LOOKFANTASTIC 12 Days of K-Beauty Advent Calendar 2026 review: “Santa’s less festive, more minimalist sack”

My first thought when this arrived was, “Erm… it’s in a bag?” Two weeks later, the viral skincare and useful reusable sack have won me over, although traditional Advent calendar fans may still wonder where all the doors have gone.

My rating:
What I like
  • Excellent value at £50

  • Seven full-sized products

  • Recognisable K-beauty names including Laneige, Medicube and Beauty of Joseon

  • Reusable bag rather than an enormous cardboard box

  • A strong mix of hydration, barrier care, exfoliation and SPF

What I don't like
  • It doesn’t look remotely festive

  • Rummaging for the correct numbered box can get annoying

  • The internal boxes aren’t sturdy enough for long-term storage

My verdict

The LOOKFANTASTIC 12 Days of K-Beauty Advent Calendar is a curious little thing. It has no doors, barely any Christmas spirit and arrives in what can only be described as a reusable shopping bag filled with subtly numbered boxes. It gives "goodie bag" more than "calendar". My first response was less festive delight and more, “Erm… it’s in a bag?”

Once I got over that, the idea started to make sense. The bag is compact, reusable and practical. I can see it becoming a fruit-and-veg bag for the weekly shop, which is more useful than another vast beauty calendar box waiting guiltily beside the recycling bin. The smaller cardboard boxes inside can be recycled or handed over for craft projects.

The rummaging is a mixed blessing. Hunting through the bag has a touch of Santa’s sack about it, albeit Santa’s less festive, more minimalist sack. It’s quite fun until the number you need hides at the bottom.

The 'calendar' arrives in a reusable bag rather than a single big box

The contents are where this calendar earns its four stars from me. It costs £50 and includes 13 products from 12 K-beauty brands, with seven described by LOOKFANTASTIC as full size. Laneige, Medicube, Beauty of Joseon, Biodance and Anua bring some reassuringly familiar names, while brands such as Isntree, Aromatica and SKIN1004 offer something new to discover.

My three standouts are the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, Biodance Bio Collagen Real Deep Sheet Mask and Medicube Zero Pore Pads. The Laneige mask is cooling and watery, absorbs quickly and left my dry skin feeling great the following morning. The Biodance mask stayed comfortably in place for three hours and left my complexion feeling hydrated, plumper and brighter. Admittedly, I barely moved because I was glued to Sarah J Maas’s Throne of Glass, but that still counts as a successful Saturday evening.

I’ve only used the Medicube pads a couple of times so far, so I’m not claiming a pore-related miracle. They have been comfortable on my dry, sensitive skin and are an easy way to introduce exfoliating acids cautiously. I’ll be keeping them away from the Beauty of Joseon retinal serum on the same evening, because ingredient stacking isn’t a habit I need to develop.

The bag has a red LF label, and inside, the boxes are packed in tightly

Most of the rest is skincare, which suits me. My skin is dry and sensitive, with some redness, pigmentation and emerging fine lines. Hydrating serums, barrier creams and gentle cleansers have a much better chance of joining my routine than a drawer full of adventurous make-up shades.

There are compromises, though. The 10ml Laneige mask feels mean once you realise how lovely it is, the Tocobo balm is too coloured for my everyday taste and the bag isn’t going to satisfy anybody who wants a decorative calendar on the mantelpiece.

Even so, £50 feels very reasonable for this selection. It’s an affordable introduction for K-beauty beginners and still has enough familiar favourites and newer discoveries for existing fans.

How I’ve tested the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar

I’ve had the calendar for two weeks. I assessed the bag, numbered boxes, product sizes, selection and value, and have tested the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, Biodance sheet mask and Medicube pore pads on my dry, sensitive skin.

Products I’ve not yet used, including the Anua SPF and Aromatica scalp scrub, are discussed according to their format, ingredients and likely place in my existing routine, not as firsthand results.

What’s inside the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar?

While this is a 12-day calendar, the calendar does contain 13 products in total. The two Innisfree minis share one numbered box, which explains the maths.

My top picks from the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar

1. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I’ve recently been using Gatineau night cream, but the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask has swiftly elbowed its way into that slot. The cooling, water-gel texture feels lovely on dry skin, absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave my face stuck to the pillow. My skin felt comfortable and properly hydrated the next morning. I’m already fond of water-based skincare, particularly Belif, and this has a similar fresh, uncomplicated appeal. My complaint is simple: 10ml isn’t enough.

2. Biodance Bio Collagen Real Deep Sheet Mask

I love a sheet mask and this is already a personal favourite. It needs far longer than the usual 15-minute treatment, but three hours on an evening is perfectly manageable with a good book. Mine stayed put without slipping or dripping, although I was so absorbed in Throne of Glass that I barely moved. Afterwards, my skin felt soothed and deeply hydrated, and looked plumper and brighter.

3. Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0

These dual-sided exfoliating pads are one of the calendar’s viral headline products and the full-size tub feels generous. I’ve only used them a couple of times, carefully, because acids are new territory for my dry, sensitive skin. So far there has been no unwelcome drama. I’ll use them sparingly and avoid combining them with the Beauty of Joseon retinal eye serum in the same routine.

The products I’m keen to try next

The Anua SPF is waiting patiently for me to finish my current sunscreen. A moisturising SPF 50 with no promised white cast sounds well suited to dry skin and far more useful than a festive novelty. I’m also curious about the Beauty of Joseon eye serum, although retinal is new to me. I’ll patch-test it and introduce it slowly in the evening rather than launching into daily use around an already sensitive eye area.

My least useful products

The Tocobo Glass Tinted Lip Balm is the least natural fit for my routine. I rarely wear coloured lip products unless I’m doing a full make-up look, so a sheer tangerine-red balm is unlikely to become an everyday handbag essential.

I’m also fairly indifferent to the two Innisfree minis. They aren’t bad inclusions and pairing products from the same green-tea range in one box is logical. I simply know less about the brand and already have plenty of hydrating products competing for space. They’ll need to work harder to become memorable, TBH.

First impressions of the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar

This isn’t a traditional Advent calendar. There’s no rigid outer case and no neat line of doors. Instead, 12 subtly numbered silver boxes sit inside a neutral bag. It’s about the size of a child’s swimming bag packed with a towel or a modest bag of shopping, so storage is refreshingly painless.

Festive it’s not. Silver is arguably a Christmas colour, but without context nobody would look at this and think ‘Advent calendar’. That seems partly deliberate, though. The whole thing is pared back and low-fuss, with much less packaging than the furniture-sized calendars that arrive.

The bag is the best bit of the presentation. It’s sturdy enough to reuse for shopping, swimming kit or general household hauling. The individual boxes are flimsier and better suited to recycling or children’s craft projects than long-term storage.

Finding the correct box involves rummaging. Sometimes that is fun and gives the countdown a lucky-dip feel. Sometimes the number is hiding and you wonder whether doors were such a bad invention after all…

How many full-size products are in the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar?

LOOKFANTASTIC lists seven of the 13 products as full size: the Anua SPF, SKIN1004 ampoule, Medicube pore pads, Biodance mask, Beauty of Joseon eye serum, Tocobo lip balm and Isntree firming cream.

That feels fair in a £50, 12-day calendar. I would be far less charitable about six minis in a 24-day edition, but here the balance works. The full sizes include several of the most valuable and interesting products, while the smaller formats are useful for discovering brands without committing to another full jar.

Are there any fragrances in the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar?

No. This is a skincare-led calendar with one scalp treatment and one tinted lip balm. There’s no perfume, body mist or home fragrance hiding in the bag.

What about the make-up shades?

The Tocobo Glass Tinted Lip Balm in Tangerine Red is the only colour product. It gives a sheer, glossy wash rather than full lipstick coverage, but it’s still a specific warm shade and won’t suit every complexion or make-up routine. Everything else is shade-free skincare.

What hair products are inside the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar?

The Aromatica Rosemary Scalp Scrub is the sole hair and scalp product. My scalp is usually fairly normal but can become dry and flaky, and I regularly use heat protection and anti-frizz styling products on my thick, curly hair. A clarifying scalp treatment could therefore be useful, but I’ve not tested it yet and won’t claim otherwise.

Is the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar good value?

At £50 for 13 products, the calendar costs roughly £3.85 per product or £4.17 per numbered day. Seven items are listed as full size, and the £28 Isntree cream alone represents more than half the purchase price.

There’s a small wrinkle in the headline maths. LOOKFANTASTIC says the calendar is worth over £140, but the individual values printed on the calendar’s product page add up to £139.80. That is effectively £140 in ordinary conversation, but not technically over it. The saving is still substantial; it simply doesn’t need an extra 20p of marketing flourish…

Up close, the boxes have a brushed metallic finish and tonal embossed numbers, which are subtle but easy to read

For me, the value is convincing because the calendar contains useful everyday categories rather than decorative filler. Even the products that don’t excite me are usable skincare, and £50 is a realistic gifting price compared with the three-figure calendars now jostling for attention.

Who should buy the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar?

This is best for K-beauty newcomers, existing fans who want a mixture of recognisable and less familiar brands, teenagers building a skincare routine and skincare obsessives who care more about the contents than a grand reveal.

It also makes a genuinely good £50 beauty gift. The bag is easy to wrap, the products feel current and the recipient doesn’t need a dressing table the size of a dining table to accommodate it.

Luxury-calendar fans and anybody wedded to traditional doors should look elsewhere. The presentation is deliberately minimal and the rummaging won’t feel magical to everyone.

Final verdict: is the LOOKFANTASTIC K-Beauty Advent Calendar worth £50?

Yes, with one sizeable caveat: this is more Advent sack than Advent calendar.

The presentation is neutral, unfestive and mildly annoying when the correct numbered box vanishes to the bottom. The cardboard boxes aren’t particularly sturdy, several products are miniatures and Laneige fans may feel personally wronged by the 10ml sleeping mask.

Still, the contents are excellent for the money. Laneige, Biodance and Medicube have already earned their places in my routine, while Anua, Beauty of Joseon, SKIN1004 and Isntree give me plenty left to explore. The reusable bag also has a much more convincing second life than most elaborate calendar packaging.

For K-beauty beginners, existing fans or anybody needing a good affordable beauty gift, it’s an easy recommendation.
