I deliver for Amazon

Amazon often gets a hard time on MN, tbf it’s not the easiest place to work but needs must.
I shall try to answer your questions best I can Wink

No question from me, but I get parcels delivered to my home and work and everyone of the drivers are great. They know my house and where to leave my parcels, and at work we're familiar with the drivers and they know my name. We have a lady deliver and she’s fabulous 👌🏻

FTEngineerM · 26/01/2021 19:57

Between my and my partner we had a parcel delivered every other day for 4 months straight.

I rarely see the driver they leave it on my doorstep and scurry off when they hear me faffing about with dependents (dogs and babies) inside.

I never even get a chance to say thanks.

Sometimes they’re piled really high by my back door at Christmas, if we’ve had a good Amazon shesh Grin.

No questions, just thank you, to you and all the other drivers I haven’t even caught a glimpse of.

Esse321 · 26/01/2021 19:57

What did you do for a living before this?

LastStarFighter · 26/01/2021 20:02

How do you find houses that are just a house name and village (like “The Schoolhouse, Townsville, Postcode”). Do you just know places really well, like London taxi drivers with The Knowledge?

How is everyone except me tracking deliveries and leaving feedback? I don’t seem to have either of those functions in the app 😅

SilenceIsNoLongerSuspicious · 26/01/2021 20:02

What’s a good safe place from your point of view? We have a known local doorstep thief, so in plain sight is a problem, but in the bin is also a problem as I’ve had the bin men take it, and even if they don’t, I can’t reach the bottom and have to manhandle it upside down to tip the parcel out! I have a tiny front garden, which doesn’t help.

MadisonMontgomery · 26/01/2021 20:04

Is there any way to get drivers to leave parcels in the designated safe place? I have one set but recently the drivers keep dumping parcels on my front doorstep, and I have had to get refunds on two as it was raining & they got ruined.

AliMonkey · 26/01/2021 20:04

Shocked by you saying “a thank you makes my day” because it would never occur to me not to say thank you even though I’m often shouting it at their retreating back. Do people really generally not say it?!

Do you get a different route every day? Only we get a lot of deliveries (pretty much every day pre-Christmas!) and rarely see same Amazon person twice yet if it’s Hermes or Royal Mail or UPS it’s nearly always same person (ie three regulars, one each).

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 20:11

@LastStarFighter
The route is plotted using geospots with your postcode and if you’ve previously had a parcel all that data is used, we don’t tend to get a set area, it shifts about every 4/5 weeks.

@MadisonMontgomery
What is your safe place? obviously some drivers do ignore
Our weather bags only fit shoebox sized boxes but nothing should be left on a doorstep unless you specify.
Often we get leave in shed and gate or shed is locked!

blablablah · 26/01/2021 20:16

I shall make sure I thank you loudly next time.

Would you accept a can of Pepsi max if I left it on the doorstep and a note to help yourself?

Duggeehugs82 · 26/01/2021 20:16

No question just a thank u for doung ur job, ive used Amazon quite a lot over lasy year and so greteful

LazyFace · 26/01/2021 20:23
@Bettydot
The warehouse has strict covid rules, we have a temp check every day, must remain in your van until it’s your turn to load, mask at all times.
They even have someone with a 2m pole with huge hands 2m wide walking about shouting Grin
You've clearly been to a different warehouse from me.... no temp checks, crowding, no SD and a fair few people not wearing masks when managers weren't around.

Shrillharridan · 26/01/2021 20:24

I 💜 you

MoominWoomin · 26/01/2021 20:35

Twice I have had empty parcels delivered recently, an empty box and an empty envelope (the envelope was supposed to be an item that would have fit in a shoe box sized box 😳) I got refunded but is this something that commonly happens? And if you can tell it is an empty parcel do you still have to deliver it?

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 20:35

@blablablah
Yes a can of pepsi is very kind.
@AliMonkey
We often get a similar area but not a set route, it would be good if we did.

OP posts:
CourierLass · 26/01/2021 20:38

@MoominWoomin
Often I have a parcel that feels as if it’s empty but if it’s sealed we deliver as we don’t know if it’s got something in it or not.
It’s rare that I’d know it was empty. 99% of packages are intact.

MoominWoomin · 26/01/2021 20:42

Thank you for answering my question, one last one. Do you ever have customers claim they never received their parcel and you just know they are lying? (I know someone who done this when the parcel got left on their doorstep and I thought it was awful)

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 26/01/2021 20:42

Do you have a really good sense of direction? I get lost even with a sat Nav 😆

bellinisurge · 26/01/2021 20:45

Thank you

TessTackle · 26/01/2021 20:51

This thread has just made me go through my emails and give big thumbs up to all my deliveries (embarrassing amount)

Definitely going to leave out a treat for the next driver, such a nice idea.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 26/01/2021 21:06

Thank you for all you do, it is appreciated!

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 21:07

@MoominWoomin
I wouldn’t know if someone done that as we don’t get told.
I appreciate all the kind words on here, the biggest help would be a nominated safe location for your parcel as it makes our job a million times easier 😄

OP posts:
tinkerbellsays · 26/01/2021 21:08

What do you do if your busting for a wee? Might be against the rules but I'd always let you in for a wee if needed!

LetMeBubble · 26/01/2021 21:16

Tinker there is always the funnel and bottle
In the van .. I would assume it is quite difficult
For anyone entering homes these days. Sadly

Thank you OP for what you do. Sounds like
Really Hard work

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 21:16

@tinkerbellsays
