Got a new store opening very close by, so please give me your recommendations! I'm usually a Lidl shopper.

What coffee are you buying? Their single country origin stuff is great - I think it's £1.99, which is so much cheaper than Sainsbury's, which is at least £3 for the equivalent.

Tavannach · 22/02/2019 22:57

It was the instant coffee that's a dupe for Azera. It was awful so I haven't tried any of their other coffees.

Meet0nTheledge · 22/02/2019 23:08

My rule of thumb is stick to fairly unprocessed stuff, so veg/salad/fruit, cheese, cooked meat and fish, ground coffee, olive oil, tinned tuna, all good, also things like flour and sugar, can't go wrong with those.

Cereals and biscuits are not good, also we've tried a few ready meal things and they've all been disappointing, the frozen pizzas were the worst we've ever had. Curry sauce in a jar was dreadful.

The washing powder is great as it has virtually no fragrance compared to big brands.

sushisuperstar · 23/02/2019 00:33

The stuffed pasta
Greek yoghurt
Their own brand shredded wheat / weetabix
Tinned carrots

small2018 · 23/02/2019 00:39

Dark choc with sea salt bars
Teddy faces crisps
Cajun chicken slices

small2018 · 23/02/2019 00:40

And their nappies!!

dontknowwhattodo80 · 23/02/2019 00:41

DS15 loves the chicken, bacon and sweet corn pasta ( usually by the sandwiches)

Chicken en croute
Chicken and leek gratin
Yorkshire pud with a roast dinner inside
Yogurts- I love the ones in the jar
Bread and butter pudding
Milkshake
Vanilla custard
Frozen apple strudel
Take away bars
Groovy bars
Cheap lemonade/orangeade
Dishwasher tablets
Lynx dupe shower gel
Flatbread freezer pizza

Chips/hash browns/ wedges are ok

Don't really rate their fruit and vegetables unless they're to be eaten within a day or two

Ofthread · 23/02/2019 00:47

Bad:
coffee
cat food
aisles of shite
cleaning stuff if you are fussy about smells
THE BREAD is AWFUL

Good:
dishwasher tablets (all in one)
Greek yoghurt
wine
iced buns
Puglian olive oil
veg
cheese

marmitedoughnut · 23/02/2019 07:00

Blue eggs.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 23/02/2019 07:35

Root vegetable crisps
Rosemary and sea salt crackers
Little packs of nuts/berries/seeds that you can keep in your handbag and neck if you get hangry
Part-baked rolls
Jars of antipasti
Flowers - the cheap roses last for ages

JRMisOdious · 23/02/2019 08:31

Their very thinly disguised version of tresemme shampoo, no difference whatsoever except price.

vampirethriller · 23/02/2019 12:55

Nappies
Lacura face cream
Chilled pizza

SheldonSaysSo · 23/02/2019 13:22

Any meat or fish is great. Also, baking ingredients and store cupboard stuff (pasta sauce, tinned sweetcorn, tuna, micro rice, herbs/spices, mayo/ketchup).

Chelseajunior · 23/02/2019 13:30

Nappies
Baby wipes
Chicken pie (orange box)
Vintage cheese

Onetwopyjamacrews · 23/02/2019 14:27

Jive bars (twix knock offs) nicer than twix smaller so only 198 cals per pack
Filled pasta feeds 2 for £1.15
Frozen fish fingers
Columbian coffee granuels 1.89
Bloomer bread bloody gorgeous for £1
Blueberries kids go through about 4 packs a week but £1.19 for 200g pack (strawberries are rubbish go mouldy real quick)
Corned beef bakes 99p for 2 YUM!!
All their crisp knock offs are good
2 medallion steaks for £1.89 so nice barely any fat (might have to search through them and cut the edges off) and feeds 2 or 1 greedy person for less than £2 can’t get my head around how cheap they are

Alicatz66 · 24/02/2019 18:52

I second the little packs of nuts and seeds ! The ones by the till .. I always cart them around in my handbag for hanger moments

Mmmhmmokdear · 24/02/2019 19:46

The Isey Skyr in pots by the sandwiches is amazing.
Hike bars are lovely.
The Fairtrade instant coffee is very nice, comparable to Douwe Egberts.
Their knock off muller lights and frubes are good.
Cocktail sausages.
Scottish rough oatcakes.
Dairyfine chocolate buttons are the business.

Mmmhmmokdear · 24/02/2019 19:47

Lacura day & night cream and the eye cream is really good. I buy it by choice now.

JRMisOdious · 24/02/2019 19:49

Yes the chocolate buttons: all of their chocolate is excellent actually, especially the higher cocoa content ones.

Mmmhmmokdear · 24/02/2019 19:51

How could I forget - the one, the only CRUNCHY CHEDDAR. It's the mutts nutts.

SingleMumFighting · 24/02/2019 19:54

Foodie market range with no nasties and often are organic wholefoods

Organic crispbreads
Paleo bars
Honey
Maple syrup
Cold pressed rapeseed oil
Organic coconut oil
Organic apple cider vinegar

JRMisOdious · 24/02/2019 19:56

Couldn’t agree more, the crunchy cheddar is beautiful.
mutts nutts what a delightful alternative. You are indeed a lay-dee 😁

SingleMumFighting · 24/02/2019 19:56

Tins of mixed beans in water.

JRMisOdious · 24/02/2019 19:57

(Immediately realised as soon as I pressed post. You may equally well be a man.
Forgive me, I am old.)

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 24/02/2019 20:31

The decadent hot chocolate- in a tin with a gold lid - is to die for.

Mature cheddar and cottage cheese.

Their frozen mash, frozen baked potatoes and steak cut oven chips are excellent.

Pizzas. Four cheese have been 67p for a few weeks now.

Cooked roast chicken.

The mini 'magnums' ice creams.

All their cakes and bread. In particular the Apple pies.

Baked beans

The more expensive passatta. The basil version is delicious and I use it on its own as Bolognese sauce and as pizza topping.

Curry sauces with powder in the lids.

The £9.99 gin and the own brand Pimms (Pitchers?)
