How do you feel about the revelations about Prince Andrew?

DurhamDurham · 10/05/2023 08:06

Different times indeed, I'm 52 Op so the same age as you.
I remember reading about it in the papers, it was front page news on a daily basis for quite some time.
The way it was all reported at the time about 'wild child' 'teenage temptress' made it sound so exciting to a young teen but in reality it was all just so sordid.

My question: Where were your parents in all this? Did they know what you were doing and where you were?

OneFrenchEgg · 10/05/2023 08:08

Gosh I've been reflecting a lot on this. I was a couple of years younger and very envious (Shock) of what looked like a fun, glamorous life style to provincial boring me. It's only as an older adult I've really thought how much was wrong with a lot of the 80s/early 90s and tbh even earlier but I wasn't aware.
How do you feel now versus how you perceived things then?

FannythePinkFlamingo · 10/05/2023 08:10

Coming on to say are you Amanda de Cadenet but see others have already beaten me to it. It all seems so sordid now. I'm 51 and remember thinking how glamorous and exciting it all was back then though.

JaffaCake70 · 10/05/2023 04:53

What did you Make of Mandy's relationship with Bill Wyman? Pretty disgusting don't you think?

Why ask for her opinion and then tell her what it should be?

catsoop · 10/05/2023 08:13

littleblackcat27 · 10/05/2023 07:54

The OP ain't coming back to answer anything!

I know! what was the point?
She was probably gutted when the first reply was "who?"
😂

LakeTiticaca · 10/05/2023 08:14

Ah yes I remember all.this!! The era of the "wild child" girls !! Was it around the early 90s?
Back in the days when I used to read the Sun, they were on the front pages virtually every day
How times have changed

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 10/05/2023 08:15
Hmm
Jonei · 10/05/2023 08:22

It did all seem very glamorous at the time.
A bit sordid looking back on it. Not that it's her fault.

Jonei · 10/05/2023 08:24

She was probably gutted when the first reply was "who?"

Why would she be gutted. It is clear that poster is much younger and thus less likely to know much about it.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 10/05/2023 08:26

Why say AMA then don’t come back to reply?!

FrenchandSaunders · 10/05/2023 08:38

If I remember correctly Mandy smiths mother was quite instrumental in getting her 14 year old daughter with bill wyman. Grim

Why say AMA then don’t come back to reply?!

I think because a few people have been quite rude rather than scroll on by

Showersugar · 10/05/2023 08:48

Come back OP

catsoop · 10/05/2023 08:53

Jonei · 10/05/2023 08:24

Because she might have expected everyone to know who they are & think "wow!"
Just because someone's young doesn't mean they don't know of pop culture that was before their time.
I wasn't around for loads of things but know they were a "thing" at the time.

rookiemere · 10/05/2023 08:56

I'm of the right era and am interested in any revelations, particularly if it is Amanda de Cadanet - she got to marry John Taylor before he started looking like Keith Richards - and before anyone starts they were both over 18.

Pineda · 10/05/2023 09:00

Maybe it seemed like a good idea to start this late last night.

Well presumably she didn't think that everyone would know or even care about it, bearing in mind her second comment referred to the fact that the poster was clearly younger. I doubt there was many people at the time who didn't know the story. It was regular front page news. The same would not be true for younger people looking at what would now be history that they weren't part of.

Tessisme · 10/05/2023 09:13

Mandy Smith was a child of 13 when she met Bill Wyman. Sorry, I don't want to hear about all the jolly japes and gossip when, essentially, this girl was a victim of child abuse. I think your post is in poor taste.

MermaidEyes · 10/05/2023 09:17

Place marking for if OP ever decides to come back. I remember those days well. What a different time it was.

recyclemeagain · 10/05/2023 09:19

Haven't heard the name Amanda de Cadenet in years! OP if that is you then I hope you're well and yes I remember all the headline at the time, your post has jogged my memory.
It's also made me realise how I disliked the girls at the time and thought they were manipulative, cocky and plain weird for getting with old men. On reflection now as an adult, I can hand on heart say I feel awful for ever thinking those things.
I now realise how young they actually were and how twisted the media can be. They were kids themselves.

OneFrenchEgg · 10/05/2023 09:21

@iwaspartofttheset come back, loads of us have questions!

Whatthechicken · 10/05/2023 09:24

I didn’t remember Emma Ridley, so looked her up. It’s her Birthday today, so maybe that caused to OP to be reminiscing?
