Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Oh that sounds amazing I’m so pleased you’re happy. I think I took my tape off after about two weeks and that was it. The nurse changed it once. I’m surprised you have to change it so often

Singletrackmind · 10/10/2023 13:47

Great news @LilyGlobe i had to tape change every 3 days & kept them on for 5 weeks 😂made me feel safer .. just in case they (the boobs) fell off 🤦🏼‍♀️!

Madagascary · 10/10/2023 21:06

I feel I had really strange information about the tapes

Martinisarebetterdirty · 11/10/2023 07:49

I only had mine on for a couple of weeks in total(tapes), my guy said get moisturising the scars asap.
I have to say I like @LilyGlobe ’s surgeon’s approach, loving the sound of lymphatic drainage massage as part of the package!

😂😂 Totally felt like they were going to fall off too

I think my referral has gone through, so hopefully I might get a first appointment soon. Or at least a letter telling me when my appointment is. Been referred to East Grinstead.

RedWineIsFine · 11/10/2023 20:21

Hi all, I need to read the thread back, but I have pre op next week after being on the waiting list for years. I'm trying not to bottle it now at the last hurdle. Can I join you and pick your brains?

Oh and sorry about the crap username, I've been here a very long time but I suspect I'll be quite likely to out myself on this thread, feel free to inbox and check out I'm legit.

Welcome all

do we think Nigella had a boob reduction? I’m sure she used to be bustier

MorrisZapp · 11/10/2023 23:07

Not sure about Nigella but the doyenne of posh baby puree Annabel Karmel had suspiciously high and perkies in a recent MN ad campaign.

Madagascary · 12/10/2023 07:23

I had a really weird experience last night. I’d been trying on dresses for my mum and so unusually. I’ve had a bra on under my pyjamas. Anyway I had a bra on.

And I woke up in the night realising that my bra was still on under my pyjamas. Previously, I would’ve really noticed that but obviously Having a boob job feels like having a bra on all the time. Hope that makes sense

Singletrackmind · 12/10/2023 09:10

Hello & welcome new people! Absolutely ask away, the run up is nerve wracking so hang in there, it will be worth it.

Do I need to Google Nigella now to check out her tits 😂 hard to keep up as she had a really skinny/ lost all of the weight phase a while back … who’d be in the public eye eh.

@Madagascary it does … but I am still actually sleeping in mine cause I don’t want to mess up the new boobs! 😀

RedWineIsFine · 12/10/2023 10:49

Thanks for the welcome, I've noticed there are 2 threads so starting to work through them and will probably have lots of questions.
I'm just scared of going under the knife, but after 20 odd years of pain, physio, not being able to buy a bra on the high street, not being able to wear dresses/wetsuits, rashes, sweat and itching I know it'll be worth it. Bit concerned I'll look fatter mind you as a bit chunky right now but at least one day I'll be able to get a sports bra that works!

Heartfullofcheese · 12/10/2023 12:25

Welcome to the thread(s). Lots of great advice and tips and we are all very happy to help and hand hold.
It’s scary but so so worth it. My life has changed.

That seems to be the resounding opinion, the first time I saw a GP about this was 28 years ago, so you'd think I'd be ready!

thelonghaul · 12/10/2023 15:04

Really helpful thread. Thanks all.

I'm now fully committed as just paid for op in about 10 days (so have managed not to chicken out).

Loving the positive comments (yes it will be worth it!) and useful tips.

Finger crossed but looking forward to no longer feeling like a freak and finding clothes I want to wear and which fit!!

Madagascary · 12/10/2023 17:39

Every. Day. I’m. SOOOO happy I did it.

Singletrackmind · 12/10/2023 18:15

@RedWineIsFine I’m 53 … I probably waited far too long but we all have our reasons & I’m happy now rather than regretful. It’s also helpful to have some of those life events out of the way so that you can focus on you. It is major surgery, you need to be prepared, but there’s a reason the outcomes are overwhelmingly positive.
@thelonghaul counting down then 😀

No this is unfair to yourself. 53 is the perfect age, assuming you're post menopausal.

I'm 52 and my boobs weren't going to change any more. I thought it was the perfect time to finally take the plunge.

Singletrackmind · 12/10/2023 21:50

Aw thx ☺️@MorrisZapp and I agree on the timing … although I had a hysterectomy a few years back, ovaries still there & have had miraculously few meno symptoms (apart from crazy sore boobs- oh the irony) so I’ve no effing idea if I’m actually ‘post’ or not 😂…. I probably am!

Heartfullofcheese · 12/10/2023 22:49

Mid 50s here. One of the surgeons I saw said most fall in to one of two categories. Early 20s and in pain or middle aged and had enough. I feel younger since the op tbh as I look less matronly. It’s so much easier to buy clothes, bras. Everything is easier. They aren’t in the way. I can break into a run without clutching them. I don’t feel like a freak. It’s just better. I feel glad I did it every single day.

Madagascary · 13/10/2023 04:54

I’m 53 too!! Weird

Magpiecomplex · 13/10/2023 18:17

Got a letter from the hospital today and they won't see me until I've lost two stone. I know I need to lose the weight anyway, so I'm not too unhappy. The letter does sound like that's the only reason they won't see me at the moment though.

LilyGlobe · 13/10/2023 21:18

I’ve changed my tape and I’m concerned about the scarring on my left breast. The right one looks incredible but the left just doesn’t look “right”. I’ve had more discomfort in the left breast than the right so it’s concerning me. Husband reckons it’s just healing at a different rate.
I’ve taken photos and I’m going to call the surgeon on Monday. Not sure what he can do, I just want some reassurance I guess!

SummerChilling · 13/10/2023 21:48

Does your bmi have to be below a certain point to have the surgery? It’s something I’ve considered a few times but I keep hoovering at 30BMI as I’m short & 51, despite being quite fit and active.

An operation is more risky when you’re overweight. So yes
