There’s a lot of negative press and misinformation about benefit claimants so thought I’d start a thread. I work nearly full time and have 2 children. Ask away.

@Differentforgirls So hardly surprising you don't see Netflix as a luxury. Because it is.

And BTW, I am not older than working age. I am 61.

purpleme12 · 22/10/2025 17:57

What did she mean when she said she tutored clowns?

I don't get that

(I know what EOTAS means)

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:58

@Differentforgirls Again, that was an obvious sarcastic reference (edited) to a poster. You live in a world of wealth.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:58

@purpleme12 See above.

purpleme12 · 22/10/2025 18:01

Ok perhaps I'm being stupid but I can't see an answer 'above'

Anyway it doesn't matter.

Then I feel sorry for you that £1.50 a week is seen as a luxury.

cosietea · 22/10/2025 18:02

I am a little shocked by this. I was denied UC 7 years ago when I was working full time earning 24k and 2 kids in full time education ( after school club too) because my earnings were too high and I didn’t qualify

Not a dig at you OP just things have changed a lot

I now earn over double that and thankfully don’t need a top up but was very much in your position a few years ago and single. Things rapidly ramped up financially once my kids were in secondary and I didn’t need after school or holiday clubs, worked from home (IT) and ran up the rungs of the ladder ( and still going)

Plenty of opportunity for you to earn significant money in the future if that’s what you want? What’s your career plan?

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 18:03

@Differentforgirls Netflix is a luxury. End of.

I see luxury as some thing expensive and not netflix. If you see it as a luxury maybe you need to claim benefits. This from someone who is poor.

@NotEnoughKnittingTime It's all relative. What do you see as a luxury and/or expensive? But still preposterous to class Netflix as an essential btw.

Differentforgirls · 22/10/2025 18:08

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 18:03

@Differentforgirls Netflix is a luxury. End of.

To you. Not to the vast majority of the population. I feel sorry for you that you teach pupils with additional needs and refer to them as "clowns", then judge other people. Unfathomable.

It’s not ‘end of’, it’s your opinion not a fact. Something that cheap that provides a useful function isn’t something I would consider a luxury, but it’s also not a necessity. There is an in between. And it makes 0% difference to wether or not someone claims benefits.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 18:09

OK. Who else sees Netflix as an essential?

Not sure what you mean? MN have deleted your post accusing me of being someone I am not and stalking you. I have provided MN with the previous threads about EOTAS/EOTIS we have interacted on.

I guess she must be

Don't understand why someone would say that

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 18:16

@flawlessflipper I trust MN.

Then you will know I am not the person you accused me of being. Hence why your post has been deleted.

I live in a world of wealth? I am working class, raised in a council house, as was my husband. We just have the moral compasses that you obviously don't. I worked for Education for 43 years. He worked in SW for 40. You have no idea what we have seen as a couple. Awful things. Absolutely atrocious, heart breaking stuff. So we don't judge and tbh, I still cant get over you calling children with additional needs "clowns".

Sweetbubblegum · 22/10/2025 18:22

Aside from Netflix there is
Disney
Apple
Prime
Sky movies
Sky sport
TNT

If you subscribe to all of those it soon mounts up. Those that think it is essential, where do you draw the line?
