Wedding Hymn Suggestions

We are getting married in a few weeks and still haven't decided on our hymns!
We would like 3, we have decided on Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace to be sung by the full choir during the signing of the register.

I've always liked morning has broken but it is a late afternoon wedding in autumn so not sure it goes, same with all things bright and beautiful.
Autumn Days and One More Step Along The World I Go are nice but DP thinks it's a bit primary school assembly.

Possibly Amazing Grace and Lord Of The Dance?

I just don't know!
I'd appreciate any ideas!

My friend had praise my soul the king of heaven at her wedding it was our School birthday hymn so we all knew it well.

Make me a channel of my peace we had at my mums funeral and I can sing it for crying.

RedCabbageHowMuch · 21/10/2018 19:45

We had make 'Make me a channel of your peace', 'Lord of all hopefulness' and 'Amazing Grace' would still pick them now, with possibly 'All things bright and beautiful' thrown in as well.

I was so certain my first DD would be called Grace, that we chose 'Amazing Grace' for our wedding, so we could tell her we sang it at our wedding. We did have our Amazing Grace, and have sang it at both DC christenings and my dear Mums funeral. Means a lot to me that song

Lord of all hopefulness with wedding words

I think the suggestions here are really peculiar. Lord of the Dance, Morning is Broken? Have we gone back 40 years?

I totally agree.

Crikeyblimey · 21/10/2018 19:59

My sister had me believe they had Fight the good Fight at her wedding for years - I was only 3 when they got married mind. Grin

We just chose hymns we liked. Immortal Invisible is one of my favourite. Can’t remember the others but they were good ones that most of the congregation knew. So sorry, no help at all.

I only like traditional hymns. Personal taste innit!

Babybearsporij · 21/10/2018 20:19

We had:

Love divine all loves excelling
Praise my soul the king of heaven
Jerusalem (because we knew it'd be a roof raiser!)

We tried to choose ones that people would know.

Justabadwife · 21/10/2018 20:25

We had
Guide me o thou great redeemer
One more step along the world I go
Perfect love

We signed the register to hallelujah

sproutsandparsnips · 21/10/2018 20:26

We had Lord of the Dance - I think it's lovely.
We also had 'Guide Me O thou Great Redeemer' and 'Immortal, Invisible God only Wise'.
I do think if I had my time again I'd have 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind'.
Other suggestions:
Love Divine all Loves Excelling
Lord Jesus Christ
And can it be
For the beauty of the Earth
Jerusalem
Amazing Grace

sproutsandparsnips · 21/10/2018 20:28

Also One more Step is nice
Will it be near Christmas? If so, 'Love came down at Christmas' would be perfect.

Ginger1982 · 21/10/2018 20:48

We had Praise My Soul The King of Heaven and We Plough The Fields and Scatter.

Ktay · 21/10/2018 20:58

Tell out my soul is a lovely one, we had that.

The royal wedding the other week had Glorious things of thee are spoken - another great tune but maybe less well known.

Pinkyponkcustard · 21/10/2018 21:46

Love Devine all loves excelling - lovely uplifting tune, perfect for a wedding

sansouci · 21/10/2018 22:10

Ah, the Saint-Seans was played for the recessional.

babypsmum · 21/10/2018 22:13

We had Bind Us Together & Give Me Joy in My Heart. Both worked really nicely for a wedding.

Proseccoagain · 21/10/2018 23:59

We had Love Divine, and Praise my soul the King of heaven.

MamaJune · 24/10/2018 15:30

We have gone for
Amazing Grace - as the first hymn
Make me a channel of your peace - to be sung by the full choir during the signing of the register
Give me oil in my lamp - as the final hymn

Thank you all for your suggestions and thoughts. We've gone for our favourites and I hope they'll all work well!
