Preparing for our annual argument

We're going to IKEA today Grin

Naturally I'm very very excited and DH is so enthusiastic it currently sounds like he's trying to drown himself in the shower.

However, all I need are a couple of small things. What have you picked up recently that I really really need in my life?

Scope out the cut throughs so that you can avoid the ikea shuffle round every single item they sell. There is something quite satisfying about being in and out in under an hour and getting only the item you went in for.

Loonoon · 17/11/2018 11:35

We live near an Ikea. When DC were youngish teens they would go to the coffee shop on dates. It was cheap and cheerful, they could hang out indefinitely and unlike our local shopping centre no gangs of other marauding teens to hassle them.

GnomeDePlume · 17/11/2018 11:35

Last time I went to Ikea we came back with norovirus...

Just wondering what ikea would call that? Vomska

RandomMess · 17/11/2018 11:39

Set of 3 silicone plate/pan/dish/bowl covers!

I sometimes wonder if I should go to Ikea just for the exercise!

PiperPublickOccurrences · 17/11/2018 11:44

Meatballs, rostis and a sachet of gravy.

KingLooieCatz · 17/11/2018 11:46

Thought you were going to be gearing up for your annual Christmas argument.

It's a vital part of any family's Christmas "to do" list.

I love this observation hahahaaaaaa

christmaaaas · 17/11/2018 11:52

Teatowels. Obviously

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/11/2018 12:03

IKEA kept me sane. I used to put kids in the crèche and go and have a cup of coffee on my own and enjoy a little time not having to supervise 2 little ones who would run in opposite directions for fun

crimsonlake · 17/11/2018 12:06

I have a good idea, go on your own instead of dragging him with you.

@MaverickSnoopy always the 3 pack of scissors!! And can I ever find any of the pairs and pairs of ikea scissors we own when I need them....

Tinty · 17/11/2018 12:18

Could you just leave him in the car with a bottle of Panda Pops, a Ladybird book and a packet of crisps? Leave the radio on and crack a window, he'll be fine for an hour or so.

(Child of the 70's here, obvs)

Just make sure he doesn't get out and play chase around the car park, that's what I and Dbro used to do. Grin

Also child of the 70's.

Also now I want to go to Ikea. Hmm sure I have urgent need of tea lights/scissors/meatballs! Smile

Definitely have urgent need of mini diam bars. Grin

anniehm · 17/11/2018 12:34

I went earlier in the year for home office furniture, never ever again! It's a nightmare and the market place stuff was such poor quality (you can buy better in Asda) dd nagged me to go there but even she had to admit the meatballs she coveted were very poor.

PinkOboe · 17/11/2018 12:35

Go on your own. At 7.30 or 8pm and you’ll have a wonderful time

anniehm · 17/11/2018 12:36

I admit it had been 20 years since last visit, it's still rubbish

PetuliaBlavatsky · 17/11/2018 12:54

I did my Ikea shop this morning. Online. 😁
I ordered one of those gymnastics mats so pleased it gets a good rating here!

chocolatebox1 · 17/11/2018 12:56

Ffs why am I now reading the Ikea menu online?! 😂

Pluckedpencil · 17/11/2018 13:00

VomskaGrindrowning himself in showerGrin. DS is so scarred by IKEA that when we are going somewhere he is unlikely to be interested in, we first of all say it's IKEA, to soften the blow of the other undesirable event. I think I'd like to try a 7pm visit. I really don't want to play "hide and seek from hell" like I had to last time.....with my viet cong level 2 year old DD!

HRTpatch · 17/11/2018 13:02

We went last week and I was very underwhelmed. The Xmas stuff was disappointing.
Bought a lamp and 3 picture frames.

TapStepBallChange · 17/11/2018 13:08

Best time to go to IKEA is when England are playing a match during a major football tournament. Neither DH nor I are big football fans, and IKEA is deserted. We had to order wardrobes one year, which seem to involve ordering every hinge and bracket separately, and there were loads of staff available to help.

proudestofmums · 17/11/2018 13:20

I bought a laptop tray - a semi circular thing which is soft and squashy one side and hard on the other - perfect for resting my tablet, which wont stand up on its own iyswim but needs a hard surface to prop itsel on. I use it a lot for typing (boring work related) so having this tray thing means I can use it in an armchair!

Problem was I left it one night squishy side up and the cat promptly adopted it! Ive now had to buy another one for him!

PixieMiss · 17/11/2018 13:21

Dear god you cannot beat an Ikea. I have a 2 year old so its never quite the same 😒

Saying that, its my birthday next week. I might ask my mum to watch him for a few hours as my present just so I can go on my own Grin
