Preparing for our annual argument

We're going to IKEA today Grin

Naturally I'm very very excited and DH is so enthusiastic it currently sounds like he's trying to drown himself in the shower.

However, all I need are a couple of small things. What have you picked up recently that I really really need in my life?

On my last trip I saw a couple carrying a large dining chair each and walking against the flow of shoppers being herded sauntering through the display areas. People were looking at them - pointing and sniggering as they obviously didn't know the Ikea etiquette.

FunTimesInBabylon · 19/11/2018 18:02

Food poisoning.

That’s what I got on my last trip to Ikea 🤮 (Luke warm meatballs)

But I do love their 50p spatulas.

Laloup1 · 19/11/2018 18:43

love this thread :)
We recently survived two marathon trips to Ikea for kitchen part 1 and part 2.
Kitchens are great!
The garlic press is my very favourite thing

Sunshineonleaf · 19/11/2018 19:11

I went to Ikea for the very first time last week. Adult DS moving into his own place and we went together, about a 2 hour round trip.
As we arrived he announced that he somewhere else to be and we had an hour!
First we were conned into walking round an entire floor of rooms Confused. We eventually realised it wasn't really the actual shop bit and ran round until we found the kitchen stuff. Flung some pans and crockery in the trolley and whizzed out to the checkout.
No six hour meander for me Grin.

ALongHardWinter · 19/11/2018 19:29

You only have ONE argument a year? Just, wow. totally misses point of thread

Sweetpea55 · 19/11/2018 19:30

I visited the one in Coventry,,
I couldn't find out where to actually buy anything,,,just wandered aimlessly around the room displays,,,,and then couldn't find the way out

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 19/11/2018 19:42

Get there early. Eat. Go around the showrooms. Eat. Go round the warehouse bit. Eat.

I go without Dh though Grin

AuntMarch · 19/11/2018 19:43

I have ever been and am now confused. You can buy cinnamon buns and sofas and garlic presses?

LunaLovesgood · 19/11/2018 19:57

@AuntMarch you can buy literally everything. The reason it causes the annual argument is because I like to browse and really take my time picking out the right things. DH likes to pick up all the random stuff. We have a new stuffed elephant called stomp now because he couldn't resist and 3 new pictures for the bedroom and a rug for the living room we didn't need

We then both go and eat all the food and debate how much we need for the freezer at home

Not been for ages (skint and you always spend £££££ more then you planned) and was looking at their stuff online for ages at the weekend. Lightbulbs are looking like great value - the large screw fitting size ones for £1 each! Really, really want to go now, usually try to time it so I arrive at opening time. DH hates it. Do Swedish men hate Ikea too?

MissLadyM · 19/11/2018 20:08

Tealights! The only ones that aren't shit

MaryJenson · 19/11/2018 20:15

I never know know what I can no longer live without until I get there.

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 19/11/2018 20:23

Ive been granted next monday off and need some stuff for the house... aka shite i dont really need but actually do need, im going to ikea woohoo Grin

WoollyMollyMonkey · 19/11/2018 21:07

Last time I went to Ikea we came back with norovirus...

Funny you should say that, last time we went my husband got something similar (terrible uncontrollable shits) within less than an hour of leaving! It was bloody awful! Envy (not envy!)

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 19/11/2018 23:56

I use lots of their square trays for the kitchen (they are 33 x 33cm). They stack really small and neat and I use them for everything from tea and biscuits to little projects the kids are doing. And Trofast trays - the kids have lots of the furniture in their rooms, and and sometimes we change the colour scheme so buy new trays, they are really cheap and hard wearing.

Dowser · 20/11/2018 00:09

Yogima

my thoughts exactly.
We didn't even get half way and decided to leave, the store was empty too but heck can you get out that place in a hurry???
no forty five miles round other folks ideas of living rooms full of crap I wouldnt ever buy, later, we exited.
No need to hurry back

ImogenTubbs · 20/11/2018 06:20

I live in Spain. The key here is to go about 2pm when all the Spaniards are having long lunches and then chilling out/having siestas. It's quite quiet. By 5pm it's picked right up again. I love Ikea!

VanillaSugary · 20/11/2018 06:23

We went to IKEA too on Saturday- must have missed you. We failed to buy a TV cabinet, a spare bed and a desk but I did get some Christmas Tree scented tea lights, funnily enough.

SpeckledyHen · 20/11/2018 07:52

I went yesterday and only bought a toy mouse which might come in handy .

Clawdy · 20/11/2018 08:54

Socktopus a must, I have two, and may get a third!

blamethecat · 20/11/2018 11:03

I love Ikea, ds loves Ikea so much he made a model one at school !
We went earlier this month, no arguments and we got all the things we wanted and it all fitted in the car. In fact I think that is probably a high point of life and it is all downhill from now on.

VickieCherry · 20/11/2018 12:00

Last time we went my partner walked smack bang into a sign in the car park before we even got into the shop. He wasn't knocked out but ended up on the floor and was very dazed for a few minutes (still have no idea how he missed it...).

It was not a good day. I installed him in the cafe with food and drink, but it didn't exactly endear him to the place. And we're going this weekend...

Badwifey · 20/11/2018 12:08

Ooh you've given me the goo to go to Ikea today
