Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Do you agree that it is an example of homophobia when a transwoman couple call themselves lesbians @Lexibletheflexible?

BackToLurk · 26/08/2026 09:10

Waitingfordoggo · 26/08/2026 09:05

Yes, those who deny there are two sexes deny homosexuality, I stand by that. (Not all TRAs deny there are two sexes so that is not inherently part of the ideology; it’s just what most of them believe).

Yes. The “well sex is complicated, how do we even know what it is, it isn’t just a binary” people do rather imply that either gay people have some special sex detector that can recognise people as male or female, or they don’t actually exist as same-sex attracted people.

borntobequiet · 26/08/2026 09:18

Of course if you deny the sex binary you also deny same-sex attraction. The one requires the other.

PuppyMonkey · 26/08/2026 09:18

God. I used to really fancy Mel Gibson, he was delicious as a young man and I was very upset when he was revealed to be an arsehole and got cancelled.

Never mind, I thought, still got Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt…. Oh dear…

Okay that is what I thought and challenged. Denial that there is just two sexes doesn't mean you can't acknowledge one only be attracted to (wo)men who have always been (wo)men.

Edited

I don't think there any boundaries on what might be believed by somebody who thinks there are three or more sexes.

Waitingfordoggo · 26/08/2026 10:12

@Lexibletheflexible People who don’t believe there are just two sexes say that sex is a spectrum. If sex is a spectrum then homosexual would mean being attracted only to people who are on the exact same bit of the spectrum as you. How do you know which bit of the spectrum they’re on? How do you know which bit you’re on? If sex is a spectrum, how come male and female are the only bits of the spectrum we have names for?

@Shedmistress , if you aren't aware of Gibson's frequent antisemitic rants (often when pissed or high) over the past 20 odd years, don't expect everyone else to do your homework for you.

He's been arrested more than once and gone off on appalling rants he's later had to apologise for, and became largely unemployable as a result of it.

Winona Ryder said he called Jews Oven-dodgers at a party they were both at, for heavens sake.

His father made more controversial comments on live TV, during the promotion for the "Passion of The Christ".

Good actor up until about mid 80"s as well, "What Women Want" was a kind of comeback to decent acting IMO, watch some of his scenes in that, he is good. This social media post is obviously not the real MG though, the picture is staged, those two are also actors, the bloke in the skirt looks absolutely ridiculous.

I dont know that they all do say that sex is a spectrum. I know they say that about gender.

Yeah that still doesnt make sense because you can fully acknowledge that some people are only attracted to people who are biological males or females and still believe that there are several genders.

It isn't impossible to hold both views so in no way is a belief in gender identity intrinsically homophobic.

It's best to stick to arguments with substance or nobody will listen to you.

You said " you can believe that there are several genders and that sex is irrelevant" and yet still believe that people are attracted to people of the same biological sex.

Then what do you mean by " sex is irrelevant"? If biological sex is the basis of their attraction, it is absolutely "relevant". You can't have your cake and eat it.

So are you telling those people that their sexuality isn't what they think it is, because sex is irrelevant and what attracts them is actually the same gender?

Or that it is what they think it is, but it isn't valid, because sex is irrelevant and so they should accept non-same-sex partners if they're the right gender, and accept social unpleasantness if they won't?

Waitingfordoggo · 26/08/2026 09:07

It's difficult to see much of a difference between this and the obviously regressive 'jokes' by 1970s comedians about being "a lesbian trapped in a man's body". In addition, if we accept that most transpeople recognise the sex binary and know what sex they are, then those two transwomen are redefining lesbians as males who are attracted to males.

Lexibletheflexible · 26/08/2026 16:16

Heggettypeg · 26/08/2026 16:04

To put it crudely, you can acknowledge that there are several genders, and still understand why a woman like me is only into men who have had their own dicks from birth or say a woman might want someone with a "congenital vagina" xD

Isn't it more that a person can "believe that people are attracted to people of the same biological sex" it's just that those people can't have a word to describe themselves that hasn't been co-opted by others who don't actually fit the original word the same-sex attracted people used? Sounds familiar. Who knew that Erasure weren't just a band, they were a prophecy.

KeepPumping · 26/08/2026 16:32

By the first lethal Weapon he had started that odd over-acting thing, can anyone shed light on why he started doing that?

aquapod · 26/08/2026 17:04

I think it is likely he is critical of trans ideology he is a very conservative catholic so I am sure he isn't quite on the same page as most of us. Also I am not sure that is an official account actually run by him, looks more like a fan account.

TRAs could acknowledge that, but many of them don’t. That’s what I’ve been trying to explain (obviously not very well).

If you say what you just said to a TRA, you’re quite likely to be told you’re obsessed with genitals/reducing people to their genitals/a genital fetishist. And that’s the part of the ideology that I’m saying is homophobic. (Because it obviously is).

It’s also heterophobic as it doesn’t allow straight women like you and me to only want to have sex with male men with penises that they’ve had since birth. (But obviously heterophobia isn’t a thing because we aren’t oppressed.)

IGotHam · 26/08/2026 23:39

He’s an anti semite. And a misogynist.

Lexibletheflexible · 27/08/2026 05:47

Heggettypeg · 26/08/2026 17:27

But if you say "sex is irrelevant" you are dismissing those things. You can't have it both ways.

Yeah you can. Simply because you can believe that when someone has the anatomy of a (wo)man and feels internally aligned with that, they are representing their gender identity, not their sex.

So someone like me who has a vagina and so was classed as female, and has no feelings of dysphoria or desire to identify as anything but a woman, is indeed a woman but because of that internal alignment. Not because I was born with a vagina.

So by that standard, my sex (ie being XX chromosomed and having the body to match) is irrelevant to my identity as a woman. It is the alignment of my internal and external self that makes me a woman. A misalignment would mean I am other gendered or perhaps non-gendered.

Someone can still want people who both have my anatomy and who is comfortable identifying as a woman, and subscribe to gender ideology. So they can feel that trans women exist and are valid and women and whatever else, but still only harbour attraction for women identifying people with natal vaginas and breasts.

For example, most "pro trans" people would be perfectly understanding of a lesbian who isn't interested in dating a trans man despite them having a vagina. They'd understand that despite the person's anatomy and chromosome configuration (XX), someone who doesn't identify with womanhood isn't attractive to someone who is attracted to women.

BTW, I'm not saying everyone who is "pro trans" feels this way, I'm just saying it is possible for these beliefs to exist simultaneously and so it can't be intrinsically homophobic to subscribe to gender ideology. You have to subscribe to GI and genuinely believe that someone who isnt interested in dating trans people is inherently transphobic. Those people do exist of course.

Lexibletheflexible · 27/08/2026 05:48

Waitingfordoggo · 26/08/2026 17:50

I've answered that in my latest post. For there to be intrinsic homophobia in gender ideology, everyone would have to hold that belief.

Lexibletheflexible · 27/08/2026 05:52

What I have found interesting, mind, is that there are some here who genuinely thought any bigot who is againat trans people counts as GC.

Others seem determined to gun for anyone who publicly denounces trans people, regardless of their own transgressions. That's when you can safely say that those people are more interested in the demonisation of trans people for their own ideological reasons like religious zealotry than the protection of anyone.

NotBadConsidering · 27/08/2026 06:00

Lexibletheflexible · 27/08/2026 05:48

I've answered that in my latest post. For there to be intrinsic homophobia in gender ideology, everyone would have to hold that belief.

The intrinsic homophobia is threatening and punishing anyone who dares express anything other than that belief.

As soon as you say “men can’t be lesbians”, you are not compliant with gender ideology. You’re an apostate. So even if not everyone is on board, they can’t express it.

Lexibletheflexible · 27/08/2026 06:07

NotBadConsidering · 27/08/2026 06:00

As soon as you say “men can’t be lesbians”, you are not compliant with gender ideology. You’re an apostate. So even if not everyone is on board, they can’t express it.

So they may believe that you are transphobic because you are calling trans women, men.

If you were to say "some people who are attracted to women arent attracted to trans women because they want women with natal anatomy", that would be viewed as less problematic by a lot of people (not everyone). You're not casting TW as men to explain the lack of attraction.

So it isn't that you're remarking that some people specifically want biological (wo)men, it is that you are calling TW men that is being pulled up as discriminatory.

PS: this is not an invitation to discuss whether TW are men or my personal beliefs.
