Researchers at Rutgers University found that those normalising transgender beliefs were more likely to be supportive of political violence.

Here's an NYP article summarising the report findings

Do you actually believe it’s likely there are loads of homophobic parents who would reject a gay child but an accept a trans child?

Hannah Barnes/Deb Cohen's Newsnight longterm investigation of the Tavistock clinic found that such parents do exist and brought their children to the clinic because they wanted their gay children to be transed to 'make them straight'. Because this happened so often, the medical staff at the clinic had a dark joke that soon there wouldn't be any gay children left. These investigative journalists also found that a significant number of the children treated at the Tavistock had a parent who was a sex offender who wanted their child's puberty blocked.

There are whole countries that do this.

There are places like Thailand with a higher social /cultural tolerance for trans women, sure, but the idea that in the west (I assume the poster I responded to was talking about America as the study is American and she was referencing right wing gun culture etc) the idea that there is a ‘trend’ for coming out as transgender because a homophobic parent is more likely to accept it is a myth (and a disingenuous, harmful one).

Yes, the parents accept that they were born into the wrong body and suddenly it is fine for them to sleep with the same gender.

If an entire theocratic nation (Iran) operates along those lines, I don't think it's particularly strange to suggest individual parents will.

There are many religiously conservative parents in the US. Why do you think that it is unlikely that they might have exactly the same homophobia as religiously conservative countries such as Iran?

You know that there are churches that will marry a transwoman and a 'cis' man for example, but won't marry two men, right?

It's wild that people can't see why religiously, or otherwise, conservative parents wouldn't prefer to believe that their son wants to sleep with men because he is really their daughter, rather than accept they have a gay child.

I don’t think any of you are being at all honest pretending to believe that in American, the UK etc, parents are more likely to accept a trans child than they are a gay child

…. BUT I am glad you all suddenly recognise that transgender identities exist in cultures across the world (and always have done, and probably won’t stop existing just because you yell ‘bloke in a dress’ back and forth at each other on the internet 🥳)

No pretence is required, there is an award winning book that was written by one of the journalists based on the longterm Newsnight investigation. The book explains the behaviour of these homophobic parents and why they brought their children to the Tavistock clinic.

No-one said 'parents'. We are talking about specific sub-groups of parents.

'Pretending to believe' is your skillset, not ours.

I've never heard anyone deny that there are trans-identified persons, whether the identity is freely chosen or coerced, in other countries.

I don't think anyone has ever denied that in countries and cultures with very rigid ideas of sexuality and/or 'appropriately sexed' behaviour, individuals who sit outside those constraints have been labelled as 'not-men' or, less frequently, 'not-women'. You seem to be playing catch-up.

It’s a weird phenomenon on the section of the site that people think they’re the top most up to date on all research and discussion, and anyone else must be playing catch up. We have all the information you do, and we STILL don’t agree with bigotry.

If you did some research you'd find that the girls that were originally given puberty blockers were given them because their parents did not want butch lesbian daughters.

And Suzie Green, literally had a husband who did not want a gay son, so they gave him drugs and took him to Thailand to have his penis removed on his 16th birthday.

Loads of them. In their own words.

Explain if you like. It’s true I am a bit confused why if you all know that transgender people have existed across cultures for thousands of years, you’ve spend the last decade or so whipping up a moral panic.

I’m not particularly offended by being called sugar. You know it’s condescending, and it’s not how I’d speak to other women, but I didn’t report you.

The phenomenon that seems to have existed across time and cultures is a variety of similar, but not identical ways, for cultures to pretend that they do not have any gay men (and perhaps to a lesser extent, gay women).

People self-IDing as 'transgender' and declaring that this gives them the right to redefine the meanings of the words 'woman' and 'man', is a much more recent phenomenon.

There is no whipping up of a moral panic. There is simply an insistence by women that we are not a resource to be used by men either to affirm an identity or to feed a fetish.

I will truly never understand men.

'Trans' is a modern trend so therefore hasn't existed 'forever', just a decade, although a decade can seem like forever for those with micro minds.

I do think the threats and violence are all coming from one side and it's time the authorities in every country recognise that.

We do speak for all women even those who don't care if their rights are taken from them, those who want to give their rights away, those who are happy to forfeit they rights so they can submit to the authority of men.

That's up to them, giving away the rights of all women because of any of the above is not theirs to do.
