Ok. I am happy to take the DUI conviction and the misdemeanour battery conviction plus related documentation as direct evidence without needing to have personally witnessed those incidents myself.

If we can only believe things we have personally witnessed, then we are not going to be likely to make much progress on this!

I think what @Shedmistressis asking for is evidence of the dreadful things Gibson said and did because despite it being huge news for years and all but ruined his career, she and her husband heard nothing about it. So let’s put our heads together and get some evidence that you can’t click on, is not provided by a news agency or comes from the internet. Does anyone know Mel personally and could maybe get a statement?

Yeah but you just said it was from Mel. We can't take your word for it. And if you were there and filmed it, it's probably edited or AI. We're going to have to get him in person to meet with her and tell her directly, or it didn't happen.

Gibson went on telly for an interview with Diane Sawyer afterwards, admitted he said it and apologised. Wanted "to meet rabbis" to "educate himself."

And if he’s been caught on video saying Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world, it seems completely plausible he’d be similarly offensive to a fellow actor. Why do you disbelieve that someone racist in one context would be racist against the same group in another context?

I have no idea what my OH thinks of Mel Gibson, we've never once discussed him and I very much doubt we ever will. I asked these questions all on my own without his permission or knowledge.

The frothing for asking questions on here is...well...amazing.

Well, I had no idea that Mel Gibson had done any of that! ( possibly because I've never been very interested in him). I had a vague idea that he didn't like the English very much, but that might be because of Braveheart, so I'm not sure if it's true. Nor did I know that Winona Ryder was Jewish nor that she had been accused of shoplifting. So it is perfectly possible not to know these things, even if they have been on the news.

I think the clear conclusion is that Gibson most certainly is not gender critical. Never mind that the rage bait nonsense in the OP is nothing to do with him anyway.

Separately, being gender critical is nothing to do with being a transphobic bigot, as much as a previous poster might like to think so.

I also now feel very old, as I remember the Winona Ryder shoplifting incident when it happened, as well as remembering each of the incidents where Gibson behaved atrociously.

It’s possible to not know things, especially if you don’t really follow news from the entertainment world. But it’s also possible to quickly and easily find information on the internet to verify (or not) things that people are saying about a celebrity.

MG also called one of the arresting (female) police officers ‘sugar tits’ if I remember correctly. Ricky Gervais called him out publicly and in his presence for that (among other things) when he presented the Golden Globes.
