What stupid thing do you keep doing?

I'll start. Despite putting moisturiser on my face every morning for the last 40 odd years, I constantly squeeze out too much, resulting in a face that makes my mascara run, or greasy hands from rubbing it into them to use the excess. What's yours?

Buying Easter Eggs. Every year l swear l'm not going to, and every year, l buy them. And eat them.

IdentifyasTired · 07/03/2019 19:16
  1. Worrying about what other people think. It's stupid because it is pointless and achieves nothing.
  2. Eating too much Nutella straight out of the jar and feeling queasy.

Other than that, I'm fairly sorted!

BrinkPink · 07/03/2019 19:31

Trying to get an early night and then its 1am and I'm googling "how tall was jesus?" or some such ridiculousness 🙄

OMG that's me as well! I bloody love the Web - not for Instagram or dating or anything normal, no it's because I can constantly look up answers to the random musings constantly dribbling around inside my head. I actually get into bed KNOWING I need to go straight to sleep because I'm getting up early, yet still think "ooh I'll just look up this that and the other that I was wondering about today" Hmm

Also - sticking pins and needles in myself, only been sewing for 40 years.

Cooking the wrong amount of pasta. How hard can it be? But i just can't be arsed to work out a sensible measuring/weighing system so I always guess.

Burning home made cakes and biscuits - kids exclaim with joy when they get non-burnt ones.

Saying yes to doing stuff and then having too much to do. Doh.

wanderings · 07/03/2019 22:02

Wearing trainers without socks. But they feel nice on my bare feet when I put them on! Not so nice if I spend the whole day in them.

safariboot · 07/03/2019 22:59

Putting things down and walking off wondering where they've gone.

This. So much this. Even if I put it down literally 2 minutes ago

ohtheholidays · 07/03/2019 23:28

Putting up with to much shit,I'm to old for it now yet I still take on lots of crap that I shouldn't!

Staying upto late and then feeling like shit the next day.

Putting stuff off for to long and then regretting it and running around like an idiot and feeling bad for not having done it sooner.

OutOntheTilez · 07/03/2019 23:32

Putting down my glasses case somewhere in the house and then forgetting where. Most of the time my glasses are in it. Sometimes they’re not and then that’s a whole different issue. I have the case. Yay! Now where are the glasses?

The case is black so it kind of blends in everywhere. Very nondescript. I thought putting my name on it with large colorful letter stickers would help, but it doesn’t really.

Also, being too lazy to use potholders to remove a hot dish or bowl from the microwave. Am bewildered when fingers get burned.

EstuaryBird · 07/03/2019 23:52

A PP mentioned wrong shoes for the weather.....that’s me every time.

Also going on a diet/going to join a gym/going to start a walking regime ‘tomorrow’.

Really pretty much everything everyone has said already.....especially the burning mouth on pizza thing! I’m

Eating the same, exercising the same, drinking the same amount of alcohol, yet standing on the scales each week with baited breath! Doh!!

wanderings · 08/03/2019 06:20

Not stretching after exercise, and then having the aches and stiffness the day after.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 08/03/2019 06:58

Giving too much headspace to people who wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire

Related to that, knowing I'm being used but being too nice to say anything/stop it. I'm working on both though

Believing myself when I say I'll do something later, getting to bedtime and having to add it to my 'to do list' on my phone then not being able to tick it off my to do list the next day either

Over committing myself, yes technically I CAN do all of those things, but I'm exhausted and stressed trying to do it. It's not even about not being able to say no, I think "that sounds nice, and we are free then" and don't think of the practicalities of it

NTMont · 08/03/2019 07:05

I keep picking the wrong men. Over, and over, and over, and over...

DuggeesWoggle · 08/03/2019 07:18

Drop something, bend down to pick it up, miss, stand up. Bend down again to pick it up, miss, stand up. Repeat several times.

I also knock over my glass of water in the night frequently but I couldn't put it in the bathroom, I get through loads in the night! Usually being up and down with DS (and now pregnancy wees).

Decide to crochet an elaborate gift for someone starting a week before their birthday/Christmas. Have to speed crochet to get it done. Give in at the last minute realising I am not going to finish it in time and buy a generic present at the supermarket instead.

ginghamtablecloths · 08/03/2019 12:36

Losing my mobile phone somewhere in the house and then having to ring it from the landline so that I can trace it from the ringtone, invariably finding it in a pocket.

Mum2OneTeen · 08/03/2019 12:40

Eating too much crap

HepzibahHumbug · 08/03/2019 12:54

Frantically searching for my phone while simultaneously chatting to some on it

overtheirishsea · 08/03/2019 13:33

Not putting things back where they live and subsequently not being able to find anything

Chocolateandabook2019 · 08/03/2019 13:40

Picking the dry skin under my nose.

(I’m sure people think I’m picking it, but I’m not, it’s the skin).

I end up irritating the dry skin just when it’s calming down, so it flares up again, and it becomes a vicious circle.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 08/03/2019 16:58

Ooh the glasses thing. I do that. Have slightly solved problem by having glasses by bed, and downstairs glasses. Glasses Direct (I think) 2 pairs for£20 on offer. Saves wear and tear on my head.

Burning my hands or fingers on the oven trays....every week I manage this !

TopBitch you can get silicone oven tray shields from hardware shops (or check online) to stop you injuring yourself like this. Out of interest, are you on the short side? I'm 5ft 3 and always find that built-in ovens are that little bit too high for comfort, so it could be a design issue.

IamFrauBlucher · 08/03/2019 17:37

Buying and eating MacDonalds.

I don't enjoy the taste of it. It doesn't satisfy me or fill me up I always feel guilty and sick after eating it.

birdling · 08/03/2019 18:06

Expecting my children to show a modicum of common sense.

Frlrlrubert · 08/03/2019 19:07

Going to bed early and then messing about on my phone until it's later than if I'd stayed up.

Picking spots.

Biting the inside of my lip.

Picking the skin around my nails.

Moisturiser: I put the excess on my elbows.

Nighttime water is in a bottle since the cat tipped it on the plug socket and shorted the entire house.

smurfy2015 · 08/03/2019 20:50

A couple of things as I recognise so many things from this list for myself but can't think of my own. but there are plenty im sure

For burned mouth esp roof - spoon of sugar on tongue and press tongue to the roof, it may need a couple of goes with sugar, hold it there till coated in sugar. It will give relief in less than a minute.

@itssquidstella - I keep a notebook in a safe place with passwords, etc, it's hidden in plain sight

@TopBitch - www.amazon.co.uk/Innovation-Silicone-Oven-Shelf-Shields/dp/B00JQ2WM0Y/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_tr_t_2?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforum-21&refRID=DTASGEHQPJWH17ZFTMYN covers the bit of rack that usually burns
