Time for a new specialism, methinks!

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 17:25

As I already said to Massive, I will have to write the whole thing in one go and then break it down for posting anyway. Am thinking of setting up an account with Wattpad or similar, but don't want too much temptation to write fanfic when I should be doing some more, let's be honest, potentially money making writing projects.

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 27/02/2011 17:34

Phew. One lot of Space Invaders gone, second lot looming on the horizon.

I read the cliques thread at last and was sorry LeQueen felt she had to leave us, and the other lady too. Though I can quite see LeQ's point about the 24/7 obsessing. I decided early on that I was just going to go with the flow, though, as my gift to myself. Gizzy and the others are less fattening than chocolate and low in cholesterol. And I deserve them, for a zillion reasons I am not going to go into. So there!

I am saving the other thread for any spare minutes I can grab later on today. LOL about Squirrel, though!

What a relief that Twiggy got through ''close your eyes' in one piece. I can't decide which would be the dodgiest Gizzy scene to watch with family. Maybe the shirtless one with Marion
''Why's that bird going cross-eyed, mum?''
Or ''I thought I'd never...(swallow) ...kiss you''

Twigs, I luurve etymology not that I have had any formal teaching, but did Latin at school and French so you can often see where things originate. I wish I could sit down sometimes with a list and the OED and look up things I am curious about. Such as the origin of the word 'nerd' And other puzzles. Do you know the one about 'fascinating'?

Spiro, I am so excited that you have been inspired to do a Sparkhouse 2. But take your time and have fun with it too. Have you ever thought of posting on one of the fan fic sites, then it wouldn't get buried under the avalanche of postings we get on here. And you could write at longer length. Etc. IYSWIM Grin

Funny to see Meg there as a little girl. but she looked like a very young girl to me in RH. I can't see why people thought of her as a love interest for Gizzy

SupermassiveLBD · 27/02/2011 17:37

Ah, cross posted with you, Spiro.
Go on, you know you'll do the fanfic anyway

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 17:45

I haven't seen much RH, but it seems quite pervy to think of her being a love interest for Gizzy, although obviously her young age & the huge age gap itself was not unusual in the middle ages.

I can't wait to get stuck into some more writing - I have a folder open on the kitchen workshop at the mo, in between cooking a roast and mumsnetting! Grin

I agree with you both that words are fascinating - can't claim to have a huge knowledge of the subject though, just odd bits I've picked up here & there.

What's the 'fascinating' puzzle?

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 27/02/2011 17:52

fascinating comes from the Latin word fascinum which was the word for the ''embodiment of the divine willy'' according to wikipedia

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 17:53

Re our '24 hour obsessing' - the thing is, we don't, do we?

Obviously we have a lot of fun with the object(s) of our affections, but he's not the only thing we talk about.

I've learnt a lot during the course of these threads, they've really re-awoken my love of writing & the Arts and inspired an interest in history which is not something I've ever contemplated before. Plus I've made half a dozen 'virtual mates', and although I guess it will run its' course eventually, I hope it's not for while yet as tbh I'd miss you guys (cowers at being so un-mumsnetty)! Smile

Seriously?! Shock

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 27/02/2011 18:03

Well, it said phallus which of course is far more technical. but yes. Men are so in love with their bits, aren't they?

Yes, I would miss everyone too, hope we can keep this thread on, despite our diminishling numbers.

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 18:08

Me too, Massive Grin.

Have you been looking up 'nerd' on wiki too? Lots of theories for the origin of that one.

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 27/02/2011 18:16

Spiro, I feel exactly the same as you, about learning new things from this thread - history in particular. Through you guys, I was actually inspired to buy a 'history of Britain' book which I am really enjoying. It's almost made me very interested in writing fanfic too, thought I think I would be quite bad at it. I think it was Maud who had a very good point at the time, about it being a little easier because the characters are already there for you. It seems like a good starting point, perhaps. But then I would also be very embarrassed if I put my hidden Lucas thoughts onto the screen :o I wish I had loads of free time to write and to read and to find out about all the other things this thread has inspired me to find out about (sorry, worst constructed sentence ever!).

I felt a bit :( at LeQ having to "wean herself off us" but I do often find it hard to keep up if I'm not here every day. It would be easier to just start afresh each time I've had a break but I always want to read every post 'cos I don't want to miss out on anything :)

Massive, I am glad that you are giving yourself a gift (that sounds rude :o). I hope you are ok though.

Anybody staying up to watch the Oscars?

SupermassiveLBD · 27/02/2011 18:35

Twigs, ah but no one knows they are your thoughts about Lucas, do they? They are merely your interpretation of the other characters' thoughts.

I have read lots of books and revisited old friends in the poetry field and found new ones, listened to lot of music I had no idea existed and like Spiro rediscovered my love of scribbling. And had so much fun talking to the wittiest bunch of ladies you could ever wish to meet.

And I am fine, my deserving status was earned gradually, from quite a while ago. Grin

Doorbell.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 27/02/2011 19:04

Hello all, dropping in very quickly.

So I haven't read back too far, but what's this about a cliques thread and 24x7 obsessing????

I would just like to say that I do enjoy my visits here, and I hope it all continues for at least a while longer.

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 19:25

I wish I had loads of free time to write and to read...

I don't actually have the time, I'm just a domestic slattern who doesn't do sleep (and yes, am hoping to watch the Oscars live later)!

Massive, I am glad that you are giving yourself a gift (that sounds rude)

I too am delighted for you Massive! And a little Envy - I have to be very sneaky about giving myself gifts after H's little, ahem, discovery t'other week...

Blush Wink and a big Grin

Lurking in the kitchen making tea:

Oh, I still have to be sneaky, Spiro. But I have had years of practice at that.

I don't know what on earth you ladiez think I have been giving myself, it's only coming on here and doing a bit of thudding and day dreaming, and occasionally doing a wee bit of literary research elsewhere. I haven't actually had a set of clones gift-wrapped and delivered to my door. more's the pity

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 19:59

I haven't actually had a set of clones gift-wrapped and delivered to my door.

Well obviously, Massive - otherwise we'd have been missing you these last few days!

And of course, when you do locate the online shop for RA clones, you'll be posting a link on here, won't you?

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 27/02/2011 20:08

I won't post a link, obviously we don't want everyone to know. I would however PM you all.

Gah I wish this lot of Space Invaders would take a hint. Their DCs are poison too.

Oh well. here i go with the tea-tray...

(How about a few suggestions for conversation stopping lines that will make them scrabble for their coats and leave before they become contaminated?)

TheSmallPrint · 27/02/2011 20:19

Evening me lovelies. Another busy day here with rellies, also popped to mums for a nice roastie .

I was thinking about staying up for the Oscars but was a bit disappointed to find out that Hugh Jackman was not introducing this year but Anne Hathaway and some other fella were instead. What a wasted opportunity. Never mind, i can always YT the last one Grin.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 27/02/2011 20:49

Hello, me again! I've read that thread about the scariest groups now (or at least skimmed it). Nothing too bad I thought, if a little annoying.

Oh gawd, being called. Back soon.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/02/2011 21:11

::Timidly waggles a tin of ratafia biscuits, bearing the moniker A gift from Southwold, around the door::

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 21:14

Yeay - Maud - you're back!

Time for new username ComeBackOntoTheThreadMaud!

How're you doing?

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/02/2011 21:19

Am fine, although seem to have caught the thread lurgy.

::sniffs::

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 27/02/2011 21:23

Hi Maud, I have also been suffering, but through the worst of it now, in time to go back to work tomorrow, worse luck!

DumSpiroSpero · 27/02/2011 21:24

Am fine, although seem to have caught the thread lurgy.

Nah, it's just withdrawal symptoms, cos you've been missing us! Grin

Lovely to have you back though

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/02/2011 21:27

I had to come back, once I'd seen that thread in which this was accused of being an obsessive ansd scarey cult.

::Makes Solidarity gesture::

::Realises most members of thread won't know what Solidarity was, as it happened when they were in pre-school::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/02/2011 21:29

And other things happened over the weekend to make me wonder how you all were. I hadn't realised, for example, that Massive is a cover girl.
