Cornedbeef hash with garlic

FullOnMonet1975 · 13/03/2019 17:18

Just mentioned to my very traditional DF that I put garlic in cornedbeef hash. He nearly had an heart attack & went all Peter Kay on me. Anyone else put garlic in CBH? Smile

Shitting hell. This is as hideous as the bolognese post. People adding fucking Peas and peppers and other shite to a bolognese. I'll never get over it. Never.
OP I love garlic and I applaud your bravery!

Veterinari · 13/03/2019 18:41

Soontobe60 is correct! That other recipe is not CBH!

The whole point is that is cheap delicious stovetop comfort food

DilysMoon · 13/03/2019 18:47

It's just potato and corned beef here maybe onion and sometimes grated cheese grilled on top.Grin. I like mine with beetroot, dh with brown sauce. I like the sound of garlic thanks op.

Corned beef hash which isn't golden and crispy is actually called 'corned beef splat'.

imnottoofussed · 13/03/2019 19:10

Ah see our corned beef hash (northwest England ) is the one done in the pan on the hob as per the second recipe on this thread. It's not put in the oven and it's wet. You dip bread and butter in it.

The one earlier in the thread is the weird hash recipe which is dry.

You definitely wouldn't want garlic in the proper hash recipe done on the hob.

aneres · 13/03/2019 19:22

I don't know if I dare post but here goes - I put a tin of toms in mine.

FullOnMonet1975 · 13/03/2019 19:23

Apologies for an offence this thread has caused Grin

My recipe:
Potatoes, onions, garlic & beef oxo boiled for 25 minutes then drained
Melt butter in pan, add the above back to the pan & add cornedbeef then mash
I served it with green beans tossed with olive & crushed garlic GrinGrin & pickled onions

We like ours to have a mash consistency but my parents prefer it runny so they can dip bread in it.

What the fuck even is corned beef hash? My only memory of corned beef is dodgy sandwiches as a child in the 80s and it having to be opened with some weird key thing

YesQueen · 13/03/2019 19:34

What @Soontobe60 said
I like it with pickled red cabbage, crusty bread and butter and HP sauce

AuntGertrude · 13/03/2019 19:47

Make your mash and lots of butter in it.
Fry onions, add your crumbled/cubed corned beef and a tin of beans and a dollop of tomato sauce and some Worcester sauce. Put in ovenproof dish and top with mash and shedloads of cheese; oven for 15 mins. Serve with bread and butter (and peas if you must).

Dillyson · 13/03/2019 19:48

I've never had corned beef hash. 😳

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 21:10

I put garlic in pretty much everything tbh, haven't tried in CBH but may next time

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 21:15

Although I make it as more like a stew as my mother used to

Chopped parboiled potatoes, carrots, onions, chopped leek, two tins of chopped corned beef, a handful of orange lentils, half a hand of those teeny tiny pasta flowers, a tin of Heinz veg soup, tomato paste, salt, pepper.

Serve in a giant Yorkshire pudding bowl. Maybe that's just the Yorkshire way though, have never had it grilled.

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 21:15

Although I usually don't add leek if being honest

36degrees · 13/03/2019 21:21

We had CBH for tea tonight (fry onions, add chopped carrots, spuds, 2 beef Oxo cubes, boil until cooked, add tin of good corned beef for last 2 mins) but had to have it with sliced toasted pittas instead of tiger bread slathered in butter, because I couldn't be arsed going out again. That was a mistake, as was using Aldi corned beef. Still ate it though.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 13/03/2019 21:27

My mother always makes it like this... mashed potatoes, diced onion, corned beef cut into cubes and a tin of beans. Mix it all together, cheese on top and into the oven for half an hour. I do the same without the cheese
It’s my guilty pleasure dinner. Dh and toddler ds think it’s absolutely disgusting

funmummy48 · 13/03/2019 21:42

We've always had garlic in corned beef hash, along with onions, a tin of tomatoes (without the juice), a tin of baked beans and a topping of mashed potato & grated cheese. Delicious!

user1483390742 · 13/03/2019 21:52

Since when did people start eating corned beef again?
Will it become a post Brexit staple?
Is it the stuff in a square tin from my childhood?
Can you get it in Sainsburys?
Isn't it mainly lard?
What's going on?!?! Shock

miltonroad · 13/03/2019 22:07

Beans tomatoes and gravy shouldn’t be near it either 🤮 www.deliaonline.com/recipes/international/american-mexican-and-caribbean/corned-beef-hash-with-fried-eggs

CakeNinja · 14/03/2019 10:35

I’ve never had CBH and I won’t be trying it any time soon based on these recipes - it sounds like a gross sloppy hot mess Envy

RabbitseatDogs · 14/03/2019 10:42

I think that sounds lovely. I used to love corned beef hash!! But I no longer eat cows 🐄 🐄 🐄. Do you think there's a way to make vegetarian corned beef hash? Ali miss Fray Bentos pies too.

bengalcat · 14/03/2019 10:45

Comfort food - all the variations sound yum - thinking of doing CBH for dinner tonight and stuffing it into the leftover Yorkshire pudds from last Sunday’s roast

FullOnMonet1975 · 14/03/2019 10:53

I'm definitely going to be trying CBH in a yorkshire pud ... annoyed I've never thought of this before Angry
