Happy to answer any questions, especially about the surgery etc

Definitely a thread I would have found comfort in when I was going through the worst time so hopefully it can help another mother Smile

You are both so brave. Luckily today he has many people he can look to and Ben inspired by who have prosthetic limbs. I n fact it’s orettu damn cool

Look into The Richard Whitehead Foundation. Charity set up by Richard Whitehead, 2 time Paralympic gold medalist who is a bilateral above knee amputee. Charity aims to provide sporting opportunities to those with disabilities and has provided running blades to a number of amputees of all ages including young children.
OP you and Ollie both sound absolutely fabulous.

As a fellow BKA I can confirm that he'll be grand. If you have any questions regarding Prosthetics, timings, what to expect from clinics, etc, feel free to pm me. Good luck 🦖

OldFan · 24/07/2022 17:10

Aw such a shame he had an infection that set him back. Please keep us updated as to how he gets on with his new leg or in general @FHmama xxx

Hi everyone.
Thankyou so much for all of your lovely comments!

He got his leg yesterday. He's now decided he hates it 😅 but I am hoping he'll soon get used to it.

Thanks again for your support xx

Oh bless him , I'm sure he will get used to it . Make sure is safe from any 🦖

BigFatLiar · 03/08/2022 12:29

Just keep him away from dinosaurs

MargaretThursday · 03/08/2022 15:49

Let him put stickers and things on it. Give him chances to wear it where he can see how it will help.
Don't push it in hot weather as it will get uncomfortable and sweaty.

The first legs are often more cumbersome than helpful for little ones, but as he gets older then it will help.

He may be too young but you may find watching paralytic footage with people with legs like him helps too.

BruisedSkies · 03/08/2022 15:56

Cute little leg! Have you heard of a charity called Limb Power? They run events for little ones to do sport. For when he’s a bit older.

urrrgh46 · 03/08/2022 16:09

@FHmama I don't have a question but I do have a friend who's little girl (now quite big!) has the same thing as your little boy. Said daughter is now nearly 12 and does horse riding (watch out for her as a further paraolympian), rides a two wheeler bike (did this from normal age for riding a bike), swims like a fish - basically does everything and anything she wants!! Good luck and I'm sure your little boy will get used to his leg soon 😃

FHmama · 29/09/2022 21:56

Hi all,

Just thought I'd update you! Ollie took his first steps on the end of August and is now walking around everywhere. He is loving his new found freedom and always says 'no more pram mama, I walk!' So today we went to the shop without the pram for the first ever time. May have taken 30 minutes for a 5 minute walk 😁 but so worth it!

Thankyou for all your kind words.

This is so lovely to hear, what a smashing little boy! X

Hodgewell1 · 29/09/2022 22:04

So pleased he has got mobility and independence from his prosthetic leg. What a brave and impressive boy. I would be so proud to have a son like that.
