I am bored Grin sooo tell me how you make your coffee?! I do coffee, milk then water as my mother always taught me that the water burns the coffee without milk in there first?

My friend does coffee, water then milk and i can't help but think it tastes different! Wether it's that my brain knows she done it that way or it actually does taste different i don't know!

How do you make yours?

OP posts:

Coffee one of the day: 1 tsp of instant coffee, milk then water.

Coffee 2, fill small glass cup with boiling water to warm it. Fill espresso glass with boiling water to warm it. Fill dualit machine with water, filter paper and ground Lazazza espresso coffee. Boil milk in a jug in microwave. Empty espesso cup of water and switch on machine. Empty glass cup of water then pour freshly made espresso into cup, top with hot milk.

Add a quarter of a teaspoon of Sukrin and stir.

Enjoy.

DearTeddyRobinson · 19/09/2018 06:51

Is this for instant? I suppose I would do coffee, water, milk. But I use filter coffee well posh I am

MalcolmsBrokenWalrusMoneybox · 19/09/2018 06:52

Tip granules directly from jar into massive mug. Add boiling water. Add some cold water so I can drink it.
Take a sip.
Make a face - oooh that's a bit strong!
Ah well.
Make a mental note to use a spoon next time.
Don't.

I use an aeropress when I make real coffee, but thought it was obvious from the OP that this thread was about instant.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/09/2018 06:58

I use an aeropress and don't actually worry about the temperature of the water- I honestly can't taste the difference between coffee made with boiling water or made with 90C water.

Thise of you using the address inverted method - how??? I tried it and got water everywhere. I keep.it uptight, let it need for 90 seconds - 2 minutes then plunge it through.

perhapstomorrow · 19/09/2018 07:15

I use a bean to cup machine. Top up with water from the machine (don t think it's boiling) , then a splash of milk for those who like milk in it.

Meet0nTheIedge · 19/09/2018 07:24

I get coffee everywhere if I use the non-inverted method Emma. Put grinds in, pour water in and stir v.gently, blow away any grinds in the screw threads, place filter in cap and screw on snugly, wait, turn over and press. You do need to be very careful not to press down when screwing the cap and filter on.

MargotLovedTom1 · 19/09/2018 07:31

Grin at the posters with their espressos and aeropresses and invert methods (?) etc, when the OP clearly meant 'instant coffee: milk before water or after?'.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/09/2018 07:37

At the risk of derailing this thread Meet (maybe we need an aeropress thread) I assemble the aeropress, drop a scoop of coffee into it, pour water in, stir, put plunger in but don't depress, wait a couple of minutes then push plunger down. Never had any coffee spillage.

Meet0nTheIedge · 19/09/2018 08:02

I've onmy actually tried the proper way once or twice but I found it tricky getting the plunger in without some water/coffee coming out and then the rest drips through the filter into the cup while I am waiting for it to brew, which defeats the object a bit. I only use 1 scoop and half fill with water though. Anyway I get on fine with the inverted way. Sorry for derailing, I did originally answer about instant!

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 19/09/2018 08:24

Same as above, coffee then milk added and mixed whilst kettle is boiling. My kettle shows the temp of the water so I take it off at about 96degs. I HATE that burnt coffee smell and taste if people don't add milk first.

Odiepants · 19/09/2018 08:30

I don't know anyone who makes instant coffee by adding the milk first! Everyone I know makes it hot water first then add milk to taste.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/09/2018 08:31

Set the machine to ‘My Coffee’ switch on, add milk when it’s filled the mug.

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 19/09/2018 08:38

Absolute game changer.
Off work today and don’t have instant at home but will be trying out the milk first jobby as soon as I get into the office tomorrow!

Smurfybubbles · 19/09/2018 08:39

Heaped teaspoon of azera intenso (2 of the babies had a particularly bad night) fill cup up half way with boiling water and top up with cold so good to drink straight away Wink switched to black coffee when I was pregnant and haven't gone back!

PickAChew · 19/09/2018 08:42

Put filter into clever coffee cone.
Tip coffee into filter.
Tip in a bit more coffee for luck.
Pour hot water onto coffee.
Put milk in the biggest mug I have.
Put cone on top of mug.

Smokeahontas · 19/09/2018 08:44

Depends - if instant then milk & granules followed by hot water. If cafetiere then coffee followed by milk.

Jenasaurus · 19/09/2018 15:27

I do the milk in first as was also told the hot water burns the coffee. How does that work if you drink it black?

DoubleNegativePanda · 19/09/2018 15:34

I know I'm going to sound like a cow, but I really didn't realize that people under 75 drank instant coffee. I was very confused by this thread at first as I couldn't figure out why or how you'd put milk in before you brewed the coffee.

Just, why? Why drink instant coffee?

PhaedrasChocolate · 19/09/2018 15:42

Hahahaha this thread genuinely couldn't get any more middle class GrinGrin

Mind you, I have a Tassimo and I love it. I hate instant coffee these days, I'd honestly rather have tea.

Verbena87 · 19/09/2018 15:43

Marry man who is fanatical about coffee and will not have instant in house.

Wait in bed; mug if gorgeous coffee will appear. He won’t let me do it as he needs to micromanage entire coffee making ritual. He is not remotely controlling in other areas of life, and I get coffee in bed every morning and am only slightly embarrassed by the quantity of expensive coffee-related parephenalia in the kitchen.

Ginmakesitallok · 19/09/2018 15:44

Aeropress, sugar then milk

Meet0nTheIedge · 19/09/2018 15:57

I like both instant and real, they are completely different drinks. Its a bit like oven chips versus chip shop chips, its ok to like both. I'm way under 75.

evilharpy · 19/09/2018 15:57

I don't drink instant but I do make it at work for the people who want it when I'm doing a tea run.

Add heaped teaspoon of coffee to mug. Top up with water almost to the top from the boiling water tap. Stir. Add sugar if required and milk and stir again.

Some people at work don't like the boiling water tap and prefer to boil the kettle - I'm not sure why, maybe because the water is hotter? But tea made with the tap seems fine to me and I'm quite fussy about tea.

If making tea, the milk always goes in last.

Me personally, at home I either use an aeropress (inverted method as I find it less messy) or a moka pot, top up to an Americano with a bit of hot water and add a drop (about a capful) of skimmed milk which for some reason I don't seem to be able to wean myself and drink it completely black.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 19/09/2018 16:08

If I drank instant

Coffee
Water

Done.

If I were making instant for a friend, I think I would put the milk in last.
