Wedding Hymn Suggestions

We are getting married in a few weeks and still haven't decided on our hymns!
We would like 3, we have decided on Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace to be sung by the full choir during the signing of the register.

I've always liked morning has broken but it is a late afternoon wedding in autumn so not sure it goes, same with all things bright and beautiful.
Autumn Days and One More Step Along The World I Go are nice but DP thinks it's a bit primary school assembly.

Possibly Amazing Grace and Lord Of The Dance?

I just don't know!
I'd appreciate any ideas!

We had:
Guide Me O thou Great Redeemer
Lord of all Hopefulness
Jerusalem

Everyone knows them well, so everyone sings the roof off!!

HannahnotAgnes · 21/10/2018 14:39

We had Make me a channel of your peace, Amazing Grace & Oh Jesus I have promised (fast version) as we wanted hymns we both loved & brought back fond memories (which they all did).

My plan is to also have those hymns at my funeral (although hopefully that's not anytime soon ).

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 21/10/2018 14:39

I had Morning has broken for a 3pm October wedding, it didn't occur to me that it wasn't appropriate.

I am in no way religious & would say I was an atheist, but I really love singing hymns
I love singing 'I vow to thee my country' the words are beautiful,if you are religious or not.

The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

BeautyAndTheBrat · 21/10/2018 15:10

Come thou fount of every blessing?

shirleyschmidt · 21/10/2018 15:15

Whatever you do, choose hymns which are well-known and even non-religious folk will be familiar. Everyone will join in and it'll make for a much better atmosphere. We had Jerusalem and Morning Has Broken, which both fitted really well.

Redyoyo · 21/10/2018 16:46

We had Be our chief guest Lord, which is a wedding hymn sung to the tune of morning has broken.

scaryteacher · 21/10/2018 16:50

We had Dear Lord and Father, Love Divine (to Blanwern, same tune as at the recent York wedding) and O Perfect Love.

ARoomSomewhere · 21/10/2018 16:56

I had Ave Maria, Jerusalem, Amazing Grave, Dear Lord and Father, and also the fast version of Oh Jesus i have Promised. And for the kids we had Morning has Broken and 1 More Step. I love Hymns!

ARoomSomewhere · 21/10/2018 16:57

Amazing Grave Grin

Perhaps i could have that at my funeral Grin

Applepudding2018 · 21/10/2018 17:05

My choice was 'how great thou art' . Always reminds me of my gran singing along to Songs of Praise.

anniehm · 21/10/2018 18:01

Dear lord and father of mankind, for the beauty of the earth, depending on the date, if it's advent you could have lo he comes with clouds descending, good rousing tune.

As for the choirs piece - the lord bless you and keep you is a good one, for daughters usually sing this at weddings

kenandbarbie · 21/10/2018 18:10

There's morning has broken with alternative wedding words, I'll find it for you.

C0untDucku1a · 21/10/2018 18:23

I chose one hymn because of the latin. Just to be annoying Grin but it is also a popular primary school hymn. As a kneel
Before you. (Ava Maria).

I also had Our God Reigns.

I can’t quite remmeber the others atm.

bookgirl1982 · 21/10/2018 18:27

For the beauty of the earth is lovely for an autumn wedding

CherryPavlova · 21/10/2018 18:28

Make me a channel is just beautiful.

Bind us together.
Love divine
Great is thy faithfulness
Love is his name
Jerusalem
Here I am

mostlydrinkstea · 21/10/2018 18:28

Links to lots of hymns here. www.yourchurchwedding.org/article/hymns-for-your-wedding/

Aph413 · 21/10/2018 18:32

We had give me joy in my heart and one more step. Both primary school staples but I wanted hymns everyone would know and I hadn't heard some of my other favourites outside of my regular church.

liquidrevolution · 21/10/2018 18:37

I had morning has broken at my 3pm early spring wedding so sure that will be fine. Our second hymn was All things bright and beautiful.

We had lord of the dance as the final hymn as its a nice upbeat one to end on.

I wanted hymns that people knew from school so they could sing and enjoy them.

liquidrevolution · 21/10/2018 18:38

forgot to add we had for the beauty of the earth sung by DSIL during the signing of the register.

sansouci · 21/10/2018 18:39

I remember singing If I Had Words (Saint-Saens) at our wedding. It's best known from the film Babe. It's lovely.

CraftyGin · 21/10/2018 18:42

I think the suggestions here are really peculiar. Lord of the Dance, Morning is Broken? Have we gone back 40 years?

GladAllOver · 21/10/2018 18:42

My sister asked me for suggestions for hymns for her wedding.
I suggested "Fight the good fight" and "Through the night of doubt and sorrow"
She didn't appreciate it.
You just can't help some people.

Bluetrews25 · 21/10/2018 19:20

For us, Morning Has Broken (as per new beginnings / life together)
and Love Divine
Liked the tunes, well known and NOT horrendously long (which All Things Bright and Beautiful and Lord Of The Dance both are, unless you cut lots of verses.)
And, yes, they are old, probably because I have not been to church or sung a hymn for a very long time.
