Cornedbeef hash with garlic

Just mentioned to my very traditional DF that I put garlic in cornedbeef hash. He nearly had an heart attack & went all Peter Kay on me. Anyone else put garlic in CBH? Smile

Garlic and you mash the potato? What's wrong with you OP? Grin

Well I'm a Lancashire lass and it's diced potatoes, onions, carrots and peas if you like, boiled up in water, corned beef added, then tiny bit of gravy granules. Tastes amazing just as it comes. The kids say muuuuum can we have corned beef hash! And it can be done from scratch in way less than an hour, no garlic involved.
I keep meaning to try making it the layering way though with mash topping.

Has to be in a pie!

Corned beef, mashed potatoes, all set in delicious pastry and then smothered in ketchup at the table.

No onions, no mushrooms (WTF?), no leeks, no garlic.

What's wrong with you people?

My DM made CBH and it was a crispy thing in a pan as described by Notso. Family favourite.

Went on holiday and saw it on a pub menu - yum, we thought. Got served some horrible slushy gloop ShockSad

First insight that CBH is many, many recipes - have never had it outside our house again.

I love garlic. When a recipe asks for a clove I use three. MINIMUM. I also sprinkle chilli flakes into many dishes you wouldn't expect them. Cheese on a shepherd's pie? Sure. A taste of heaven. But garlic in CBH?

No. Just no.

I can confirm that at Aintree Hospital it appears to be potato and corned beef cooked and mashed together. It tastes amazing! There’s def no onion in it as it’s on the low residue diet list.

Mmm... corned beef hash. Definitely no garlic in ours and mum used to do the veggies in a pressure cooker (add the corned beef later), which seems fairly unique looking at the answers above! haha. For me, it should be the consistency of mash. I made some recently after hearing them talking about it on the radio and I was in proper food nostalgia heaven. It tasted just the same as hers and I haven't had it/seen it in 20 yrs! DH thinks I am a great big weirdo!

@Southwest12

My mum's cat leaves piles like that around the house when it it unwell

sugartitz · 15/03/2019 20:41

My mums version (and now mine!) is simply
Mashed potato
With chunks of corned beef mashed into into it. Big dollop on the plate serves with beans or spaghetti hoops.
