Have you ever gone off a celebrity because of something they've done?

I used to really like Ewan McGregor until he had an affair.

Same with Robson Green in the 90s.

I loved Michael Moriarty (still do) but he's become a huge loony and an old soak.

Liked Ant McPartlin before the drink driving and infidelity.

Have you ever liked a celeb and then gone off them because of something they've said or done? Does it just prove that celebs are human like the rest of us?

@UpstartCrow

They both come across a bit Short Man Syndrome, like they don't feel they've ever had the recognition that's their due and even with the fame they have, it hasn't filled the void in their ego and they are both just permanently irate without quite knowing why

louderthan · 19/11/2018 01:11

Joanna Lumley and Helen Mirren: rape apologism
Jeremy Irons: stupid comment about the legalisation of gay marriage leading to 'people marrying animals'
Richard Dawkins: various narrow minded comments about Muslim women

louderthan · 19/11/2018 01:13

Anyone who turns out to be a tax dodger
Anyone who turns out to be a Scientologist

Sorry, just seen this last bit even though been chipping in with mine.
Course it bloody does, people in the public eye are human too.
We're all people.
We don't KNOW them even if media tries to paint a picture of that we do.

Rio Ferdinand - I quite admired him after seeing a programme where he cried about his wife’s death and talked about bringing up their three children alone. Then I saw the court case where he admitted to cheating on his poor wife with at least ten women! What a bastard.

I don't know much about Rio ferdinand but I thought I read something about him fully owning up to the cheating and acknowledging that it was shitty behaviour which he hugely regrets.

Alexander skarsgard. Had such a crush on him in true blood. Then he started with the contract girlfriends and he is best mates with disgusting sexual assaulter Terry Richardson. Now I just think he is creepy too. Theres something not right about him

jesuispissedoff · 19/11/2018 02:11

Amanda Holden for cheating on Les Dennis.

Graphista · 19/11/2018 02:25

Bathfullofeels - not unusual my ex has done same - wife 2 looks, sounds and thinks like me (politics, likes and dislikes not pursuing married men). It is fucking weird to experience from my side though!

"Woody Allen when I heard about him having naked photos of his adopted daughter..." That's the least of it with that creep!

Mummymum - seedy maybe but not hurting anyone or preying on the vulnerable which many of these are. I'm a huge George fan and always will be. Personally I suspect he was undx bipolar disorder which can include hypersexualised risky behaviour. He recognised his depressive points but I think he was in denial about manic stages.

"In the interests of accuracy, Soon-Yi wasn’t Woody Allen’s adopted daughter - that would have been actually illegal. She was his long term partner’s adopted daughter. Still creepy AF, but not legally incest." Soon yi also least of it. He (allegedly) also sexually assaulted Dylan who he pushed to adopt and she was 7 at the time! And it very much looks like he bought the testimony/cover up of those who were supposed to investigate the matter. Certainly a judge in a custody hearing wasn't convinced! Vile creep of a man!

Many of these I never liked and when the revelations came out I wasn't particularly surprised.

Johnny depp I was not a particular fan but liked him well enough but as soon as the allegations came out I believed her. Iirc (not sure if I was lurking or posting at this point) there were a shocking number of mners who supported him and accused her of all sorts! So much for #webelieveyou - some of the posts that were left standing were appalling.

Kevin spacey I had liked until (this one will be unexpected) he did American beauty. I've never seen it and I won't be watching it. From the little I do know of this "film" it basically excuses and defends predatory sexual thoughts of a much older man toward a teenage girl. Should never have been made in my opinion (Annette bening went way down in my estimation as a result too) I think many were fairly sure he was gay even though he never stated as much. But as both a csa survivor AND a bisexual woman his decision to try and conflate being gay with being a paedophile really pissed me off! Gay people have fought for CENTURIES against that myth and he just blithely used it to try and get away with vile behaviour. Awful man!

"Guy Pearce 'I never want kids' then cheats on his wife when she's 48 and gets the other gal pregnant. Now he's Mr Family Man." Ugh yes - he was always a bit of an up himself twat though.

Flutternotsoshy - there's worse about Jim Carrey, the ex husband & mother of his gf that died consider him at least partly responsible for her death. He's also an anti-vaxxer who's still propounding the Wakefield mmr/autism bollocks!

Celebs just being human - cheating, being a bit lairy when drunk, ill judged throwaway comments (as long as not -ist), weird behaviour due to mh issues

Celebs being dicks who deserve to be stripped of celeb status - criminal behaviour especially when it involves harming another and particularly when clearly pre-meditated and they're unapologetic. And I include tax dodging in that.

Bob Saget from Full House.
When on set he immitated sex acts with the doll used to replace the youngest actress. The monitors were on and they saw it. Also when his daughter was born he was holding her and some one said how beautiful she was so he replied for a dollar you can finger her. Years later when being told it was not appropriate he said 'youre right shes worth five dollars.
The guy who played Joey was dateing Allanis Morrisett when she was 14. Hes 15 years older than her.

Choccywoccyhooha · 19/11/2018 03:11

Johnny Depp - so many amazing films from the 90s that I can never watch again without getting the utter rage.

Kylie Minogue. I loved her for years, saw her in concert loads, but then she went on The Voice and revealed that when she is just being Kylie and not singing, she is a total simpering, giggly, hair-flicking dick who does that "oh I'm so dumb coz I'm a girl," thing. What a massive knobber you are Kylie.

Bimwit · 19/11/2018 03:35

I can add bonneville and owen wilson to the list Envy (not envy)

Billy connolly - read his and his wife's autobiographies and felt he'd gone very hollywood dahling and forgotten his roots.

Ditto pegg and i do agree freeman's going down the same route.

Used to find izzard's stand up hilair, but saw him behaving like a complete dick in a politics thing. Now i just think he's stupid and hysterical. Similar thing with russell brand when he went political.

Justin wossname the comedian who turned out to be horrible :(

Johnny depp - yuck. Used to fancy him but no more. Used to fancy benedict cumberbatch but he seems increasingly up himself as time goes by. I think he's lost any kind of humility and now i find him nauseating to listen to.

Never liked wahlberg but...how does he have a career? He's not even anything special.

TheHulksPurplePanties · 19/11/2018 04:16

Tom Cruise. The man is reportedly the second most powerful figure in Scientology, a cult that's been accused of huge breeches of human rights, abuse and covering up rape. I can't get myself too worked up about celebs cheating on spouses in the face of that.

AngeloMysterioso · 19/11/2018 04:34

I can’t hate Johnny Depp, I’ve met him quite a few times through my volunteering role and each time he’s been an absolute sweetheart. Course, he’s also been sober every time too. Apparently he was mostly on the straight and narrow whilst he was with Vanessa Paradis but Amber Heard got him back on the hard stuff.

AngeloMysterioso · 19/11/2018 04:38

Didn’t Rio cheat on his wife with that TOWIE chick he’s now engaged to?

DeltaG · 19/11/2018 05:44

@JessicaPeach

Paloma Faith went up in my expectations for exactly the same reason!

LaDaronne · 19/11/2018 06:47

ONn David Tennant, it's because I'm about his age and teach people the age his wife was when they got together. Seeing them as sexual beings just makes me shudder. Meh, I don't see why that's less judgeworthy than someone giving a cat back to an animal shelter or making a crass joke.

longwayoff · 19/11/2018 07:02

Am I wrong or was Georgia Moffat a mid twenties mother of a 7 year old when she and Tennant got together? Im missing something, more info please.

Dowser · 19/11/2018 07:05

Gary lineker...I used to think he was the dogs bollocks..but the way he goes through women...maybe it’s just me getting old

Anyone who has taken out a super injunction to hide their dodgy behaviour

Simon Cowell...I thought he was a breath of fresh air when he hit our screens...but can’t watch him now
Heard the story about Hugh bonneville

Any celebrity who boosts their nice guy image...but their real them is a right twat

RJnomore1 · 19/11/2018 07:30

The guy who played puck on glee.

What a fall from grace that was.

Mustangwally · 19/11/2018 07:48

Serena Williams. Thought she was an amazing role model until the US Open this year. Her behaviour was disgusting- she gets penalised for outright cheating, undermining the integrity of the umpire and racket abuse then has the audacity to bleat about sexism rather than apologise. She is an appalling role model.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 19/11/2018 07:56

I didn't know about so many of these people!

Totally with PP re: Ian Watkins and Lostprophets. I met them and have a photo somewhere with him with his arm around me. Not enough scrubbing in the world. Makes me feel so ill.

rightreckoner · 19/11/2018 08:00

I know a bit about Simon Pegg having come across him a few times irl. And yes - his ordinary bloke, man of the people schtick does not accord with his real life personality Hmm

LaDaronne · 19/11/2018 08:03

IIRC she was early twenties. I haven't like, obsessively read up on it or anything and I'm not claiming it was the crime of the century, I'd put it about on a par with Ariana Grande licking a doughnut. And I'm sure he's weeping into his millionaire cornflakes about me finding it a bit of a naff cliché.

Endofthelinefinally · 19/11/2018 08:08

I know a couple of teens who paid a lot of money for an interactive event with David Tennant. He was rude, dismissive and left very early, leaving a lot of young Dr Who fans very disappointed.

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 19/11/2018 08:10

The fact that it’s inappropriate for a 40 year old lecturer to have a relationship with a 24 year old PhD supervisee doesn’t mean that the same age gap is necessarily dodgy between normal co-workers LaDaronne.
