I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D.

Crack on with any questions!

Where is the best place to start with researching the surgeon? 🧐

Report
Madagascary · 26/03/2023 17:53

Word of mouth? Realself has reviews.

where are you?

Report
Bigtitsbetty · 26/03/2023 20:02

Realself has reviews but I’m not sure how independent they are. I believe the surgeon has to register to have themselves listed so I don’t know how much say they have over any reviews published or if they can get negative ones removed.

The surgeon you have a consultation with should be able to show you their work with before and after photos.

Thanks, I’ll check out realself but take with a pinch of salt. I’m in South Wales @Madagascary

Maybe. Mine has invited me to submit one. I’m not sure about it.

I’m not saying it’s definitely bias but to
check.

What sort of questions should I be asking for my initial consultation with the surgeon? Any pointers gratefully received.

Report
Bigtitsbetty · 29/03/2023 20:15

Length of stay, drains, stitches, wound healing, their experience, costs, hidden costs, what the cost covers etc

Don’t trust them if they can’t show any photos or if they guarantee to make you a specific size.

Thanks @Bigtitsbetty (you might need a username change now 😉)

I'm seeing an NHS surgeon so I don’t know if they are able to provide before and after pics. I’ll ask of course. If anyone has experience of getting this done through the NHS I’d be most grateful for your insights on how it all worked.

I didn't get pics but I didn't even think of it tbh.

My (NHS) op was on a Sunday morning, the surgeon was very informative and discussed the procedure and sizing etc with me. I can't fault the procedure, the outcome or the care at all.

It is usual to be discharged after one night but I spent 2 as they said I had taken too long to be fully awake - generally making the most of lying in bed and doing nothing more like!

Couldn't drive for 6 weeks, or walk the dog, lift anything heavy. Back up appointment after 8 weeks, in which he informed me it was the single most life changing procedure for women in their late 40s/ early 50s. He was right.

I had mine at UHCW.

I’m not changing my name! Haha

@user80 i forgot you were NHS. I was given a Macom post surgical bra by my surgeon. Check whether you are given one or what you need to buy. You will need two at the very least.

I have a chest infection at the moment and my lungs hurt from coughing so much. I can really feel it on the scars too. Weird.

Gosh that’s weird. I just have one on my cleavage that’s itching. The top of the “smile

It is weird. It’s only when I cough not the rest of the time. TBH most of me hurts when I cough.

@Mumsafan not surprised at all by that comment from the surgeon re. Life changing for women of that (my!)age… but also helps reinforce my belief in my decision so good to hear …. I can’t wait to get this done now, I’m so tired of carrying them around & having to dress ‘around’ them every single effing day.
… mostly pleased though that @Bigtitsbetty ain’t
name changing 😁

That was the instruction from the surgeon so I just did as they said.

*notes down Macom bras…

Really nice to hear that surgeon’s comment. Think we will really struggle with 6 weeks not driving (small people, school, activities…). I feel the same though @Singletrackmind - like I’m in limbo now and cannot WAIT to get this done. Still a bit nervous that the surgeon will tell me I’m not eligible…🤞🏻 as so far all I’ve had is one brief appointment with the GP 🤷🏻‍♀️

@user80 … fingers crossed for you that when you get a consult it goes well. I’m so desperate at the moment with the whole swollen boobs thing (I cannot get comfortable/ nothing fits & I just look awful) that I’m considering re-looking at my dates.

After ten days. 6 weeks is unheard of. You might want to check that !!

I can’t remember how long I had off from driving. I was back at work after 4 weeks so definitely before that.

Saw a thread about FF bras. So want to storm in shout “breast reduction!” But obv won’t. 😤

Guys, I have loads of news. My five month final sign off appointment and everything was great.

He had all the photos from my first appointment and I simply can’t believe the size of them and also, and I never noticed this at the time, they were so lopsided my right boob was a lot bigger than my left boob and I got to the age of 50+ and I’ve never noticed this before!!

Anyway, he’s very pleased with me, the liposuction scar he says is stretched a bit because I’ve been doing a lo, he offered to redo it, but I can’t see the point.

It’s only going to be if someone is really close and my arm which hopefully not many people are!

if anyone needs a surgeon in central south England, let me know.

user80 · 06/04/2023 21:54

That’s brilliant @Madagascary 🙌🏻 Hilarious that you never noticed the lopsidedness 😂 but not a problem any more!
