Which brand(s) are you on just now ? I'm off gin until April but I shall begin by finishing ( if that's possible) the bottle of Beefeater I opened last September. I usually go for slightly higher quality offerings such as Tanqueray and Morrison's Best and I'm happy with Schweppes tonic. Fever Tree doesn't really do it for me. I've yet to try Aldi gin but there's a new Aldi being built nearby so there may be an opportunity there.

Gordon’s and Bombay Grin you won’t go back.

I’ve tried so many and have been to a couple of festivals. Favourites are

Gunpowder Irish

Can’t beat a good Mediterranean tonic, I like fever tree and also fentimans.

A good gin needs a good garnish too. Cucumber works in Hendricks, and I quite like peppercorns in the Japanese ones and Irish ones.

I’m a fan of grapefruit in my gin

MusicToMyEars800 · 09/03/2019 22:26

Try the hortus citrus gin it's botanical flavours are orange, lemon and bergamot with of course bergamot after junipers, have this with fevertree or Schweppes with garnish of lemon, lime or orange!

JuniperBeer · 09/03/2019 22:28

If you like grapefruit in your gin, add a sprig if fresh rosemary too next to it!

scissorsandpen · 09/03/2019 22:31

Ohh nice I will !

MajesticWhine · 10/03/2019 07:06

I'm on Copper house at the moment. It has a strong distinctive slightly earthy flavour. We were in Suffolk last year and bought it there. But nearly run out, I'm going to have to get some more now. Fever tree light is my usual mixer.

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/03/2019 07:18

I make my own tonic. Minimal sugar and makes a big difference!

fussychica · 10/03/2019 07:23

If you want to try some more expensive gins scan the offers on mysupermaket and you can usually find several with £5 -£8 off.
I love Tanqueray 10, Caorunn, Martin Millers and Opihr for something completely different.

confusedofengland · 10/03/2019 07:53

Watching this with interest as for my next Book Club evening I am supplying drinks (& book choice) & am thinking of doing gin. 3 different types. I already have a red gin DH bought from Lisbon, some Tanqueray, then thinking of a flavoured gin, possibly from Aldi or Lidl.

LancashireTea · 10/03/2019 08:09

I love Aldi's plum and Clementine flavour gin. I also like my Sainsbury's pomegranate and rose one. Have a bottle of Bombay that I'm slowly getting through and a bottle of Gordon's import.

I drink mine with lemonade or ginger ale. I hate the quinine in tonic as it generally overpowers everything.

I do love a fancy gin, but am supposed to be cutting down on the booze. I'd have one every night if I could.

ginandbearit · 10/03/2019 08:18

Lots of lovely gins around but i find the tonic waters mask the flavours , by accident and necessity recently used soft still water ..Hillsdown? ..and the taste and aromatics of the gin was really noticeable and lovely .

TapasForTwo · 10/03/2019 08:36

Like Slowknitter I prefer unadulterated gin and plain tonic water. I like gin because of its juniper taste and, having extensively tried many brands and flavours, I always end up going back to Gordon's gin. Diet tonic water ruins the taste of gin for me, and so does flavoured tonic. The refreshingly light Fevertree (it doesn't contain artificial sweeteners) is my favourite tonic water.

I am the same with coffee. I just want it to taste of coffee, nothing else.

BIWI · 10/03/2019 08:42

Gordon's pink gin is an abomination. And if you like to drink that with pink lemonade, then actually what you're saying is you don't like gin!

Can thoroughly recommend Aldi's ordinary gin (square green bottle). At £9.99 a bottle, it's great for 'ordinary' drinking.

We've recently made our own rhubarb gin and raspberry gin - really easy to do. Cut a pack of rhubarb up, put in a glass jug and pour over a litre of gin - ordinary supermarket gin is fine. Leave it for 3-4 days, stirring occasionally, then pour through a sieve back into the gin bottle. Do the same with a punnet of raspberries.

And sorry to the tonic snobs on here - but I prefer Schweppes Slimline. Just a taste I'm used to, plus I don't want the extra calories which even the light versions of other tonics have.

I love the Tanqueray Sevilla gin, and would also agree that Sainsbury's TTD Blackfriars gin is really good.

TapasForTwo · 10/03/2019 08:49

I'm not a tonic snob, I really dislike the sickly foretaste, and the aftertaste that drinks containing artificial sweeteners have. To me they kill the taste of the gin (and they upset my stomach).

TapasForTwo · 10/03/2019 08:50

I agree with you about pink gin and lemonade though.

Backseatonthebus · 10/03/2019 09:28

Brockmans, which is my favourite. Love how smooth and citrusy it is. Other favourites are Monkey 47, Caorrun, The Botanist, Jawbox and The Lakes. Lidl Hortus Citrus Garden is a really nice cheap option and Aldi sometimes have a gin called Boyles which is also great.

Flavoured gins aren't for me. As for ones which didnt hit the mark, I really dont like Copper House, I wasn't keen on Cambridge gin either. Which is a shame as neither of them were cheap Grin

BlindAssassin1 · 10/03/2019 09:49

I had Rock Rose gin the other - only a minature though. It was beautiful and subtle and also nearly £40 a bottle which I couldn't justify at the moment.

I was given a bottle of Dartmoor beast gin last Christmas. It was strong and bloody lovely.

Martin Millers is my favourite non-flashy gin though. Dry and clean tasting. I don't get all the sweety pinky gins.

Lungelady · 10/03/2019 09:52

I have 13 bottles at the moment.
Currently enjoying
Dorothy Parker gin
York gin
Harewood gin
Gin Mare
I like fevertree light.

IndigoSpritz · 10/03/2019 09:56

I shall have to study the gin shelf in Booth's next time I'm there. I might see some of these weird and wonderful brands I've never heard of. And gasp at the price.
