We're going to IKEA today Grin

Naturally I'm very very excited and DH is so enthusiastic it currently sounds like he's trying to drown himself in the shower.

However, all I need are a couple of small things. What have you picked up recently that I really really need in my life?

Daim is about all I ever want in ikea so tbf I'd happily be left in the soft play too! As long as I was collected in time to go to the cafe for a slice of Daim cake too Grin dh says it's all a heap of monkey shit yet insists on going at least once a year and buying a trolley load

MiddlingMum · 17/11/2018 14:09

My favourite bit about going to ikea is walking through the car park watching people get to their vehicle (usually a Toyota Yaris or similar) and act totally surprised when the king sized mattress they just bought doesn’t get in the boot.

I have a friend who used to work in an office overlooking an IKEA car park. She said some days were so entertaining that they barely got any work done.

Brushed cotton duvet covers.... so cosy

beachyhead · 17/11/2018 14:22

We also try out all the product names as swear words or insults....as in 'You're such a Melltorp!'

zucchinieggplant · 17/11/2018 14:29

DH came home with a packet of their cinnamon rolls frozen. They are lush, and make the house smell amazing.
He also came home with half of the food hall he's never going there alone again.

I love ikea so much it’s on my list of cheap rainy day activities, even better now eldest dd can go in the crèche.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 17/11/2018 16:26

I hate Ikea, we never go (both hate flatpack and I have no use for 1000 tea lights).

However, I did a similarly mad thing today. I went to the local, very popular, garden centre (chi-chi deli, big naice cafe thing, posh home wares, you know the sort). It’s the first weekend for their Christmas extravaganza (people come on coach trips to visit it Hmm; grotto, RL reindeer, carousel ride, as well as a million and one twinkly lights and all the rest. It was rammed. I went for potting compost & aggregate, not for the festive tripe. Should’ve gone in the week.

Kallax units. Recently got my first ones. Love them.

yorkshirepud44 · 17/11/2018 20:22

Omg I have an amazing river view from my desk but I'd happily trade it for a view of the Ikea car park. Grin

sprinklesofweirdness · 17/11/2018 20:35

PetuliaBlavatsky · 17/11/2018 20:43

I haven’t been to ikea yet this year. My ex and I were plotting a day trip there the other day though, we’re just wondering how to divest ourselves of children before we go though, as they eat too many daim cakes!

FlorisApple · 17/11/2018 21:20

Last time I went to Ikea, my lovely Dad drove me in his station wagon while DH stayed home with the kids. Got there early, had done lots of research on what to get, so flew around the shelves getting everything, was all efficient and made it to the market place and checkouts feeling great! No queues to pay yet! Yay! Everything scanned, opened purse: DH has borrowed my debit card and forgotten to return it! Now THAT did almost end in divorce. In fact, he's lucky he still has his life. Poor Dad had to eventually put everything on his credit card for me, although I did faff around for a while at the checkout trying to work out how to use apple pay, while the line behind us steadily grew......ugh, you have brought up bad memories, OP....Grin

I went yesterday because of this thread. Grin

Kallax units. Recently got my first ones. Love them.

Got one for DD, she spent a happy evening moving all the crap art stuff off of her desk and putting it all over the shelves. Smile

I did look for the will to live about halfway around, I couldn't find any and DP definitely lost his. Apparently his socks were a bit rough and were rubbing his poor tootsies. Grin

We also bought a big bag of diam, and have already eaten most of it. Blush

KristinaM · 19/11/2018 10:26

I love Ikea too. The trick is to be waiting at the door when it opens in the morning . Failing that, go on a Monday or Tuesday from 5-7pm.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 19/11/2018 10:29

I saw a van recently for a company that assembles flatpack furniture for you. It said “save your marriage!” Grin

llangennith · 19/11/2018 10:37

I can't believe I've just read a whole thread about shopping in IKEA 😂
I live near the Cardiff store (smug grin). Love it.

JustWhatINeededNow · 19/11/2018 10:49

We need to go soon but I've broken my arm.

This changes the dynamics of shopping completely!

TotallyWipedout · 19/11/2018 14:32

A hard boiled egg chopper.

Orangecake123 · 19/11/2018 14:35

I loooooooove Ikea and would happily spend hours there.

I really like their vanilla candles and dill and lemon fish sauce.

BabiesComeWithHats · 19/11/2018 15:10

You just need a PLAN. Measure everthing and plan ahead.

These www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-organisers-shelves/variera-box-white-art-30155019/ are brilliant for tupperware control

These for kids soft toys/bedside tables www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/tables/coffee-side-tables/kvistbro-storage-table-turquoise-art-10322241/
