided i wanted another stone off which i lost within 7 weeks by calorie counting - now is the hard part, keeping it off!

BentNeckLady · 15/06/2019 20:26

That sounds like a sure fire way to fuck up your body Hmm

I lost 3 stone in about 5 months with SW and then another stone after that. I’ve kept most of it off.
