Any other Diet Coke addicts?

hidinginthenightgarden · 07/01/2019 21:58

I worked out today that I drink around 150 litres of Diet Coke a day. Around 10 cans a week. Sometimes I drink more than that. It’s awful! I don’t drink tea or coffee though and don’t like drinking cordial all the time.
It’s a depressing realisation.
How much do you drink?
Any ideas for cutting down?

I love the fact that people are drinking 2-4 cans a day and consider themselves addicts. Arrrrgh I wish I could get down to that. Totally agree on Center Parcs - I have to bring loads in the car.

Pepsi Max here!! But it’s so expensive for how much I drink. Easily 2ltrs a day! So I’ve swapped to Aldi and I don’t drink half as much, but it does give me a headache 😩

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 08/01/2019 09:32

Funny thing is, my D.C. (11&9) aren’t allowed fizzy and don’t like it!

I was easily drinking a big bottle of Pepsi Max cherry every day. I gave up about 2 years ago. I'll still have diet pepsi very occasionally (few time a year), but it's more to vary drinks when I'm out than a habit.

I've had to give up alcohol so still have the odd diet drink in place of wine. I don't buy it at home. I will have diet Lilt (or the Aldi generic one which is nicer I hope), diet Dr Pepper or lemon Pellegrino on a Friday night (just one). I drink soda water with lemon / lime slices and ice cubes made out of lemon and lime juice. I get lots of different cordials and have it very dilute. I also drink at least 2 litres of tap water everyday. I could have swapped cola for coffee so have one coffee first thing. I also drink tea, green tea or currently cherry Bakewell green tea. I don't have the same drink twice, more to avoid boredom.

If you don't buy it, you can't drink it.

I love diet coke, it's been my addiction for years. At its worst I was easily drinking 2l a day, I would carry one of the big bottles around with me at all times. I tried to go cold turkey once but the headache was horrendous. I cut down just before Christmas to buying two 2l bottles a week, I now allow myself one glass with my evening meal, squash the rest of the time, gradually cutting down the amount of squash I add to get as close to plain water as possible (I hate plain water. Don't drink coffee or alcohol and have to be in the mood for tea which doesn't happen often). Over Christmas I slipped back a bit and went from two bottles back to four, still better than originally but not great, and have seen my skin get so bad, headaches all the time, groggy and miserable. Still look forward to my one glass though.

Yes I am quite famous for it. In fact my therapist often asks how many cans of diet coke I have drank on a stressful day. My friends often check I have enough cans to last me.

I dont smoke, drink alcohol or anything like that. I know its terrible for you but, its so good lol.

darkriver198868 · 08/01/2019 10:01

I go through about 36 cans a week.

naturistmum · 08/01/2019 10:13

My DH is terrible - about 10 cans of DC a day I'd say. Our weekly recycling is shameful (a box filled with empty coke cans). He doesn't like drinking a glass of it from a bottle (its a lot cheaper). I always know where the best offers are!

Now my DS is always asking for it and I don't let him have it from tea time onwards (I use the caffeine excuse) so its mostly weekends but I don't like him drinking it.

hidinginthenightgarden · 08/01/2019 10:23

I don’t think the amount you drink determines the addiction, it is whether or not you struggle to limit it or crave it etc. I only have 2 a day because I am very strict with myself. We bought a 2l bottle at Xmas and put it in the fridge. I drank it in about 4 days. I was trying really hard not to as well!

Yes it's really really addictive stuff. I was on about 3 cans per day at my worst. Off it completely now - i weaned myself off with fizzy water - that's what I found myself craving was the fizz!!!! If I have a coke now it's always a normal one and because they are very sweet one is always enough!

Good luck :)

DerelictWreck · 08/01/2019 10:36

There's a thread on here at the moment from a poster who has realized her teeth have now gone seethrough from her diet coke consumption. That's it now, irreversible damage and she's just wishing she had stopped earlier Sad

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 08/01/2019 12:59

I always hated the stuff, joined slimming world and now addicted to Diet Coke and Pepsi max.
I was going through 4 cans a day when I started but am down to one/ two a day now.
It's always something, I was addicted to normal Coke but managed on one can a day. I don't know which is worse tbh!

BluebellsareBlue · 08/01/2019 13:03

I'm ashamed to admit I drink between 6-10 cans a day

puppymouse · 08/01/2019 13:29

I drink at least one, usually two of the 500ml bottles a day. I don't smoke and rarely drink alcohol. No tea or coffee either so it's my main vice, along with a ridiculous sugar obsession (chicken and egg I suspect).

I know I should cut back. But I hate denying myself anything. Sad

MaMisled · 08/01/2019 13:44

During the week, i have a can of Pepsi max every lunchtime and a sainsburys diet cola every teatime. At the weekend I go crazy and have 2 litres of Mango Diet Coke! I didn't enjoy fizzy drinks until embarking on a weight loss journey. Now it fulfils the need to put something in my mouth!

U2HasTheEdge · 08/01/2019 17:27

As for teeth, im 37 and never had a filling.

Long may it continue. I know this addiction has to catch up with me somehow, one day.

Heatherjayne1972 · 08/01/2019 17:31

It’s awful for your teeth tho
The carbonating process to make it fizzy reduces the ph to around 2
That’s not much different to battery acid
It dissolves your teeth from the outside in. Making them weak easily breakable and very sensitive
Sorry but I see it all the time

ScottyTeapot · 08/01/2019 17:37

No-one has ever died through Diet Coke ingestion, surely?

Also, if you brush your teeth 2 or 3 times a day, you'll be grand.

Can't understand what the worry is...

Have just pulled up to the supermarket to but the 30 can pack that's on offer

ScottyTeapot · 08/01/2019 17:38

*buy.

LashesZ · 08/01/2019 17:47

I was addicted for years. I drank about 2.5 litres every two days and ordered a full fat coke with everything. Was admitted to hospital with a postpartum infection which cause my heart rate to sky rocket, so they banned me of all caffeine. Had to go 9 weeks cold turkey and when I taste it now it tastes absolutely gross. Except for McDonalds coke, that is magical.

dangermouseisace · 08/01/2019 17:47

I buy the no caffeine ones if I can as that seems to temper my addiction, whilst satisfying the craving. It’s about the only no caffeine version of anything that tastes good!

AlaskanOilBaron · 08/01/2019 17:50

Addicted. I drink about 10 cans a day, or the equivalent thereof - I got a SodaStream and buy the syrup on Amazon.

On the back of my SodaStream purchase... I now drink Robinsons Squash'd in Summer Fruits with carbonated water quite a bit as well.

My dentist monitors my enamel very closely, she's aware of my habit and has managed to remain non-judgemental.

BrendasUmbrella · 08/01/2019 18:06

Whenever I stop drinking it I get a monster headache. So I just don't stop Grin
