I love Poland very much, spent a good bit of my childhood there visiting family as my papa (grandfather) was polish. My uncle marek was the goalkeeper for Górnik Zabrze away back in the late 80s if i remember right. They came over to Scotland to play rangers and got beat 7-0 im sure 🤣 and i got my photo in the glasgow herald with him, wish I could find that article online.

I work in retail and every polish person that I work with are so hardworking, would you take that as a stereotype or is everyone different?

We do work hard, obviously people are different everywhere and you can find many lazy ones there too but in general yeah we work hard

I'm not at all familiar with Polish food but we have several Polish grocery stores in my town - what do you recommend I buy? Any particular kind of sausage? Bread? Anything else?

Not a question as what I would have asked has already been, but just enjoying reading the answers. I visited Krakow last year and thought it was a brilliant place. People were so friendly, kind and welcoming. I said to my husband that I couldn't understand why Polish people would ever want to come the UK although I get that my trip was very different to the everyday life/areas or cities tourists might not see. I'd love to go back.

Newsenmum · 27/11/2025 20:31

Do you feel like poland is generally more
Socially conservative?

Ive heard it is much more child friendly! Do you agree?

Odiebay · 27/11/2025 20:42

My boyfriend is half polish. His relatives are super super sweet but can be overbearing. We went to a wake and they could not have been more lovely but they do not take 12 no's to mean no when it comes to food and drink so it was a bit much.

My builder is also polish and is amazing at carpentry. He is so hardworking.

My questions are around recommendations on where to visit.

I'm planning a 7-10 day trip in Poland next year. What time of year would you recommend? I would be travelling by train and like to stay in 2 different places. Most people have said Gdansk and Krakow to me. Where would you recommend?

Any recommendations on what to do/see?

Hotchocolateandsnowing · 27/11/2025 21:00

Do you ever experience any racism OP?

I work with some polish people and it seems to be a regular basis.

FelineFeasts · 27/11/2025 21:07

As you’ve said already, I guess the grass is always greener etc. But is there anything you genuinely prefer in the UK? Whenever we go to Poland, everything seems better!

Hi OP!

What is Pierogi please?

Happyholidays78 · 27/11/2025 21:14

I was going to ask if you've experienced racism here in the UK.

Also we've had 3 different Polish families live in my street over the years and all 4 of them had 1 child & one parent worked days & the other parent worked nights. So I conclude the Polish are a very hard working bunch. Is there benefits/ a welfare state in Poland?

Yes Marek Piotrowicz is my uncle, thats the game but I can't for the life of me find the newspaper article i was in with him. I actually tried again to look tonight but it seems you have to subscribe now to the archives of the glasgow herald. I was a flower girl in Poland at his wedding 😆 🤣 😂. God it was so long ago. Thank you so much for finding this 💜

I thought he was the goalkeeper...my memory must suck 😆 🤣.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 27/11/2025 21:21

When you go home to visit Poland, do you notice big changes in the economy these days? Apparently Poland will soon have a higher GDP per capita that the U.K.

RealReginaPhalange · 27/11/2025 21:25

@GCAcademic sandwich meat! Fresh one, not the one in packets. I like the ones with no white fatty bit, dry ones, but pick the ones you think look good and i am sure you wont be disappointed. Our pasta is also much better to be honest.

@nomeds aaww thats so nice to hear! Many leave because for example years ago it was easier to make money in UK and build the house in Poland.

@Newsenmum i believes so yes, we are more socially conservative, as long as you dont force your view on us, ask to build synagogues and you respect the way we are we can be really welcoming. There is a fine line to it i am afraid. We are child friendly for sure but dont know if more or not. When i take my two little ones i dont feel it is much much easier there with them than here.

@Odiebay i get that, its overwhelming for me too when i go and visit family😂 calling me as soon as i land if they can put water on for coffee and start warming up lunch and start serving before i ger a chance to take my shoes off😂
i been to krakow like 20 years ago and never went to gdansk so wont be very helpful i am afraid. I am from very not touristy place!

@Hotchocolateandsnowing oh yeah i used to! Was working handing out leaflets in london 17 yrs ago and some people (one nationality actually) could take my hand like its normal i am going to follow and have s*x with them. It was horrible and they were very surprised with my firm “no” reaction 😳 bizarre. Some other people were teaching me how to use a hoover because in the third country like poland we dont have this goods (still boils my blood!), indian people, young cause older generation was always lovely when i was with my now half indian husband🙄 when i introduce myself with a typical indian surname they still give me shocking looks and ask twice, i am white as hell. No racism from british people though

@FelineFeasts i am very home sick lately so hard to answer this. I like the school system better here, any admin stuff you get faster and easier here to be honest, people here are more friendly, we always look and sound unhappy😂

I forgot to add MCDONALD is amazing in poland, much better than here and we always go to treat ourselves there🫣

cosmetic shops have also better variety and options than boots and superdrug together

What is the typical Polish diet like? Is it full of processed meat? What are the popular dishes?
Thanks, OP.
