Coffee drinking

Hi All.
I'd like your opinions on coffee drinking - I've never come across this snobbery before but today I was ripped apart by a fellow teacher in the staffroom.
As I poured my milk into my mug straight after the instant coffee , which I do because I don't like it tasting burnt, a colleague almost ran across the staffroom shouting"Urgh how disgusting putting milk in before the water, thats revolting . Were you dragged up or brought up"
I was mortified but carried on smiling and took my coffee back to my room feeling as if I should crawl back under the rock I came out from!!!
Have I missed something in 46 years of life that makes this a complete no-no unless you come from the dregs of society?

Thanks Spam 88
It takes a teacher to see the actual question.
How hilarious this is !

Haha raar thanks! Always happy to make new friends (I sense I haven’t made one in you...)

newmumwithquestions · 18/12/2017 19:31

Hmmm came on to say your colleague was wrong but seeing as you seem on a fast track to insulting everyone you probably deserved being ‘ripped apart’.

I’m a barista actually 😁

Kelsoooo · 18/12/2017 19:34

I don’t have time to make any kind of hot drink in my job. So clearly I’m the most important.

crackerjacket · 18/12/2017 19:35

What job do you do?

^

Rattles cages. obv

ReturnOfTheMackYesItIs · 18/12/2017 19:38

Don't fret - you'll soon have at least 2 weeks off so all the time in the world to make decent coffee

LemonysSnicket · 18/12/2017 19:41

I think when you’re using instant then there shouldn’t really be ‘etiquette’ ... it’s like checking the legs on a glass of lambrini... there’s no point.

I like instant, and I like a lot of nice coffees. People get mad when I put cola in red wine, even though I’m the one drinking it so why can’t I drink what I like? She was rude and you should eat and drink things the way you like to.

There’s a piece of food writing called ‘The Case for Bad Coffee’ which you might like Grin

passemoilevin · 18/12/2017 19:42

Thanks folks - obviously those of you who think it's hilarious to be commenting on etiquette of INSTANT coffee have never been in a job with 10 mins at most to grab something between 8 and 1:00., obviously the SAHM's!!

🤦🏽‍♀️😂

Lots of SAHMs worked before they had kids, ya know.

Even I know that, and I'm not one, before you bark at me.

hazeyjane · 18/12/2017 19:42

Do you think she might have been joking....it sounds like joke.

If I make instant I put hot water in first to dissolve the coffee, otherwise you get bits in it and have to stir like fuckery to get them gone.

I have instant at work, but my friend who I work with hates instant so uses coffee bags, which takes the same time as it does to make tea (we have a 5 minute tea break, working with children).

I'm not a big fan of cafetiere coffee - my favourite coffee is made in the stove top coffee pot (obviously impractical at work!)

BackforGood · 18/12/2017 19:43

You were "mortified" Hmm

Really?
Someone makes a tongue in cheek comment about difference between the way you both make your coffees, and you are 'mortified' ?

Not quite sue how you manage a room full of teenagers if you are that sensitive Confused

Kelsoooo · 18/12/2017 19:43

@crackerjacket ..
Me? Not far off.

milleniumhandandprawn · 18/12/2017 19:44

Ooooooh but kelsoo do you have time to make cold drinks?
My friend who is ever so ever so important can’t even think about drinking anything all day.

BeakyPlinder · 18/12/2017 19:45

Haha become a nurse....you will soon learn to like cold instant coffee as you don't get time to drink anything else !

She’s a very rude woman and you should remind her to remember her manners if she starts any of that malarkey again. I hate all coffeeHmm

ArcheryAnnie · 18/12/2017 20:00

I prefer instant coffee. I didn't know the milk was supposed to go in first - I will try that, thanks OP!

unenthusiasticfuturedancemom · 18/12/2017 20:02

I am not a SAHM.

I have a coffee snob husband who hands me a perfectly brewed cup as I leave every morning and a heavily discounted Costa at work Grin

unenthusiasticfuturedancemom · 18/12/2017 20:04

When DH is away I love a bit of Millicano BrewBrewBrew

Naughty1205 · 18/12/2017 20:12

Milk first always always always!

ArgyMargy · 18/12/2017 20:17

You should never make instant coffee with boiling water. You should always make tea with boiling water. That's about as far as any etiquette needs to go. We should also remember that it is extremely vulgar to openly point out etiquette "faux pas". So you win. Xmas Grin

Kelsoooo · 18/12/2017 20:21

@millenium ...nope! But I do have time to purchase them...

Ok ok, it’s more lack of facilities than time.

bluebells1 · 18/12/2017 20:29

Not a SAHM, extremely busy job and I won't touch instant with a bargepole. And yes, you deserved being ripped into for that attitude of yours. Maybe she just doesn't like you. Can't blame her.

Formeressexgirl · 18/12/2017 20:36

I have been a full time working mum and a stay at home mum but never felt desperate enough to switch to instant. Gross. But for the record if you put milk in first in my experience (of making instant for my weird mum who prefers it to proper coffee) you get horrible floaty bits of undiscovered dust/“coffee”

PasstheStarmix · 18/12/2017 20:42

Who has time to make 'proper coffee' at work for god sake! You'll be sick of coffee snobs OP! People need to get a life rather than commenting on how you make you're coffee at work- obviously said member of staff doesn't have one!
