I can't work out what happend between the woman who worked in the same office as the office tart and the guy she was in love with for 2 years so many hours and 30 minutes. It's the American/Canadian women with the brother in hospital. Did we know if her and her guy got together properly?

It's an absolutely dreadful film full of awful characters and vile behaviour.

About the only believable bit is the lecherous American president.

That said, I watch it every Christmas. Xmas Smile

RedForShort · 15/12/2018 19:09

The old rocker's manager's body is commented on frequently. About beung fat. The Portuguese sister's body is also commented on. Though again about being fat.

I am shocked at everyone’s opinions on this thread. I always watch it and think Karl is an arse for walking out because she was calling her brother. I don’t think she is a bad person for looking after her brother, just she is living the life she has got and is a lovely caring person. And if he was worth being with they would talk and he would be understanding and caring about her brother and love her more for it.

Emma Thompson breaks my heart. It is one of The saddest film scenes ever.

The boy that plays Liam Neilsons son and Hugh Grant are real life cousins. Trivia fact.

OlennasWimple · 15/12/2018 20:01

Liam Neeson's step-son and Emma Thompson's kids go to the same school - so I've always assumed that Emma was good friends with Liam's recently deceased wife.

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 20:41

Liam Neeson has a step-son? I did not know that.

Liam's recently deceased wife.

Not that recent. She's been dead 9 years, sadly.

hopefullybettersoon · 15/12/2018 20:42

I think pp is talking about Liam's character in the film

SylviaAndSydney · 15/12/2018 20:49

Karl also played King Xerxes in 300. He was lovely in Love Actually, not so much in 300.

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 20:50

Ah OK! I've tried to erase that film from my memory, it's just that some of the more awful bits stick in my head like an earworm!

keepingmypeaches · 15/12/2018 20:58

About the only believable bit is the lecherous American president.

I think the current thread running, titled 'Christmas party cheats', proves otherwise Blush

namechangefriday · 15/12/2018 21:03

Didn’t they do a ‘sequel’ for children in need this year or last year that tied up a lot of the loose ends ?

8DaysAWeek · 15/12/2018 21:17

I think Emma is supposed to be Liam's friend actually?

byronicheroine · 15/12/2018 21:31

Emma and Liam are definitely brother and sister

Clawdy · 15/12/2018 21:35

No, Emma is Hugh Grant's sister in the film. Liam is her old friend.

byronicheroine · 15/12/2018 21:38

You are absolutely right!!

YouSmellOfBeefAndCheese · 15/12/2018 21:51

I am watching this now. I love it Blush

bsc · 15/12/2018 22:34

ET's character was the best friend of LN's character's dead wife Joanna.

alltoomuchrightnow · 16/12/2018 21:16

Was the wife called Joanna?
As well as Olivia Olsen's character?

notapizzaeater · 16/12/2018 21:23

Ooh, I watched this this week with a live orchestra in front of the screen playing, was very very good,

bsc · 17/12/2018 16:38

Yes alltoomuch they make reference to it in the film.

alltoomuchrightnow · 17/12/2018 23:11

Karl had a small part in Lost (quickly killed off) and is in the dreadful 'I love to dance' Nicole advert

SeaWitchly · 17/12/2018 23:54

The only reason people think the ET scene is so good is due to the rest of it being so overwhelmingly crap.
LA is a steaming dog turd wrapped in sparkly paper and a big fat ribbon.
You need either a lobotomy or a shit ton of Baileys to get through it unscathed without your critical faculties kicking in with WTF and your toes permanently crippled from the cringing toe curling.

alltoomuchrightnow · 18/12/2018 00:52

CF is gorgeous as always, that's my favourite story
Andrew Lincoln character is a psycho albeit a nice one. I find that whole storyline massively annoying.
Laura Linney character... As if you'd choose the brother over Karl...
Martin Freeman and Joanna Page are not very believable (Is MF anyone's idea of a porn /adult actor?)
Don't like all the fat references. MM has a wonderful slim figure in that film anyway. (and who actually says 'piss it!" ??)
Hugh Grant is annoying
Liam Neeson character moves on far too soon. His stepson doesn't seem to upset by losing his mum either
Kris Marshall storyline is funny
Rowan Atkinson annoying but then I hate Mr Bean so....
Emma Thompson.. painful to watch, heartbreaking. Alan Rickman, what a cnut but still so bloody sexy

BaconAndAvocado · 18/12/2018 08:29

SeaWitchly Grin Grin

It must be a barrel of laughs at yours at Christmas!

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 18/12/2018 08:43

Actually the thing that I find a bit icky about the film is that Keira Knightly would have been probably just 18 when filming (possibly even under 18 if they were filming before March 2003), and I know that's the actor not the character, but she was playing someone getting married and being lusted after and those actors were 26 and 30 at the time... always made me wonder why they couldn't have cast someone closer to their ages...
