How I tested

I put the Cosi Home Luxury Faux Fur Heated Throw through its paces in my home over the course of two months during autumn. I tested the heated blanket's heat distribution, warmth and comfort on the sofa, in bed and at my WFH desk. To get an objective view of the throw's quality and performance, I used an infrared thermometer gun to measure temperature, and washed the throw according the manufacturer instructions, taking note of how soft the fabric was before and after machine washing. Finally, I cross-compared the heated throw with similar products, like the Dreamland Alaskan Husky Heated Throw and the Mia&Coco Heated Blanket.

My verdict

The standout feature of this heated throw is how incredibly soft it is. The two sides are made from slightly different fabrics - one is microfleece and the other faux fur - and both are so cosy and comfortable against my skin. The wires are barely perceptible under this high-quality fabric, and after machine washing, I'm pleased to report that it's only a tiny fraction less soft and silky.

With nine heat settings and a one- to nine-hour timer, it has a great range of settings, so you can get the temperature and duration just right. The controls are intuitive to use and easy to unclip from the blanket for washing or when not in use.

The Cosi Home Luxury Faux Fur Heated Throw is slightly bigger than other similarly-priced throws, like the Mia&Coco - at 130x160cm the Cosi Home is 10cm wider. However, the wires and therefore the warmth don't reach all the way to the edges of the blanket, so the heat is concentrated in the centre.

Overall, I was really impressed with this heated throw - it's larger than other budget options, with straightforward controls and a wide range of heat and time settings. But it's the amazing softness of the fabric that really sets this heated throw apart.

How warm is the Cosi Home® Luxury Faux Fur Heated Throw?

Using an infrared thermometer gun, I measured the temperature of the heated throw on its highest setting at 10, 30 and 60 minutes.

After 10 minutes heating up time, the blanket had reached a cosy 32°C, and after 60 minutes on heat setting 9, it was a balmy 40.5°C under the blanket - more than cosy enough for even the coldest room.

Personally, I found the higher heat settings that bit too warm for my liking. My most-used setting is heat level 6 for 2 hours, draped over my duvet when I get into bed. It warms me up beautifully but switches off automatically before I'm in a deep sleep, so I don't overheat.

Can the Cosi Home® Luxury Faux Fur Heated Throw be washed?

Yes, it can. I washed the throw on a delicate cycle with half a non-bio laundry sheet for this review, and it dried quickly (with the help of my dehumidifier) and is still incredibly soft after being washed. It's a tiny, tiny bit less soft - no fabric is ever the same after that first wash - but it's still the softest heated throw I've tested by a country mile.

Is the Cosi Home® Luxury Faux Fur Heated Throw good value for money?

It's very good value for money. At the time of writing, this throw is just £38, less than Mumsnetters' top budget recommendation, the Mia&Coco Heated Blanket, which is currently £40.

I've tested both, and while the Mia&Coco is thicker, the Cosi Home is much, much softer and feels nicer against my skin, If you're sensitive to manmade sherpa-style fabrics, the Cosi Home is a better bet.
