Which brand(s) are you on just now ? I'm off gin until April but I shall begin by finishing ( if that's possible) the bottle of Beefeater I opened last September. I usually go for slightly higher quality offerings such as Tanqueray and Morrison's Best and I'm happy with Schweppes tonic. Fever Tree doesn't really do it for me. I've yet to try Aldi gin but there's a new Aldi being built nearby so there may be an opportunity there.

Harris Gin is my favourite but I need Fever Tree tonic.

TheOnceAndFutureQueen · 10/03/2019 11:11

Rock Rose gin is amazing!! It's made in a really small distillery at Dunnet in Scotland but you can buy it on amazon. They also make 4 seasonal gins throughout the year which are bloody lovely!

Saucery · 10/03/2019 11:12

Lakes Distillery and Cuckoo Gin.

I like Whitley Neill, Siblings is delicious but £££.
Was given a bottle of a local Cotswold gin for Christmas which I’m looking forward to after Lent.
Totally agree re Gordon’s pink, it’s like alcopops!

EverybodysTalkingAtMe · 10/03/2019 11:50

You just CANNOT use Schweppes - the taste of the artificial sweeteners ruins any subtleties that your carefully selected gin contains - you might as well chuck it down the sink.

Backseatonthebus · 10/03/2019 11:55

I've just tried some Rock Rose Navy Strength. Bloody hell it was strong.

PS 'just' as in recently, not this morning Grin

EverybodysTalkingAtMe · 10/03/2019 11:58

...in fact any diet tonic or mixer will ruin your drink 😣

TheSilveryHildaOgden · 10/03/2019 12:08

I asked for some non-alcoholic gin for Christmas, and, being an old gimmer, expected standard tasting gin. Instead I was given herb and pea flavoued gin Confused, and am at a loss as to what mixer to use. Tried tonic, but that was no good. Any ideas?

I can't really drink alcoholic spirits as I don't know when to stop but I think that underlyingly this is quite promising as an alternative.

winsinbin · 10/03/2019 12:10

I like Schweppes slim line , I guess it’s because it’s what I’m used to. I dislike Fevertree tonics, to me they just taste a bit dull and bland. My best mate is the opposite. He LOVES Fevertree. Happily we have found a couple of bars that offer both so we can still enjoy a drink together.

If you like the taste of Gordon’s but find it weak, try the Gordon’s London Dry with a yellow label. I don’t know if you can buy it in the night street but it’s widely available at duty free outlets. The usual, taste of Gordon’s in the green bottle and it’s 47% proof, a bit strong for me but (adult) DD likes it.

Plump82 · 10/03/2019 12:49

I was given a bottle of One gin and it was so so good. Easily my favourite. Highly recommended. Its really smooth and refreshing.

Notwiththeseknees · 10/03/2019 14:22

Try Thomas Dakin Manchester Gin. It has a bit of a kick to it......

ketchupormayo · 10/03/2019 14:28

Has anyone done craft gin club before? You pay monthly and they send you gin packages! It's brilliant

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/03/2019 14:31

Adnams First Rate and Copper House are both lovely. At the moment I'm drinking Jawbox, which is really ginny, and have recently finished Warner Edwards Honeybee.

tinstar · 10/03/2019 14:44

I've got about 12 bottles on the go at the moment. It's my new hobby.

Hendricks used to be my favourite (with slices of cucumber) but my top three now are:

Caoroon - with slices of red apple
Tarquin Cornish dry
Skin reptile German gin

I've just been given craft gin club membership and this month's offering was One Gin sage and apple. Absolutely delicious.

Also not getting the thing about different tonics and prefer something plain. I want to taste the gin. Agree slimline has a really nasty after taste. I bought an M and S slimline gin and tonic in a can a few weeks ago to drink on a train. The after taste was absolutely disgusting.

Spiderpants · 10/03/2019 14:49

We had the craft gin club one this month, sage and apple, it was amazing and I'm not a big gin drinker.

pisspawpatrol · 10/03/2019 14:49

I'm enjoying Foxdenton damson at the moment, mixed with lemon tonic and ice.

Doodlekitty · 10/03/2019 14:55

Poetic licence old Tom with ginger ale. With a cinnamon stick and slice of apple ideally.

Mmmmmm

Is it too early for Gin?

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/03/2019 15:00

I really like Rock rose, Monkey 47 and Sulent Pool.
I'm currently drinking a Canadian gin something like Ungara?

JuniperBeer · 10/03/2019 15:52

@TheSilveryHildaOgden is it Seedlip? There’s lots out there. Some interesting tonic will be good, or look at difference garnishes. Have a google for the gin name you’ve got and ‘cocktail’ and you’ll get some good ideas!

Backseatonthebus · 10/03/2019 15:53

Is it Ungava? That's a yellow Canadian one.

If you ever find yourselves in Whitby, the chap who runs the Duke of York is really knowledgeable about gin. I told him the ones I like and he suggested some to try. He started me on the Brockmans love.

Also Rusty Shears cafe does a huge range (180+) plus great food and cake. Perfect really!

Gotthetshirt23 · 10/03/2019 17:25

Had to stop with the gin club .... well toned it down to 1/4 as ended up with a house full of gin bottles Grin
My first from them was Gunshambo Irish in a blue bottle - it's still a favourite and In Sainsbury's and Asda Wink

nixso29 · 10/03/2019 17:33

Tanqueray no 10 is my go to but if I'm spending a bit more i also love Malfy pink grapefruit gin, Boatyard and Shortcross. A slice of pink grapefruit with elderflower tonic is delish! Also a cheap but amazing find for anyone going to Spain is Larios, always come out of the duty free at the airport like a total lush 😂

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/03/2019 22:04

backseat I tried some really lovely gins at that place in Whitby. It's one of my favourite memories of my lovely DH, who didn't like gin, was driving so couldn't drink, and still spent a long afternoon in the Duke of York with me. He was such a kind man.

Elphame · 10/03/2019 22:07

Cheap - Ophir with star anise and coriander. Got to be Fever Tree tonic though as Schweppes is nasty now they have added artificial sweeteners.

Expensive - Botanist

MissKenton · 10/03/2019 22:22

Another member of the craft gin club here. It’s awesome.

Have a few bottles of gin on the go at the moment:

Hendricks with a slice of cucumber, fever tree light tonic and a splash of St Germain elderflower liqueur is divine.
Gin mare with citrus fruits
East London gin very nice
Martin Miller’s
Monkey 47

We’re not alcoholics but my partner and I both reallly love gin and tend to drink this over anything else at the moment
