What did you eat during pregnancy?

Posting here for traffic.

I'm 10 weeks and have been sick for 5 weeks. Keep getting asked what I feel like eating. I've gone off everything I'd normally eat and struggling to find things I want to eat.

So can you tell me, what did you crave or eat a lot of? Maybe it will tickle my fancy and I can finally eat something that doesn't make my stomach turn --grasping at straws.

I didn’t crave it but the only thing I could stomach in the first trimester was cream cheese (specifically Philadelphia) on toast

Napssavelives · 15/06/2019 06:37

Toast and chips in first trimester. Plain carbs

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 15/06/2019 06:53

I was horribly sick from week 6-16. In those weeks I lived on ready salted crisps and Philadelphia and marmite sandwiches. Plain jacket potato with cheese. Lots of ribena! There's only so many times you can throw something up before you go off it. Pretty much gave up meat altogether- just couldn't stomach it!

Cheese and onion crisps, plain crisps, lemonade and chip shop sausages. That’s basically all I ate for 12 weeks. Everything else made me feel ridiculously unwell.

Thankfully the second trimester was much easier and I started eating reasonably well again after 15 weeks.

whatliketoeat · 15/06/2019 06:58

Well I don't feel like eating any of those things except maybe crisps Grinbut you've all made me feel a lot better about my very limited diet. My fil keeps saying 'you have to eat, you have to persevere'. What's the point if I throw it up?!

Mashed potato, strawberry milkshake and ginger nut biscuits.

Tumilnaughts · 15/06/2019 07:02

All I could eat was ice cream and jacket potato with just butter on it (maybe cheese if I hadn't been sick that day).

firstimemamma · 15/06/2019 07:04

Ignore your FIL, he doesn't have a clue! I didn't get morning sickness and pretty much ate everything but my craving was fresh fruit, especially citrus fruit. Hope you feel better soon Thanks

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 15/06/2019 07:07

I was horrible sick in the first 18 weeks or so. I remember being revolted by the smell of washing up liquid Confused among many other things. I survived on lemon and lime fizzy water and salt and vinegar crisps. When the nausea went I still ate pretty bland food, jacket potatoes and whole meal bread sandwiches pretty much every day, but it did me no harm, I put on just 15 pounds and had a huge fat 9 pound 4 baby! The first weeks of pregnancy are rough so don’t worry too much about what you’re eating, just try to eat what you can x

userabcname · 15/06/2019 07:08

Wait until the sickness eases. In my first pregnancy I had HG and basically lived on sports drinks that I sipped very slowly for energy. This time I've not been so bad but could really only stomach plain toast or plain crackers until 16 weeks. Once it goes you'll be able to eat better. Ignore FIL he is talking nonsense.

ememem84 · 15/06/2019 07:09

Salt and vinegar squares. Red coke.

Midwife told me to treat morning sickness as I would a hangover so eat the foods I would if I was hanging 😂 it worked.

Carby foods. Cheese roasties. Yummm.

FirstTimeMumApril19 · 15/06/2019 07:10

I had hyperemisis from week four until my baby was put in my arms. Before I had it under control I lived of tomato soup, sausage rolls, ginger biscuits and ice lollies. I couldn't drink, so ice lollies were my liquid replacement.

If you get really sick/nauseous go to your doctor and ask for anti sickness tablets. It's really worth doing.

FirstTimeMumApril19 · 15/06/2019 07:12

I forgot say, food isn't important in pregnancy but it's important to keep fluids up. I also had a very healthy baby...9lb 12.

PolarBearBubbles · 15/06/2019 07:14

Crackers, cheese and crisps!
Tell your FIL to sod off, it's nothing to do with him. Forcing food down that makes you feel worse is ridiculous.

RebootYourEngine · 15/06/2019 07:41

I am reading this with interest.

I am 7 weeks and I have been feeling nauseous but haven't been sick. The thought of food makes it worse but if I am hungry I feel really bad so need to eat.

I can stomach ginger biscuits, toasts, crisps, cold sausage rolls. I have been craving fast food.

Morning sickness is the devil.

toastfiend · 15/06/2019 07:44

Crumpets with butter and marmite for the first 12 weeks. They were pretty much the only thing I could stomach when I felt really nauseous. Occasionally, on a good day, my Mum's homemade Cornish pasties (she made me a freezer stash!) or a jacket potato with beans, cheese and bacon or a gammon steak. Also roast potatoes, I used to make trays of roast potatoes and eat them all myself. The only fruit I could stomach was mango. Salad and vegetables all made me feel a million times worse.

PinkDaffodil2 · 15/06/2019 07:44

I managed a lot of mini cheddars during the first trimester. My nausea started to settle around 10-12 weeks though and I’ve been really enjoying eating loads of ice food since then though. I hope it gets better for you soon xx

DuggeesWoggle · 15/06/2019 07:45

Toast, salty carbs and then glasses of pineapple juice to clear the furry mouth feeling. Thankfully nausea and vomiting wasn't too bad this time but you really do go off things. The smell of cucumber made me heave!

Now I have got gestational diabetes so can only dream of toast and pineapple juice!!

Dec2019mumtobe · 15/06/2019 07:47

Fresh pasta (usually filled with spinach & ricotta or just plain old tagliatelle) with grated cheddar on top

Pretty much lived off that for weeks. I'd only ever have a tiny portion and it only takes 5 mins to boil

Microwave fish pie (cheaper the better) basically just fish, white sauce and mash

Mozzarella because it's so plain and bland (but I like it)

Philadelphia for the same reason

Scrambled egg

Popcorn

All verrrrry beige you might notice!

ArtichokeAardvark · 15/06/2019 07:47

Toast and marmite, and cantaloupe melon. Not a lot else. 8 weeks today.

whatswithtodaytoday · 15/06/2019 07:53

Beige carbs. Salt. I remember a dinner of baked potatoes with cheese and gravy being the best thing I'd ever eaten at 14 weeks (I felt sick until about 18 weeks). I also remember eating a ready meal lasagne with crisps dipped in at about 8 weeks. That was a low point, I hadn't eaten all day and felt dreadful.

Morning sickness is utterly hideous, you have my sympathies.

BostonFern · 15/06/2019 07:55

Cheese and cucumber sandwiches, but it had to be white bread and grated cheese 😂
Jacket potatoes with a bit of cheese.
McDonalds (not healthy I know, but sometimes it felt like it was all I could face).
Cadbury flake yogurt pots.
Apple juice.
Ice pops for the evening when I felt most nauseous.

I'm 16 weeks now and most days the food aversions appear to have gone, had the odd day where I've struggled, but it's much better at the moment.

ThatLady · 15/06/2019 07:57

Salt and vinegar flavoured Hula Hoops.

TheSheepofWallSt · 15/06/2019 08:00

I was lucky I wasn’t sickly at all- except I did develop a few food aversions.

I craved white sticky rice with soy sauce or just salt in the first trimester. And towards the end, packaged tuna sweet corn sandwiches and ice cream.

crazyforpiggies · 15/06/2019 08:02

I've gone off everything too. At the moment i'm eating sandwiches and fruit.
