I still hear so many daft claims about certain aspects of living in KSA. Happy to confirm or deny what you've been told!

the people on this thread who think they are taking the moral highground are showing exactly the same inflexibility as the those who enforce the horrific laws in KSA.

Yes, dear. That's a perfectly sane comparison to make.

MontyBowJangles · 29/04/2019 18:56

Not read all of the thread, just the first couple of pages and now the last.

I went on to Google Maps to look where Jeddah and Riyadh actually were ... and saw there is somewhere called Yanbu ! Grin

That is all...as you were...

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 19:13

If you think punishment and hard line stances will work you're in good company with the likes of North Korea's, KSAs and lots of other lovely leaders

Who thinks people should be punished for working in KSA @Smumzo ?

I am aware the Saudis will change when they want to. I, and many others, wouldn't work their because of my moral compass. I want to show solidarity with the people being persecuted and let them know I will not support a regime that acts as the KSA does.

As has been said by many posters with differing views you draw your own line and others draw theirs.

So the torture happens actually IN police stations? Which ones?
You are very literal, perhaps that is why you are able to compartmentalise so well. Personally, if I was in the KSA and i drove past a police station I would wonder. I would question myself and ask if that is where it was happening. Being aware that the torture occurs it would bother me if I was working with someone, eating with someone, chatting to someone who did this for a living.

I may not know exactly when or where the torture, show trials, executions and desecration of bodies occurred but I would know the taxes I paid supported it. I would know the country allows and condones it. And I would question myself about the details.

It would play on my mind as I find it so utterly horrific.

You seem able to express horror and disassociate yourself from any connection. But you are connected because you live in a country where this happens and you support, condone and promote this country.

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 19:14

my moral compass

The my should be our own.

SeaEagleFeather · 29/04/2019 19:31

Fine to have your own moral compass

Less fine to start stuffing it down other peoples' throats, to twist and obfusticate and bullshit.

A great deal of dishonesty on this thread from the moral National Front

Orchidflower1 · 29/04/2019 19:36

The thing is everyone the OP made and AMA thread so people could ask her anything. Lots of people have asked questions and op has answered.

However some people are asking the same niggling questions over and over again regard her morals. Those of us who have followed the thread throughout have heard your questions. The op has answered and her answers will not change despite you nagging for something different. I politely suggest that if you’re not happy with the answers- just don’t read the thread.

It’s been really interesting finding out about somewhere different and it’s such a shame people are derailing the thread with wailing morals. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but you don’t need to bash someone over and over again ( the irony ) to make them say what you want.

Ok as you were . I shall now climb down off my not quite so high horse.

Shmithecat2 · 29/04/2019 19:37

As has been said by many posters with differing views you draw yourownline and others draw theirs.

But you can't leave it there can you? Do you think by continually repeating and bleating on about what your seemingly paranoid and very overactive imagination conjures up (not sure what circles you move in but I tend to socialise with fellow trailing spouses and their families, all of whom work normal jobs Confused), that I'll either admit I don't give a shit about human rights, or concur that you've 'woke' me and that I'll leave the country immediately? Because neither are going to happen. 🤷‍♀️

Orchidflower1 · 29/04/2019 19:37

Sorry seaeagle but if a x post but I’m a slow typer!

Orchidflower1 · 29/04/2019 19:38

Honestly bit not but - sorry !!!
And x post op!!
Must type faster!!

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 19:59

bleating on about what your seemingly paranoid and very overactive imagination conjures up

God if only I was bleating, if only it was my imagination...

This is real. The torture, persecution and degradation is not made up by my "overactive imagination". I think it is very telling that it is clear you think I am making this up. I can link to the AI and HRW reports the U.N. has commented as well. Are they making it up to?

Human beings are being killed after they have been tortured their bodies are then desecrated. Is that over emotional bleating or a simple statement of fact?

This is happening in a country you live in.

Nothing, paranoid or made up. Just facts.

And yes I will continue to bleat about human rights. Nothing I am ashamed.

Smotheroffive · 29/04/2019 19:59

Thanks for the list. I will.

Your sacasm and defensiveness and rudeness are quite something considering you welcomed allcomers questions about a life in a shit regime, where you can only be true to your western values behind walls, hiding your real lives.

Yes it did help, but I don't believe it was your intention at all. Just rude actually.

And this...

^then I'll be telling them how to behave to avoid such arrests, so, yes, because we want to earn loadsa money and escape tax, we will even shut down our DCs right to be gay and rthem being stoned to death, should their behaviour 'slip', but its fine to live their lives in fear of that.

You really said that.

I could not put my child at such risk. Having come so far forward in terms of acceptance by society and understanding in the UK/west, how is it in any way acceptable to force a DC to live this way, oh because daddy's job (as there are no alternate options only his decision of job which all our lives must revolve around)

If this situation arose your DC could feel suicidal, have no recourse in school, or support service or support groups and would live continually at risk.

We see your priorities.

No sarcasm, no rudeness, no slagging off, just genuine comment, which you invited.

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 20:03

@Orchidflower1

despite you nagging

Do you really think commenting on human rights abuses is nagging?

Nagging is how women are dismissed for asking men to put their socks in the laundry basket.

We are discussing persecution and death.

Yes I will continue to 'nag' as I happen to believe human rights are worth 'nagging' about, you clearly don't.

Smotheroffive · 29/04/2019 20:18

AMA means asking all the questions OP wants you to ask about her amazing life ignoring realities of the regime outside the walls.

If you do not you must be a sock-puppet, and you will be answered with rudeness and sarcasm such as 'HTH' or shut down with misogynistic terms such as 'hysteria', 'calm down', 'stop nagging'.

Poor show.

SeaEagleFeather · 29/04/2019 20:32

Much like the OP is a paid shill, right?

Orchidflower1 · 29/04/2019 20:36

Windows
Nagging, badgering, relentless nit picking, goading - call it what you will.

I’m not disputing the human rights nor is the op. Not once has she condoned it.

However, the constant getting at the op will not miraculously change Saudi nor will it make her up sticks for Blighty. All I was saying was the constant getting at her is draining, repetitive and ruining the thread.

Wanted the persistent banner waving to stop does not mean I care less it just means it disrupting the flow of the thread. She’s not going to change her plans - your not going to change your mind , please can we move on.

OP in the theme of the thread- do you get air fare paid for an annual visit home? Dn went to a Far East country and she got one flight a year paid for by the company to go home.

Shmithecat2 · 29/04/2019 20:48

@Smotheroffive

No, no, I really didn't say that. But if that's what you read, the fine 🤷‍♀️

You seem a bit angry. Are you ok?

Smotheroffive · 29/04/2019 20:53

I cut and paste. So that is what you said.

You are so disingenuous and sarcastic, still.

Shmithecat2 · 29/04/2019 20:54

@Orchidflower1

We get 2 return flights home each a year paid for. Club, which is a real treat.

It really depends what you prioritise doesn't it. You prioritise a nice thread chatting about cats and shopping.

Strange as it may seem I prioritise human life. I also am concerned about human dignity and freedom from oppression and torture.

I am aware the OP will not change her mind not least because she thinks what I am posting about is bleating on about what your seemingly paranoid and very overactive imagination conjures up.

Don't you find it concerning that human rights abuses are dismissed as figments of my imagination?

findingmyfeet12 · 29/04/2019 21:01

I haven't read every comment but I can understand being tempted by the salary.

I'm not a very sociable person and don't go out a lot so life on the compound sounds ok to me.

For the people mentioning human rights abuses - did you all move away from Britain during the Iraq war or will you be moving away soon due to our involvement in the arms trade?

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 21:01

You're as demented as Windows

That's right concern for human life and a wish to highlight human rights abuses in one of the worlds top ten countries for torture is "demented".

Happy to be demented if that aligns me with other posters concerned for the right to life and freedom from torture.

Orchidflower1 · 29/04/2019 21:06

Windows
I’ve never said that humans rights issues are a figment if your imagination I feel it’s an important point. Which you have made.

Op
Club class twice is very nice. My dbr travels a lot with work but he only gets club over 12hour flights. Dn (as mentioned before ) got one flight but I’m not sure what standard.
Weirdly as someone who is flight phobic I find travel and weird and wonderful places fascinating. Granted not everywhere I’d want to visit but I must get past this flying thing!

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 21:07

@findingmyfeet12

The difference is choosing to live in the country. Lots of brave Saudi men and women in the KSA object to the regime, it is their country and they stay and fight to change it. I have nothing but admiration for the Saudis fighting for their rights and freedom from oppression.

The OP has made a conscious decision to live and work there. The OP was not born into the system she has chosen to join it and support it. With all the information we have about the HR abuses she has purposefully chosen to support the regime by paying tax and living there. Big difference.

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/04/2019 21:11

@Orchidflower1 no you didn't say I was imagining the HR abuses but the OP posted this:

But you can't leave it there can you? Do you think by continually repeating and bleating on about what your seemingly paranoid and very overactive imagination conjures up

The OP is clearly under the impression the persecution, torture, beheading and desecration is something I have created to derail the thread.

But don't worry someone will ask about the restaurants in a minute and you can ignore my 'nagging' about the dignity of human life.
