I love a musical.

Seen most but saw Book of Mormon last night, good lord it's amazing!
So funny, so inappropriate, so non pc.

What's your favourite?

Hamilton
Book of mormon
Wicked

PatriciaHolm · 31/01/2019 17:52

Yep, mormon is great.

Hamilton too, totally worth the hype.

Hadestown was amazing, but it's gone to NY now...

PatriciaHolm · 31/01/2019 17:52

Oh and Follies - coming back to the National now.

Some of my favourites:

Godspell
Calamity Jane
Joseph and the etc
Hairspray

Alltheprettyseahorses · 31/01/2019 17:57

I really like Shrek and Billy Elliot. I wasn't that keen on Wicked except for the One Short Day in the Emerald City song and Defying Gravity was spectacular tbf.

Doilooklikeatourist · 31/01/2019 17:57

Les Mis
West Side Story

Thought Hamilton was nowhere near as good as it should have been

DD has seen Waitress and Book of Mormon ( she didn’t know whether to laugh or not as it was so inappropriate.. you wouldn’t like it Mum )

BellMcEnd · 31/01/2019 17:59

Rocky Horror. Absolutely brilliant

StoorieHoose · 31/01/2019 18:00

We had a flying trip to London in the summer and saw the Hamilton matinee and Heathers at night.

Both were fabulous!

Have booked to see Matilda and Jamie is touring next year so will go see that

Would love to see Be More Chill - “Michael in the bathroom” may be one of my favourite songs ever!

babyinthacorner · 31/01/2019 20:14

The Last 5 Years.

Hamilton - even though I haven’t seen it yet. I have tickets and I’m ridiculously excited.

Ratatouille76 · 31/01/2019 20:17

Matilda is really good apart from the annoying librarian bits but the songs are great. I love Wicked and Les Mis. Really want to see Hamilton.

BlessThisMess · 31/01/2019 20:19

Love Matilda - seen it 4 times!

Oldies - I love West Side Story and Evita
Was hugely disappointed in Billy Elliot for my 50th birthday

Seeing Hamilton in April!

BartonHollow · 31/01/2019 20:20

Yes @Ratatouille76 exactly !

The librarian sections are overlong and drag

The reality of it is there are 2 great pieces in it

We Are Revolting and When I Grow Up and the rest is a bit meh.

dementedma · 31/01/2019 20:21

jesus christ superstar
les Mis
Little Shop of Horrors
Enjoyed Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Ds is really into musicals and is off to see American Idiot next week.

MissMacaron · 31/01/2019 20:25

Saw Heathers towards the end of its run and it was one of the best things I’ve seen for years. I loved it so much, brilliant music, great cast and I was left with a talent crush on Carrie Hope Fletcher.

Have booked to see Waitress and am very excited about that. Other favourites are Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story and Wicked. Saw Hamilton recently and was a bit underwhelmed. Definitely overhyped for me.

MissMacaron · 31/01/2019 20:26

Also love Joseph although it’s admittedly cheesy!

Calzone · 31/01/2019 20:29

Les Miserables.....seen it live 19 times.
Miss Saigon .....seen it 8 times
Sunset Boulevard is amazing

Joseph
Hamilton is very different. You really need to know the music before you go.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 31/01/2019 20:30

Moulin Rouge
Les Misrables
Cats

fartingsparkles · 31/01/2019 20:30

Theatre wise i love Legally Blonde, We Will Rock You, Joseph and Aladdin.

On film Guys and Dolls, The Pakama Game, Oklahoma and Singing in the Rain

Petalflowers · 31/01/2019 20:31

From the older musicals, love Blood Brothers and Fiddler on the roof. Also Guys and Dolls.

Favourite ever live production was Barnum with Michael Crawford (the 80s version, not Greatest showman version).

We saw Memphis with Matt Cardle which was also superb, and loved Mamma Mia also.

Watched Oklahoma on tv fairly recently and really enjoyed that.

fartingsparkles · 31/01/2019 20:33

I forgot to say that American Idiot is fantastic! I would love to see it again.

I am really hoping i get to see Lion King soon (its touring shortly)

BartonHollow · 31/01/2019 20:36

Yes I would agree that with Hamilton, I had listened to the soundtrack so many times and it has such depth, but going to the show cold and lacking in knowledge about the War Of Independence and birth of America , it's easy to get lost in an avalanche of words

HoppyHop · 31/01/2019 20:36

Billy Elliot
Kinky Boots
Cats

Couldn't stand Phantom but I was young when I saw it so perhaps should go again!

MrsJamin · 31/01/2019 20:38

Hamilton hamilton and again Hamilton. Saw it last April and it was my most listened album by far of 2018. At any given time I normally have a lyric going round my head. I saw a t shirt that said "My thoughts have been replaced by Hamilton lyrics" and I just laughed out loud as it was so ridiculously true! It's worth it. Just go. If you live near London you can enter the lottery for the next day for £10 via the Hamilton app.
