Hurrying to get ready this morning and trying to quickly slap on some make up - couldn’t find a bobble so just grabbed a pair of thongs from my (clean) washing pile to tie my hair up.
Dd was being really difficult so abandoned the make up idea and just hurried and left.

Went to the school and had a meeting with a couple of teachers re dd. Then went to a hospital appointment for dd, and to a cafe afterwards.
Home now, and dd1 walked in and said ‘haaa, mum, why do you have knickers in your hair’
Yup - that’s right. I’ve had the thongs tying my hair up ALL FRIGGIN DAY!!! And dd1 is laughing her head off at me.

Why did nobody tell me?? I know the receptionist, the teachers, the consultants and nobody said a bloody word. 2 women were giving me funny looks in the cafe but as dd has a noticeable disability I presumed they were staring at her and gave them a well practised ‘dont stare at my daughter’ look back.

Oh my god I want the ground to swallow me up. They weren’t even nice thongs - greying, lacey primark ones with all the elastic bits poking out. Dd said they were glaringly obvious.

Would you have said anything? Shall I say anything to the consultants when we’re back on Thursday, so they don’t think I’ve lost my marbles??! Oh no... I might just move countries instead.

Please help me to feel better and tell me you’ve done something similar. Off to crawl under a rock now...

This is what you get, OP, for airing your actually clean dirty laundry in public - your stealth boast about being a pair of thongs-wearer has reached Finland!

Famous In Finland.

Well, what do you know?!

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 08/10/2018 20:24

It's disappointing and annoying when The Waily Fail steals mumsnet threads, slightly less annoying when it's The Mirror but both still smack of lazy and voyeuristic journalism. But somehow, it being in this Finnish newspaper seems quite cool. And - my Finnish being a little rusty - the English translation was comedy gold. The best reason yet for cancelling Brexit.

Can we now look forward to a photo of the OP and her family in The Fail, all looking sad and embarrassed, and pointing at her hair-thong?

Can we also look forward to the OP's autobiography, 'Going for a Thong: My Life in Scanty Underwear'?

I sincerely hope so.

FingerLickingGod · 08/10/2018 20:28

Did you post a photo of this on Instagram? Someone I follow did exactly the same thing. All the details in the OP are the same as the Instagram post, grey primark knickers as well.

I not once, not twice but four times now have rocked up to work with my trousers on inside out, seams out the lot 😩. I easily slip them over my hips so no need to use button.
Usually I notice at the bus stop but last time I didn't notice until half way through the day when I had duties about my hospital! Not one person mentioned it!

And a big thank you to Finlandnow for taking the trouble to register to let us all know.

Please don't go, Finny- you're one of us now.

Finlandnow · 10/10/2018 19:48

Thank you very much for your kindness, I assume you all must be English: The nice humour and the warm kindness. There is not much happening here in our small remote cold country next to Russia, like somebody knew...so that funny story was a big news here.Smile Thank you jammiebammie for
bringing joy to us.

I reached across the table to help DD with her food, think she was about 6, forgot about the coffee that was in front of me. Then thought ‘why is my boob hot?’ Yep, I’d managed to stick my boob in my coffee. Naturally I was wearing a white T and didn’t have a jacket, what with it being summer.

^^ In a coffee shop.

I remember grabbing a warm fleece to walk down thread to my friends house , putting it on en-route and further on down the road realising a pair of lacy knickers had velcro-Ed themselves to the back of the fleece - red face ( and another red face for visiting with my keys and a pair of lacy knickers in my hand )

prettygreywalls · 11/10/2018 14:07

I should have said it was warm from the tumble dryer

What a generous post, Finlandnow - thank you. You have made me find out a little more about your home country. What an incredible place to live. I hope you always feel able to join in here. Best wishes Flowers
