Researchers at Rutgers University found that those normalising transgender beliefs were more likely to be supportive of political violence.

Here's an NYP article summarising the report findings

I'm shocked, who'd have thought it. Oh wait haven't they been violent toward Kelly J Keen when she lets women speak

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 27/08/2026 17:09

A Shocking Report!, a long overdue and where the hell have you been for years response is called for.
It's good that the violence inherent in the Global Left movement is being highlighted. It shouldn't, however, come as a shock to anyone, that they have violent tenancy, the rhetoric, the flash mobs of chanting, flag waving, rainbow besotted nutters, is a dead give away.

IwantToRetire · 27/08/2026 19:09

Surely its the other way round?

Male lefties finding a reason to be violent is not that unknown, added to which in this instance it gives them a "valid" reason for attacking women.

TRA success is based on the bedrock of long entrenched MRA culture.

Important Limitations and Criticisms

  • No Proof of Action: The study only measured how people thought about violence in a survey. It did not measure whether anyone actually committed violent acts. 1]
  • No Cause and Effect: The study cannot prove that gender ideology causes authoritarian views, or the other way around. An outside factor could cause both. 1]
  • Political Identity: Political party loyalty was still the strongest overall predictor of a person's views on these issues. 1]

You clearly have not viewed the footage of protests at Let Women Speak events, not to mention attacks on women discussing VAWG in Brighton (that was Bash Back) and the earlier attacks on women meeting to discuss women's issues across the UK, often in university settings. And KJK was physically attacked in Australia. You must be sitting under a stone not to know this.
I see the NYT brands the university doing the research as right-wing.

It's amazing how so many of our opposition never manage to actually see the aggressive and often violent behaviour at left-wing and anti-woman protests.

This selective editing of reality happened during the BLM riots in the US (live on telly at one point), it happens in the UK at various Pro-Pal marches. The media either fails to mention it or plays it down. Same with the various women's rights events in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK/Ireland.

I deplore violence from any political perspective and I want the media to report fairly and honestly on all marches and protests rather than editing things to suit a Left-friendly POV.

This is dumb. I could point to significantly more instances of right wing inspired violence. As the link says its not so much a particular issue but political alignment that's associated to political violence.

I’ve read through the study, and I really think the statement above is ridiculous.

It’s worth looking at the two institutes named alongside the authors: the Manhattan Institute and the Network Contagion Research Institute. Note the type of language used in the study. This is a heavily biased report.

BTW, KJK was not physically attacked in Australia. She had a can of tomato soup poured over her in New Zealand.

CrocsNotDocs · Yesterday 02:53

Journalist Andy Ngo meticulously details these links. He’s worth a follow and is very careful and forensic in his research. Violent extremists on the left have fractured his skull. Of course, despite being a non-white gay man, the usual suspects dismiss him as a right wing bigot.

The 'study' is just a desperate far right funded reach at maintaining electoral relevance given Trump's cratering of the Republican electoral trust. Mid terms are coming up in a few months so its time to play 'reruns' of what they believe is a winning formula: Trans & leftist bashing that's supposed make everyone forget about the monumental corruption, economic global fall out & needless wars.

Never was there a party with so little to offer that relies on a virtually nonexistent group to scape goat as a diversion for all their shortcomings. That such a misogynistic lot are pretending this is about protecting women's rights tells exactly how stupid they think Americans are.

What precisely is your issue with the study itself? Not the authors.

As far as I can tell, it’s a survey which found that people who "normalised transgender beliefs were more likely to express support for political violence."

It’s just based on respondents answering written questions, so I’m struggling to see how the authors’ personal backgrounds would affect it.

PeachyDaisy · Yesterday 04:24

Yeah I think it is probably more correlation than causation. If you are strongly pro-trans then you are also probably holding a lot of other extremist positions and extremism is correlated with political violence.

I haven’t read the report, but most of us probably do believe political violence can be justified in some circumstances.

And this ideology tells black-and-white thinkers that this is a genocide.

I think what I was trying to say is that extremists tend to have a broader definition of when political violence is justifiable than the average person does.

ThisFunSheep · Yesterday 04:42

Don’t know, @PeachyDaisy. They acknowledge that as a limitation and are looking into it, but I think we can mull over the possible explanations ourselves.

If you believe other people must see or refer to you in a particular way, it’s conceivable that this can make coercion or even violence seem more justifiable when people refuse to comply.

There are also online trans communities where violent rhetoric is sometimes justified or encouraged. Being immersed in that sort of environment could potentially reinforce those attitudes and be a contributing factor.

This may sound harsh, but I also think some of the rhetoric in these spaces can be remarkably detached from facts and reason. Even asking what someone like Widdecombe has done can produce bizarre responses. I do wonder whether an ideology that places subjective identity and feelings above biological reality could contribute to that mindset.

I’m not saying any one of these things causes supports violence, but there seem to be quite a few plausible mechanisms that could potentially be causative, although there may also be factors that are correlative.

PeachyDaisy · Yesterday 04:51

@ThisFunSheep I'm pretty sure that political extremism and political violence are linked. I don't think it is controversial to say there is a correlation between the two.

ThisFunSheep · Yesterday 05:02

Well okay @PeachyDaisy but that doesn't mean it's only extremism.

@Mikatdo you've still not explained how any bias could impact the study which is am online questionnaire and correlation between stated beliefs? Are you suggesting he faked the results? How?

Ah yes. I agree. I was trying to say that I think it’s likely to be at least partly causal, not just a correlation.

PeachyDaisy · Yesterday 05:06

@ThisFunSheep I never said it was only extremism. I just said there is a correlation between someone have having politically extremist beliefs and an increased likelihood to commit political violence.

Yup. I can't open the report because of my location, but there is an actual war going on just now started by the right wing POTUS. And that is political.

The biography of one of the authors that shows clear bias.

https://manhattan.institute/person/colin-wright?shown=20

How so? Because he's a sex realist! Whose be subjected to harassment and verbal violence, because violence isn't just physical, verbal aggression can be just as damaging as a punch.

WaterThyme · Yesterday 06:17

The report defines upfront what it counts as left wing:

Left-wing authoritarianism (LWA) is the construct at the center of this study. It describes a psychological profile characterized by aggression toward perceived oppressors, enthusiasm for top-down censorship and institutional enforcement, and hostility toward conventional social institutions—in short, an authoritarian disposition organized around left rather than right political content

This may mean something if you live in the US. But In the UK at least I don’t think it lines up with what people think of as left and right.

I don’t think turning perspectives on the trans debate into left versus right is helpful. Certainly not in a crude way like this where the words are used in a way aligned to the ways US Republicans and Democrats try to label each other.
