Why the fuck has it taken 18 hours to decide to shoot the fucking thing down?

Well, SIL got here.... hours later than planned and at the opposite end of the country. Fortunately, they put her and her family in a taxi straight to their destination

Strange isn't it - if it IS in fact environmentalist protestors - that the outcome isn't going to have a great effect on the environment with the other methods of transport being implemented to solve it

They're not your everyday drones that people get for Xmas.. it's a carefully planned attack with software that has overridden what drones normally have installed to not allow them near airfield space. How do they know they're not also explosive?

There's also more than one of them - shoot one and the next would just appear, better to try and find the absolute cretins who are doing it and ruining people's Christmas'.

Given today is the anniversary of Lockerbie, I thought it was really poor of the SNP MP Pete Wishart to tweet moaning about having his travel arrangements being disrupted. Anything for a cheap swipe!

I think they're taking off again?

They showed on the news last a hawk taking out a drone. Why have they not found someone with such a bird to do just this? It seems farcical they seem powerless to stop all this chaos.

The hawks require special training and are no longer used. Also they had a tendency to get distracted which means you then have a drone and a hawk on the loose...

My feeling is the drones stopped because of the weather. Now the wind has died down, it’s back.

This guy is well known on YouTube for making and reviewing drones - he says that it'd be simple to use another drone to knock the Gatwick drone out of the sky. This is safer than shooting it as bullets shot up fall very fast and can kill people if they land on them. Worth watching for the perspective of someone who knows drones well.

News says a man and woman arrested.

Various news outlets are saying that the man has an alibi (his boss apparently says he was at work). Mind you that’s up to the police to investigate but it does seem unfair that these people’s names and photos are in the paper when they haven’t actually been charged with anything (let alone convicted).

What’s her alibi?

They didn’t say she had one. They’re reporting that the man has one.

Neither of them fit the profiling that has been mentioned of PhD in engineering or eco warrior. Apparently according to SM he was interviewed by the press in a lane and told the press he was trying to bring down the drone. It's all very strange and terrible the press are sharing their names and photos at such an early stage.

He does have a 25y old son on schooo holidays though .... hope it wasnt him for his sake.
