TLDR version: Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing is currently being heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and is scheduled to end on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against the Royal College of Nursing, against three senior managers who were witnesses in the employment tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

NP - yes an action plan based on report. Internal processes. Ongoing NMC processes in relation to those members
DH - Fair Care for Trans Patients - questions about that - you drew distinction between policy and guide?

NP - a policy might give advice to steward, advice Whereas this is a clinical advice to inform practice. As opposed to union doc.

See what happens when a union cosies too close to government bodies.

They lose track about who pays them and for why.

ickky · 25/09/2026 16:36

@Hedgehogforshort Rarely do Governments carry out the wishes of their electorate, it would seem the RCN hold their members in as much contempt as the Government do the general population.

BettyBooper · 25/09/2026 16:37

I'm not sure I liked all the reliance on having 'GC beliefs' in this tbh. Not believing in GI doesn't need to have a label for reality to remain real and for women to have their rights in law. It just buys into the whole nonsense.

I'm sure there's legal reasons, but I wish we could start talking in plain language again.

NP The decision was to whether any work being done outside that would impact RCN. I decided LM had breached her contract , a technical breach, not maliciously done.
DH you set out your reasoning in letter.
NP yes
DH last page 731. You set out in some detail what was in your mind when reaching the decision. A letter of concern to be issued?
NP a note on Lisa’s file setting out any action to be taken.
DH why appropriate to issue a letter?
NP Lisa had been passive in setting out her declaration of interest form. Her manager could have been more proactive too. Needed to set out difficulties to Lisa, including her own social media.

[!!!]

If deciding unasked to complete one, sending it in, mentioning it to her manager, and chasing several times to try to get a response is 'passive', WTH hell counts as 'active'? Painting it in 20ft high letters on the wall of head office? Writing it in icing on biscuits and force feeding them to the person meant to deal with it? Composing an operatic version and performing it individually to every member of staff?

Yes, what about Workplace Regs, you'd think a union would be keen on employers abiding by workplace regs which include separate facilities for men and women... but I suppose 'men' and 'women' meant whateverrrr to Fife and the RCN at the time..🙄

You left out Interpretive Dance. Boiledbeetle is good at that. I'm not sure if having 6 legs is an advantage or a disadvantage in dance, but anyway she's awfully good at it.👯👯👯
edited to add 4 more legs..

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 25/09/2026 16:45

I'm also puzzled as to why the Work Place Regs don't get mentioned more in the tribunals and court cases.

Any nurse who's a member of this union is reading this thread, is still a member of this union by money needs their head read.

Perhaps it because GC belief is WORIADS and a protected belief?
