Any other Diet Coke addicts?

hidinginthenightgarden · 07/01/2019 21:58

I worked out today that I drink around 150 litres of Diet Coke a day. Around 10 cans a week. Sometimes I drink more than that. It’s awful! I don’t drink tea or coffee though and don’t like drinking cordial all the time.
It’s a depressing realisation.
How much do you drink?
Any ideas for cutting down?

That should say 150 litres a year!!!

150 litres a DAY!!
You do have a problem and should seek medical advice before you drown.
I feel much better about my 2 or 3 per day Coke Zero habit!

EdWinchester · 07/01/2019 22:01

I am addicted to pepsi max.

I have only had one today, but it's often 3.

150 litres per year is only 410ml per day - or about 1.3 cans.

That's honestly not all that bad, considering. I'm sure there's loads of people out there who drink a crapton more tea and coffee combined, or Monster or whatever.

I'm in the same boat, I probably average about 4 litres per week averaged across a few years, although sometimes I'll go a long time without it, and then other times there's weeks when I drink a 2l bottle every day...

The way I see it is I'm not smoking, not eating crap food, and not drinking alcohol. We've all got to die of something, and it may as well be phenylalanine induced cancer....

FenellasRedVelvetDress · 07/01/2019 22:04

Oh. I drink double what you do.
And I drink tea and coffee but I am pretty much tee total.
I do drink lime or cranberry cordial and water.
But I really love my Coke Zero ...........I can cut it down to one can a day and if we go to stay with family I don’t have any so I can do without it.
I just like it sooooooooo much.
Is it really bad for you do you think????

Hopskipjumping · 07/01/2019 22:05

Do you get withdrawal symptoms if you go without it?

Im not addicted to Diet Coke but can easily have 4-5 teas a day. I don’t get withdrawal symptoms if I don’t have it however so not sure I would say I’m addicted. I just enjoy it.

Klobluchar · 07/01/2019 22:08

I love Diet Coke. I try not to buy it to have at home because I will just drink it, regardless of whether I am thirsty or not. I do buy them from time to time and just guzzle all of it and enjoy it. It’s about £2.50 for 12 cans here.

Someone will be along in a minute to say how bad it is for us but I really don’t care. I can’t have sugary drinks and I don’t drink alcohol so I’ll let myself have this little indulgence

gt84 · 07/01/2019 22:09

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️ I am.
I drink 500ml-1 litre everyday and have found if I don’t have it for a few days I get headaches. I’m sure I’m addicted.
Not sure how to stop, don’t really want to

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2019 22:10

Yes. I’ve started writing down how much it’s costing me every time I buy any and that’s shaming me out of it

Paddy1234 · 07/01/2019 22:12

This is so relevant to me.
Made a conscious decision this week not to buy any as worried about DS drinking too much as well.
Luckily we both have swapped to water but am peeing sooo much now.
Wondering when the headaches are going to appear as I am sure they will.

hidinginthenightgarden · 07/01/2019 22:13

Red velvet that was a typo correct underneath!

Hop skip jump I feel a bit groggy until I have it and when I don’t have access to it I constantly think about how I could get some. I have a rule that I can’t drink it before 10am and no more than 2 cans a day, I’m a bid to reduce it but I still drink a lot. Weekends not so much as ds always asks for it and it is hard to explain why I drink so much of it and tell him it’s too bad for him to drink!

Datedandold · 07/01/2019 22:14

You’re all lightweights, I’m not telling you how many cans a day I drink...

hidinginthenightgarden · 07/01/2019 22:15

Dated and old please do!

OP posts:
ArtificialArctophile · 07/01/2019 22:21

@Datedandold I'm not telling either! 😱 it's my guilty little secret

TitsNnails · 08/01/2019 00:20

I was on A couple of litres per day. Would get anxious if I didn't have any. Ended up going cold turkey as I had awful spots on my face, irratable bladder and palpitations.
Just over 3 years clean, I still crave it, but I tasted it a while ago and it's vile so I don't actually want it.

BFGgirl · 08/01/2019 00:24

Addicted here too Blush I am so relieved to hear someone else say when they don’t have access to it they think about how they could get some. I also don’t drink tea or coffee, and alcohol only on special occasions, don’t smoke either so I feel like it’s my main vice

mommathatwearspink · 08/01/2019 00:30

I’m also addicted and it’s no secret... I drink anything up to 6 cans a day. Sometimes more Blush
I recently went to Center Parcs and went to the market to buy some and they don’t sell it... ANYWHERE ShockShockShock not even on tap in the restaurants/bars. It was all Pepsi (which I hate!). I strongly considered driving home!!! I did however make it through the week (the gin helped!).. only to make up for it when I got home Grin

DarklyDreamingDexter · 08/01/2019 01:08

Guilty as charged. Adult DCs also Coke Zero/Pepsi Max addicts. None of us drink alcohol or smoke, so it's our main vice. Not good through. Need to cut down in 2019.

AntiHop · 08/01/2019 01:12

I used to be addicted. Drank it every day. One day I went cold turkey. After a week or so I allowed myself one and I found it tasted disgusting. It was liked my taste buds flipped. Never drank it again.

Dhalandchips · 08/01/2019 01:14

I went cold turkey a couple of years ago but was drinking a couple of lites a day. Apparently it leeches calcium from your bones...Shock

pineapplebryanbrown · 08/01/2019 01:19

I get through 2 litres of caffeine free diet coke every day. I have 2 coffees in the morning but no other caffeine. I think the addiction started when I gave up booze. I get really panicked if i go on holiday and am likely to check TripAdvisor re supermarkets and cfdc before I go.

loobylou1967 · 08/01/2019 01:30

Another total addict here - until last week was drinking at least 4 litres a day ( and frighteningly 10x what OP considers an addiction Shock.)
Live in a pub so have easy access 24/7 and don't drink tea, coffee or alcohol. Just had routine blood pressure check which after being scarily high was monitored 24hours and still high. GP says I need to cut it out completely and drink only water Sad. So far I have probably halved my consumption but still a fair way to go yet. When I've tried to give it up before, I had terrible caffeine-withdrawal headaches but they go after a few days. Definitely need to stop though as blood pressure is already down considerably after just 8 days and I check it twice a day.

FeralBeryl · 08/01/2019 01:37

Another one not revealing my vast consumption figures Grin I will admit to it being over 2l a day. It's my only vice, I drink lots of water, tea, juice too but aware that my perfect teeth will all rot and my stomach may fall off one day in Tesco etc.

pineapplebryanbrown · 08/01/2019 01:51

It's an odd addiction isn't it? Are any of you prone to cross addiction (i am). I know if i gave up cfdc next week it would be cheese straws or something. Also have a more minor problem with chewing gum too.

User758172 · 08/01/2019 02:12

Guilty. I drink six cans a day, sometimes more... it is an addiction, I get headaches when I stop drinking it and even get panicky when I don’t have any in the house Blush

But I must stop. It’s costing me a fortune, never mind the damage I’m doing to my bones.

I smoke as well unfortunately. Don’t know what to give up first. Both seem equally hard Sad
