How long did it take you to lose three stone?

Steamedpud · 15/06/2019 16:06

I weighed myself today for the first time in ages. 12 stone 4 and I'm 5'5 Sad it's the biggest I've ever been, and entirely my own fault. Too much cake.

I'm lightly active, don't have a huge amount of time to to do exercise classes, it's diet. I eat healthily, but I eat too much, and I have a sweet tooth. Too many carbs too.

I have a family party at the end of July, it's quite a big thing, and I'd absolutely love to be a size 12 by them.. Currently I'm a 14. Obviously I know I won't lose three stone by then, but a stone perhaps? I have no idea, I've never had to lose weight properly before. I feel that if I had a rough sense of how long it will all take it would be easier to stick to

My mum thinks that if I ate breakfast, I'd lose weight more quickly and maintain--does anyone know if there's any truth in that?

It's irrelevant. Weight loss is calories in vs calories out.

I do think however that if you skip breakfast you are more likely to end up eating more than you should do later in the day.

If I'm not hungry in the morning, I don't eat breakfast but I just have my lunch and dinner as normal, I don't add on extra to make up for no breakfast. If I'm going for a run I might have a banana or an apple just before but that's it.

Slimming World is ace now. I’m on it and it feels just like sensible eating.

BIWI

Respectfully BIWI, I've been on the low carb boot camp threads and it absolutely is.

ArthurMc · 15/06/2019 20:30

I started at the same weight as you in January and I am now 10 stones. Maintained in April as one of my dc had an an op so my focus was elsewhere. I lose slowly but still losing.

beela · 15/06/2019 20:31

It took me just over a year, averaging 1lb per week to start with, and then 0.5lb per week as I got closer to my target. I went from 12st7 to 9st7 (I'm 5'4).

I did it by following no-s and getting fantastic support from threads on here!

heartshapedknob · 15/06/2019 20:34

I lose about half a stone a month if I track what I’m eating to maintain a calorie deficit and stick to sensible portions (palm sized protein, cupped handful of carbs, half a plate of salad or veg, thumb sized portion of fat per meal.) I don’t eat breakfast often. Been doing this since mid-January (after losing three stones a couple of years ago and maintains that) and am a further 2.5 stones down so far.

Tortoiselass · 15/06/2019 20:36

I think no-s is great actually, as long as you can stick to not going overboard on "s" days.

BIWI · 15/06/2019 21:24

Why do you think it's a fad? There's a load of good science supporting low carbing - and if you've been on Bootcamp I would have expected that you would have read some of that Confused

Tortoiselass · 15/06/2019 21:28

I don't need to talk about it BIWI, I was a low carb follower for many years and I know full well it works and it works quickly, but ultimately I do not believe demonising an entire food group leads to a healthy long term relationship with food.

I eat all carbs now, I maintain my weight with ease, I don't have cravings and I'm happier (and thinner) by far than I ever was low carbing.

Hollowvictory · 15/06/2019 21:32

What's a normal day on 1200 calories look like?

Tortoiselass · 15/06/2019 21:34

1200 cals is pretty low. Could be :

Breakfast - porridge, fruit

Lunch - chicken breast, salad

Dinner - white fish, veg, perhaps a couple of new potatoes

Groovee · 15/06/2019 21:35

25 weeks so 6 months.

beela · 15/06/2019 21:36

@Tortoiselass that's where the 'sometimes' comes in Smile

No-s makes so much sense to me, seems like the way people used to eat before snacks and cheap sugar became so ubiquitous.

Tortoiselass · 15/06/2019 21:37

I'm with you beela don't worry, I never snack now.

TheCrowdSayBoSecta · 15/06/2019 21:38

I lost 3 stone in about 4 months on slimming world whilst breastfeeding... just had second baby and need to lose a stone now - going to do loose slimming world this time... low fat and cutting out the crap.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/06/2019 21:42

It took me 6/7 months and I've kept it off for nearly a year now.

I did the blood sugar diet and cut the carbs.

MintyCedric · 15/06/2019 21:51

I'm aiming to lose a stone by 20th July...going for Fast800 plus beginners 30-Day Shred which I may just do every other day depending on how I get on with it.

I am much bigger than you though!

Gamorasgran · 15/06/2019 22:00

Steampud I am almost exactly the same - an inch shorter and 5lb lighter, same activity and same 'issues'

I lost 4.5 stone a few years ago and have kept 3.5 off using my fitness pal and a Fitbit. I did do the fast 800 and lost 1.5 stone in 8 weeks but struggle with low carb so regained a stone of that (plus hard year last year and potential thyroid disorder).

Tbh, I find it really hard now. Less than 1200 cals per week and reduced carbs (None for breakfast, piece of fruit with lunch, carbs for dinner and a small
Sweet treat) will see me lose a lb a week.

Steamedpud · 15/06/2019 22:18

What's no-s?

Thank youseeing actual time scales is really helpful and makes me feel more positive, rather than just feeling miserable about what a wibbly jelly I am. To the PP above who eats thumb sized and fist sized amounts of thingsI've never heard of that particular visual before, that's exactly what I need!

Will look into fast800, not sure I could do it forever but I quite like the idea of getting all the sugar and crap out of my system at first

160cm, started at 4 stone 5lb.

Lost 3 stone (down to 11 stone 5) last year between June and September, had a weeks holiday during this time. Did a weird SW 5:2 hybrid plan Confused

Ibe lost just over a stone more between September and Christmas and been maintaining it since, counting calories.

Parney · 15/06/2019 22:28

14stone 5lb not 4 stone

Sofasurfingsally · 15/06/2019 22:39

I'm 12 2 and 5'4. Also trying to lose at the moment but without a "diet". I'm sick of diets and want a longer term sustainable solution. I can't run, but I am walking.

Tortoiselass · 15/06/2019 22:52

Sofasurfingsally

Walking is great. No snacking and making sure your portions aren't too big will do the trick.
