Got a new store opening very close by, so please give me your recommendations! I'm usually a Lidl shopper.

The Foodies Market brand peanut butter. 100% peanuts, just amazing. Also their gourmet crackers.

SoupDragon · 20/02/2019 17:53

Everyone's taste is different so you're best off just trying stuff and seeing what you like. These threads always have people saying A is gra at and people saying A is shit :)

That said, I think their Red Fox vintage Red Leicester is amazing.

I’m still discovering Aldi but so far recommend fruit and veg, ham with black pepper, face wipes, fresh pizzas, beetroot and mint dip (actually I think this is a summer only product) jelly beans, salt and vinegar Pringle type crisps, frozen cod and tuna fillets, pickled beetroot, natural fat free yoghurt, sparkling water with elderflower and if you happen to have kids that ride then the kids jodhpurs are fab!

NotMeNoNo · 20/02/2019 18:01

I'd say anything is worth a try. We are the opposite, got used to Aldi, now moved and Lidl is much closer.

Grapevine wine Chardonnay and Merlot are both lovely and less than £4 a bottle.

Toilet paper

sparklefarts · 20/02/2019 18:09

The frozen lemon basa fillets are YUM

Gin! £9.99 for an award-winning bottle is an absolute bargain. They have some great wines, too, at very good prices.

I love their vintage local cheese - Red Fox as @SoupDragon mentioned, but also their Scottish vintage cheddar.

Their specially selected range is good - haven't had anything from there that's been poor.

Ground coffee - a 200g bag is £1.99, compared with over £3 for a 227g bag in Sainsbury's. And it's really nice coffee.

All the fruit and veg we've had has been good.

No complaints so far!

Freemans bay white wine - Pinot Gris and Sauvignon blanc
Lacura moisturiser
Cheese

YouBoggleMyMind · 20/02/2019 18:52

Yes @sparklefarts I love the basa!

onlyhereforthefood · 20/02/2019 19:01

Their versions of hippeas and yushoi snacks
Sweet potato fries (fresh)
Their version of Azera coffee
Yoghurts, especially greek style
Deli meats etc
Pizza
Chocolate!

JDSTER · 20/02/2019 19:03

Wine- quite a few award winners
Free range chicken breast fillets
Fillet steak (the specially selected one)
Jars of peppers, artichokes etc in oil
Really nutty muesli
Cheese
Greek yoghurt
Dishwasher tabs
Washing up liquid
Rip off Jo Malone reed diffusers

Probably lots more but I can’t think of anything else at the minute. I certainly can’t do a whole shop there but call in every few weeks to buy the things I like.

dellabrew · 20/02/2019 19:11

Another vote here for the vintage red fox cheese :) Also a few of the ready to bake side dishes etc have been yum too. Have only just started going but been pleasantly surprised so far...love getting to the till and a giant trolley load is only £50 shock horror lol :) Like others have said cant do a whole shop there but its only top ups of specific things from other supermarkets.

starzig · 20/02/2019 19:14

Chocolate and seasoned salmon fillets.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/02/2019 19:16

Their lattice crisps are to die for.
Their ales are good in the main and DP loves one of their lagers
The tomato and roast pepper sauce for a quick meal

notacooldad · 20/02/2019 19:19

Chocolate and seasoned salmon fillets
That sounds such a bizarre combination!

borntobequiet · 20/02/2019 19:19

Very nice Cornish butter.

needsleepzzz · 20/02/2019 19:23

Specially selected curry sauce
Sourdough pizza
Filled pasta
Pasta sauce
Stackers
Chocolate, choceur and dairy fine
Wine
Cheese filled fish cake
Cheesy garlic bread
Rice cakes
Nappies
Wipes
Baby formula

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 20/02/2019 19:25

I think the fruit and veg is fine. Occasionally, there’s a mishap, but usually it’s as good as other supermarkets. Cox’s apples, easy peel oranges, pineapple, melon etc. Didn’t like a pomegranate I got, but I think it needed to be riper.

DorothyZbornak · 20/02/2019 19:57

Melt in the middle chocolate puddings - soooo tasty :D

confusednorthner · 20/02/2019 20:00

Pretty much everything but personal favs are giant caramel buttons and recently discovered the Irish style yogurts with fruit layer in bottom. Actually all the chilled puss are pretty good 😀

DorothyZbornak · 20/02/2019 20:04

@confusednorthner, chilled puss? Gives a whole new meaning to 'freezing the kitty' Grin

BlueMerchant · 20/02/2019 20:07

Cheese&Onion quiche
Chilled & Frozen Pizzas
Coleslaw

Personally dislike the baked beans, tin spaghetti and soups.

confusednorthner · 20/02/2019 20:09

Oh dear autocorrect stitched me up! Chilled puds, honestly no kittys harmed at all!

lizmum5 · 20/02/2019 20:19

I always used Tesco but I've reverted to Aldi now can get most things there, and have no complaints Smile
