How do you make your coffee?

I am bored Grin sooo tell me how you make your coffee?! I do coffee, milk then water as my mother always taught me that the water burns the coffee without milk in there first?

My friend does coffee, water then milk and i can't help but think it tastes different! Wether it's that my brain knows she done it that way or it actually does taste different i don't know!

How do you make yours?

@Meet0nTheIedge, ok can see your point. I hadn't looked at it in an oven chips/chip shop type of way. I still don't like instant though Wink

BlueEyedBengal · 19/09/2018 16:41

Tassimo machine, dolce gusto machine, coffee perk machine, american stove top coffee pot x 3 and cafeteria pot all ready to use how I fancy. I'm not going to go through my coffee collection it would take too long it's my passion Smile

PlinkPlink · 19/09/2018 16:42

Moka espresso pot, Lavazza coffee (used to drink Illy but got too expensive), milk warmed to sort of blood temperature-ish in the microwave and frothed in a Bodum Latteo milk frother

DolorestheNewt · 19/09/2018 16:48

I like both instant and real, they are completely different drinks.

I sometimes have a milky instant if I want something milky and soothing. I agree, it's not like a real coffee, but it's perfectly pleasant if it's what you feel like having.

CalonGlas · 19/09/2018 17:07

half and half in the US changed my life. First thing we did when we got back from holiday was to buy an old-fashioned drip coffee machine, and sneakily designate a half-and-half container of milk in the fridge for adult coffee use only.

CalonGlas · 19/09/2018 17:10

(I'm aware that round these parts, asking for half-and-half in your coffee might end up a bit chippy/ricey.)

SecretWitch · 19/09/2018 17:13

Cream with coffee, nice, thick, rich cream. Half and half in a pinch but still a bit watery for delicious coffee.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 19/09/2018 17:44

I'm not a coffee nut but DH drinks it. Grind beans in little spice grinder, stove top pot, pour then add milk.

If I have it, I prefer a shot of neat espresso. I find long milky coffees fairly unpleasant!

PlinkPlink · 19/09/2018 17:45

What's half and half?

actualpuffins · 19/09/2018 17:54

It really doesn't matter what order you make instant coffee in.

Use a bean to cup machine. Press the button to operate. That's it.

EndeavourVoyage · 19/09/2018 17:55

Coffee then hot water!

DelurkingAJ · 19/09/2018 17:59

Cafetière here. Off the boil water added then wait. Filter, drink black.

Rockbird · 19/09/2018 18:10

Boiling water, milk, tea bag. Grin

InterstellarSleepingElla · 19/09/2018 18:10

Coffee, water (let it boil then cool down so as not to scorch the coffee) and then milk.

Angelil · 19/09/2018 18:45

I haven't had instant coffee for years.
I have a machine that grinds the beans for me so it is a straight espresso from that. No milk, no sugar. Might occasionally have a cappuccino in the morning if I CBA to faff about with the milk frother :p

Even on the very rare occasion that I have to have instant coffee I would only possibly have the tiniest splodge of milk in it as I find it doesn't taste of much otherwise. Hot water will not damage instant coffee granules as they are already so far from being actual coffee anyway. If you are making cafetière coffee, however, I would advise not actually letting the water get all the way to boiling point. Water only needs to be 80-90°C to make tea or coffee, so if there is just the tiniest amount of steam coming out of the kettle then I would let it get to that point and then make the coffee.

Angelil · 19/09/2018 18:46

Oh, and if making coffee or tea for a friend I wouldn't dream of adding milk for them. It's a very personal thing!

PestoSurfissimos · 19/09/2018 18:48

2 scoops into the cafetière, add just off the boil water, leave for 5 mins, press plunger, pour coffee!

Member745520 · 19/09/2018 20:01

This is how I make it for one person (me) and I've had no complaints so far although experimentation was required for several years to reach perfection Grin

Millicano sort of instant: one third fill mug with milk, add coffee, nuke in m/w a minute or less (this starts the coffee dissolving), then add the boiling water.

Americano type using Jakobs ground coffee and small cafetiere: hot water in cafetiere to warm the glass, tip out water, put in 2 rounded dessertspoonfuls for one mug, pour in water just off the boil, place plunger and lid together on top of cafetiere, wait a few minutes, remove plunger and scoop off the coffee 'crust' and discard, put back plunger and slowly depress right down to the bottom. Pour and enjoy.

Phew! That was hard work getting that all down. I think I'll be off now and make a nice cup of tea...

Pinkshadow · 19/09/2018 20:06

We do coffee, water, milk but have a Smeg kettle so heat the water to 90 degrees.

On weekends we’ll do a cafetiere or use the nespresso machine for latte etc. sometimes with the syprups - can’t wait to get a gingerbread one ready for Christmas.

doedoe90303811 · 19/09/2018 20:14

Hand grinder one scoop light roast Flores beans (around 16 grams), one full (non-inverted) Aeropress with 80C water, about 10% milk added to the result. Insulated or pre-heated glass.

MissConductUS · 19/09/2018 21:16

What's half and half?

Plink, it's half whole milk and half cream. In the US the mixture is sold in cartons alongside the milk and it's used mostly for coffee. I do have a few recipes (blueberry muffins come to mind) where I use it instead of milk for a bit of extra richness.

ellendegeneres · 19/09/2018 21:20

Tassimo 🤷🏻‍♀️
Coffee tastes wrong otherwise now. I love it. And per rules, milk first then coffee and it does taste best like that

Coffee granules, milk then water.
Although I don't often drink it since we got a bean to cup machine.
