There’s a lot of negative press and misinformation about benefit claimants so thought I’d start a thread. I work nearly full time and have 2 children. Ask away.

OP posts:

@Differentforgirls School if they are school age and then wraparound. That's how most parents do it? Lots of single parents work.

What if they're not school age?

Differentforgirls · 22/10/2025 17:16

Btw, school isn't childcare. It's education.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:17

@Differentforgirls So let me explain. Unless you know how many hours I work in a week then you can't say how many hours a week I work? And why is it any of your business? How many hours a week do you work? None of my business, especially if you are not on benefits.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:18

@Differentforgirls What are you actually on about? It's time OP doesn't need childcare so can work.

Differentforgirls · 22/10/2025 17:18

Can't believe people think that £5.99 per month is "luxury".

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:20

@Differentforgirls You don't see Netflix as a luxury?!!! Come off it!

I never mentioned weeks and this is like trying to catch smoke. I take it that you don't tutor for an academic subject?

None.

If you do, then you must be as poor as a church mouse. Its £1.50 a week.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:25

How do you pay for your kids then, @Differentforgirls?
No, I just play. No academia involved(!)

It is NOT essential. If you have a tight budget it is just one item you can easily cut back on.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:28

@Sweetbubblegum I agree. But this is coming from a poster who doesn't work and clearly doesn't have any concept of what is essential or otherwise (with respect).

Danikm151 · 22/10/2025 17:31

There are some people who take it as a badge of pride/excuse to have a moan that they can’t claim UC.

Many of those haven’t even checked if they can and may be pleasantly surprised that they can claim a small amount.

When it was working tax credits there wasn’t the stigma associated with UC.

A lot of working and claiming UC are paying NI and Income tax. They are getting a credit on that tax back.

I paid for them by working, but part time while my husband worked full time. Then went back full time when the youngest was in P3. I have never claimed a benefit, but will never judge those who do. I am now retired early, they are adults. I can see you tutor to your strengths.

drspouse · 22/10/2025 17:33

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 15:46

@Differentforgirls I tutor so why are you basing my hours of work on that of a teacher? Silly Billy.
And the point is we receive no benefits.
Unlike the OP.
So not sure what point you are making?

Edited

Do you not think your DC would benefit from swimming lessons, making them less likely to have a drowning accident and therefore less of a burden on the NHS?
I hope that the DLA we claim (even though we are on a higher income) will help our DS to develop into an independent adult (we've spent it on an ADHD assessment, one-to-one swimming lessons, equipment including to help him self-regulate, and parenting coach sessions) and therefore less of a burden on society.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:37

@Differentforgirls And I can see you don't understand sarcasm. I don't imagine you would know what an EOTAS Tutor is or does. It's far from play (but it is an incredible job).
It's a completely different world from a financial pov now than it was when you had children then, assuming you are older than working age if you are now retired?

“Tutoring clowns” is horrific and disgusting phrasing to describe tutoring DC with SEN &/or LAC.

the point is we receive no benefits.

If you claim child benefit, you do receive benefits.

@flawlessflipper Not.you again. I was referring to the poster, obviously.

Not sure what you mean, not you again. This is the first time I have posted on this thread. Posting “I tutor clowns” is still disgusting phrasing when you are tutoring DC with SEN &/or LAC regardless of what you meant.

Err, no I am not. I have been on MN many years under various names. I primarily post on the SEN and SN boards. I have 2 DC with EOTAS/EOTIS and I fact we have spoken under some of my previous names about EOTAS/EOTIS.

everychildmatters · 22/10/2025 17:45

@flawlessflipper So let MN take a look as you are talking utter rubbish.

flawlessflipper · 22/10/2025 17:46

I am not talking rubbish. Bizzare.

I AM RETIRED. I am 6 years away from the state pension. I own a lovely home, am married, have two sons who are professionals and have a private pension, as does my husband. We have substantial savings. I am, and never have been, as judgemental as you. Tbh, I just think you're not that bright.
