NC for this as I remained anonymous, which was fairly pointless as I did tell some family and friends and it spread from there.

Why did it take 2 months to get the money?
Did they offer you a chunk of it straight away while you were waiting for the private account to be set up? I heard that's something they can do. Congratulations though, this thread is fascinating and I'm desperately jealous! Most I've ever won with the NT was 100 quid just before Christmas. It literally saved Christmas for us. 14 mil must be a complete dream! I'd be happy with 14 quid right now! 🤣

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 18:20

@bendmeoverbackwards

Do you still do the lottery?? Grin
If its over 100 miilion!

How do we know you’re not making this all up?

TheSpottedZebra · 15/06/2021 18:21

@Dunnesstores

Why would you buy 50 mulberry bags, I love good bags but that many just seems excessive and pointless. Why would you rather have almost 14 million sitting in your bank than helping out the people you are close to?
Because giving money to people changes things. It changes everything!
Jumpingintosummer · 15/06/2021 18:21

Can I ask why it takes so long to receive the money? Do they give you an advance?

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 18:22

@Sometimesfraught82

Really interested to find out about impact on children and whether you changed schools
I've tried to keep life as normal as possible for my son and yes I did change schools but we moved so ultimately had to

@TheWomanInTheIronedMask

I have a question! How do we know you're not totally making all this up? Grin
I very well could be BSing but that would be kind of sad.

The lotto has made thousands of millionaires and high money winners, likeliness is you probably know someone who has won.

Guy I know also won around 5 million recently and had turned really paranoid about everyone and everything he has become quite arrogant, did it affect you like that?

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 18:25

@Jumpingintosummer

How much interest do you earn a year?
Less than 65k, the interest on my account is very low

Are you really fit and well groomed? I've always thought that if I had money for a personal trainer, swimming pool, chef/fancy healthy food, posh creams and regular hairdressers I'd be all svelte and look a million times better than I do....or maybe I'd still be fat and lazy just with a few more handbags to fill with pringles?

YellowFish12 · 15/06/2021 18:29

What was the first country you visited with your son after the win? Who chose the dictation? I think you said you didn't go on foreign holidays before due to money.

I wouldn't tell ANYONE if I had a significant win. Quite easy to obstruficate your circumstances with money especially if you move areas. You can be vague and say some inheritance, some business interests.

CatAndHisKit · 15/06/2021 18:29

Hi OP,
I'm really interested in 'what are the chances' aspect. You say you played over a decade but regularly - how regularly? Every week?
Was it Lotto only or did you play various games alternately?

Did you think or even 'knew' you'll win?

Interesting re looking for your dream house online for ages - very much 'the law of attarction' pronciple.

Last one, haev you moved to a really upmarket area, and are you happy there as the neighbours could be snobs in these?

Thank you!

LopsidedWombat · 15/06/2021 18:29

Good for you, what a lovely stroke of luck!

Have any of your decisions surprised you? For example, in my mind if I ever won a huge amount of money I'd want to buy several of my struggling friends a property, a car and maybe a holiday. But I wonder if in reality it opens a Pandoras box and you end up having to limit your generosity and do things differently to how you might imagine?

And how about boundaries? Is it really difficult to not throw money at other people's problems?

susiebluebell · 15/06/2021 18:29

What do you tell people you do for a living?? Grin

CatAndHisKit · 15/06/2021 18:30

And wow that's a real win, no messing! Grin Congrats and well done for keeping grounded, I admire that.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 15/06/2021 18:33

I also wonder why it takes so long to recieve the money. You had to wait 2 months to be able to spend it?

ItsAllKindaWeird · 15/06/2021 18:34

congrats, I'm totally envious and have a loooong list in my "if i won the lottery" book of wishes!
My question is...... Whats the one thing you bought/spent on that you wish you hadn't?

feelingfree17 · 15/06/2021 18:34

Lovely story!
Can I ask, did you win with a single line ticket?

Triffid1 · 15/06/2021 18:35

When you say family expected you too provide for them totally, what did this mean? If I won 14mn it would be tricky because I'd give big lump sums to immediate family but it wouldn't be enough to do the same for everyone. So it would be tricky if everyone expected £1mn. But then, I've heard people say that if they won the lottery they might buy their siblings a car or something and I just can't imagine not doing more? But then (see, I've thought about this a lot Grin ) I also worry that people would expect me to share it pretty much equally with them,

What did you find were people's actual expectations?

pilates · 15/06/2021 18:38

How old are you?

shdodnbek · 15/06/2021 18:39

Congratulations! It sounds like you have done a lovely job with your money and made a great life for you and your son.

(I am a bit jealous but that's ok- who wouldn't be!! Grin)

MaloInAnAppleTree · 15/06/2021 18:40

A private bank for those who asked is one which is specially geared up to the needs of high net worth individuals and will give them specialist advice and services, for a price.

lalafafa · 15/06/2021 18:40

I'm really surprised it took 2 months to get the money, why?
Congratulations BTW, you sound very sensible.

Flippanty · 15/06/2021 18:40

Did it seem to good to be true to begin with? Were you expecting some kind of catch?

HollowTalk · 15/06/2021 18:41

Roughly how much did you spend on your house? How amazing was it to be able to choose whichever house you wanted?

How do your new friends think you can afford not to work?
