Do you believe in physics?

I don't think I do. All that bumf about electricity and nuclear things and other stuff that is invisible. I simply don't think it exists and is just made up.

I have a degree in physics and always found it funny that at uni they basically said most of what we had learned at school was rubbish and just made up to make it easier to understand! I love it though and totally believe in it. A lot of things make much more sense with physics.

There are some gaps that I think will just never be explained and that kind of makes me think there has to be some sort of god like person out there.

Poppiesway · 10/03/2014 22:44

Some how I passed a pg dip module in physics.. I have no idea.. I "needed" to know it for my exam, so not use it at all in my job.. Although it relies heavily on physics...

Next time you have an ultrasound ask the sonographer how it works.. I hate it when patients do that to me lol

Poppiesway · 10/03/2014 22:46

My son loves physics and currently reading the theory of relativity, at 15. He's Hoping to study physics at uni. I worry I will never have grandchildren..

CalamitouslyWrong · 10/03/2014 22:52

I've been reading that other thread title as 'do you believe in physics' every time on active convos too.

One of my PhD supervisors used to say 'I don't believe in x' (where x was something like economics or history). I can fully imagine her saying 'I don't believe in physics'.

LineRunner · 10/03/2014 22:58

Lollipop, it is a well known fact of physics that planes are held aloft by the sheer willpower of all the people aboard who are shit scared of flying.

LollipopViolet · 10/03/2014 23:15

LineRunner COOL! I keep planes in the sky, then! Grin

Hi all,

We've moved this to the Science Club for you now. Just don't get us started on how the interweb works .

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 11:27

Ooh we are in Science Club.

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 11/03/2014 11:31

I don't believe in science, it's the devils work - now go to church and pray.

A Fred about a Fred . Is this were all the mean girls hide? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 11:34

Hope you have got your goggles on Cigarettes.

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 11/03/2014 11:37

I always got chucked out of science - I used to love throwing iron flings in to the roaring Bunsen burner. Teacher had a real problem with that arsewipe

Once my science teacher took out my stitches after I had my ears pinned back the whole class gathered round and watched.

Can you JUST imagine that now Grin

AtYourCervix · 11/03/2014 11:39

I do believe in faries

I used to. Then I was sitting under a tree one day, and an apple fell off and just floated there in the air- and even though my friend who loves playing tricks was there and said he did it as a joke I just know it wasn't him- it must have been anti gravity. I would have seen if there had been a piece of fishing line tied to it. Ever since then I've not believed in any physic-y stuff. It's all only a theory after all, and there's so much we don't know........

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 11/03/2014 11:43

I'm so glad you said that atyour because this is what happens when you say you don't ! Sad

Do you believe in physics?
Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 11/03/2014 11:46

They do exists because lots of little Fiats are powered by their fairy dust!

KurriKurri · 11/03/2014 12:08

Oh no - if I'd known this thread was going into science club, I wouldn't have said physics was all made up

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2014 12:11

Inertia this is a joke thread, based on ( I believe) they one a few weeks ago "do you believe in psychics?"

"There are some gaps that I think will just never be explained and that kind of makes me think there has to be some sort of god like person out there."

Why do you think they will never be explained?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 11/03/2014 13:48

Our physics teacher brought out a wooden, lead lined box once and told us there was a radioactive source inside. He wouldn't open it and show us though......it could have been empty for all we knew
This was of course Schrodinger's sauce Hidden.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 11/03/2014 13:55

I'm in Science Club? Fuck me, I got kicked out 40 years ago (for sitting at the back whilst my friend ogled the teacher)

squishysquirmy · 11/03/2014 14:04

I used to be sceptical about electrickery, until I poked a toaster with a fork and the bastard bit me.

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 11/03/2014 14:12

Ha ha ha squishy

Martorana · 11/03/2014 14:41

Squishy- that wasn't electricity- that was an evil spirit in the toaster. It needs exorcising. Turn it on, pour Holy Water on it and I guarantee you'll never have that problem again. That'll be £50 please.

Martorana · 11/03/2014 14:43

If you haven't got any holy water, just get some ordinary water, put it near your computer, send me £50 via PayPal and I'll remote sanctify it for you, no problem.
