Mainly because St Mungo's the homeless charity, is at the end of Endell Street.
A few years ago, you used to see Fadi, George Michael's ex boyfriend, hanging out in this area as I think he had addiction/homelessness problems. I remember giving him some money.
You only see police on the streets these days if the Royals/MPs/Sadiq Khan are doing something or there is a protest, otherwise traditional policing of a bobby on the beat is very, very rare in London these days.
Charing Cross is full of homeless people, which makes me angry when you think that only a short distance away are completely out of touch and overpaid politicians, and the cavorting Royals... Camilla with her new frocks. It is sad that we live in such an unequal society.
London has certainly declined in the last 10 years or so. Only last week I was walking to the station after work, around 10.30pm and a rickshaw driver practically knocked me down. I threw myself out of the way and fell as a result. He didn't even stop! It feels totally lawless these days. Luckily, although I'm almost 60, I still consider myself quite robust!
