Update 19 January 2019: This story has been amended to clarify that Amati is transgender.

This man is obviously profoundly mentally unwell. Whatever is going on, simply bowing to his desire to be called ‘she’ is not going to make him well and affirmation has don’t nothing to help him and possibly made him worse. On a one to one basis I feel sorry for him.

that said, it’s obvious that he is a potential danger to others, and the thought of him in a single sex space for women is awful. It’s also a stunning example of why women don’t confront trans women in single sex spaces, imagine the consequences if they did? And this them makes the TIM think he passes rather than he has simply terrified the women into forced acceptance.

More about Evie Amati:

“Ms Amati has pleaded not guilty to the axe attacks because she was mentally ill at the time.
The court heard Ms Amati met up with Mickila Jahnsen, who was 25 at the time, earlier that night.
They had connected on the dating app Tinder and then exchanged messages on Facebook.
Ms Amati went to her house in Marrickville where, in the company of Ms Jahnsen's friends, they drank vodka and each took the drug MDMA in preparation for going out, Ms Jahnsen said.
Ms Jahnsen told the court they were en route to the Burdekin Hotel in Darlinghurst, when Ms Amati "suddenly" stopped the car to get out.
"She seemed kinda mad, angry and I was confused why," Ms Jahnsen said.
Tinder date 'freaked out', 'blocked' AmatiThe court heard the pair then exchanged messages which started because Ms Jahnsen said she was concerned for Ms Amati's safety.
The court heard that in the message exchange, Ms Amati said she felt as though Ms Jahnsen thought she was "ugly" and she could tell she was not "attracted" to her.
Ms Jahnsen told the court the messages then escalated and Ms Amati called her a "sociopath" and said "people like you is what's wrong with the world".
"One day I'm going to kill a lot of people and it will be your fault," Ms Jahnsen said was in one of the messages.
"I freaked out and blocked her on Facebook," Ms Jahnsen told the court.
The last messages were sent an hour before the alleged attack.”

Woman accused of axe attack spoke about twisting people's necks, court told

Evie Amati allegedly told a friend she was "going to kill a lot of people" shortly before walking into a Sydney convenience store and attacking three customers with an axe, a court hears.

Gay men have managed to tell women who identify as men that no, they don’t find them attractive and no, they don’t want them in gay male spaces. They have been called transphobic, bigots etc but they don’t care.

Yet somehow, even on this thread, threatening men with no self-regulation and no boundaries are calling themselves women and people are falling over themselves to “be kind”, make excuses, show compassion. Meaning that our daughters have to get changed next to this kind of low-life.

I have no issue with sharing it. Present the “be kind” crew with the consequences of their ideology. Remind them that these men are entering the private spaces of our daughters. Remind them that this is where their TWAW ends up.

The actions & body language are those of a toddler rejecting his cutted up pear, He is literally jumping up & down in his anger!

Deadringer · 23/07/2026 11:22

Its sad to have these incidences posted online for these mentally ill people and their families. But its important to shine a light on this stuff as so many people seem to still believe that the trans women they hear about and read about are gentle, feminine men who have had all the surgeries and are quietly living their lives using womens facilities unnoticed. If people are making decisions about rules and legislation around women only spaces they need to be fully aware of will be availing of them.

ProfMummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 23/07/2026 11:23

We need to have evidence that allowing men into women’s spaces and propping up their fantasy world that everyone will treat them as the women they are claiming to be increases the risk of violence to women. So there you go.

Yep. Women raise concerns about safety and the risk of violent men, get told it never happens. Women present evidence of said violent men, get told we shouldn't be showing it, it's someone who is clearly mentally unwell.

YES! Mentally unwell violent men, the exact ones women tried to raise concerns about and got poo-poohed and told didn't exist. Maybe if they believed women in the first place they wouldn't have to view the uncomfortable truth.

Because it is very uncomfortable. I'd be terrified to meet him in an enclosed private female space. And yet we're a bunch of meanies to point this out. He should be having safety and support apparently.

Well he can have safety and support till the cows come home, he very obviously needs it.

But what he CAN'T have, is access to women's spaces. We aren't the safety and support humans, there to foist mentally unwell men upon, so the rest of society can carry on with their heads in the sand while we deal with the shitshow - and he clearly needs professional help.

I also don’t think videos should be posted of any members of the public - I’ve never been a fan of shaming or commenting on others via video. But apparently saying no to men isn’t enough, our lack of consent isn’t enough, our privacy and dignity and boundaries aren’t enough.

We need to have evidence that allowing men into women’s spaces and propping up their fantasy world that everyone will treat them as the women they are claiming to be increases the risk of violence to women. So there you go.

This is an excellent point

You appear to have diagnosed him as “mentally ill“ based on him having a tantrum when challenged. What if he wasn’t, but realised if he every time threw a tantrum he’d get what he wanted? And it’s very obvious why you won’t discuss whether a group of men, including a not inconsiderable number of men like this, should be in women’s spaces with women and girls, because you know you can’t back it up.

100% wrong. It's because the MN TERFs are obsessed while for me (and most other women) it's a passing, very slight, interest.

heathspeedwell · 23/07/2026 11:28

I think some people are struggling with the video because it shows so clearly that it isn't 'kind' to let vulnerable men think they are women.

It's easy to repeat a mantra like 'transwomen are women'. It's not so easy to be confronted with the real-life consequences of repeating that lie.

It reminds me of the tragic situation where a 'kind' NHS worker who believed that 'transmen are men' put a transman on a male psych ward. The inmates immediately clocked that the transman was a woman and she was raped twice within an hour of being admitted.

Lying about sex is anything but 'kind'.

I don't like the use of police body cam footage in the US at all. There are whole Netflix documentaries told from the point of view of police footage now. I can see why they do it, but its horrible to see people at their very worst and it be spread across the world.

I want the police everywhere to have body cams on. Footage automatically uploaded to a vloud storage that only the judiciary have access to.

And that "footage lost" and "camera not working" are seen as trying to pervert the course of justice

Why are you using misogynistic slurs about women who understand what sex is?

Sortingmyself · 23/07/2026 11:35

Shedmistress · 23/07/2026 10:46

How do women know which one will totally lose it and which one won't?

It's like having a box of maltesers where 2 have been injected with poison. How would you know which ones were safe to eat? Ergo, allowing men into women's spaces, how do we know which of them are safe to be around and which aren't safe to be around? Clearly we don't know and often many of us take those risks. This guy in the video is wearing his aggression very clearly so we can easily make the choice to avoid him...not so easy in many other cases/situations.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 11:35

Good to know you’re not really interested in understanding why your ideology puts women at risk of violence from men.

It's nice of you to call it an obsession.

Again this is privilege.

I don't have the privilege of it being something that just passed my life by.

Why? Because of the impact on my family, my own self worth and self esteem and the pressure put on me regarding my brother's behaviour.

And now I find myself in a situation where a couple of my best friends are going through their own family issues and trauma over the same thing.

It's impact is profound on every family I've known it to touch. So much of it is unspoken and taboo.

This is just one scenario.

There's plenty of others where it is a day to day problem for people. Sandy Peggie or some nurses in Darlington could probably fill you in on the details a bit in terms of their experiences.

"I'm alright Jack" with the slur of calling it an "obsession" says way more about you than anyone here on MN who talks about the subject.

WhenImClownin · 22/07/2026 22:46

Nope. Not buying it any more.

We tried to 'be kind' to this type of person for far too long and THIS is where it got us. Validating and pussyfooting around this type of behaviour only enforces the delusion and makes these people think they they are in the right.

A reality check like this is needed for a hell of a lot of them. Maybe a few will see this and the publics reaction to it and reconsider their own behaviour in public next time.

This post has very little to do with gender identity and everything to do with a seriously unwell person in meltdown. Why on earth would you be anything other than kind to someone in mental health crisis? Do you think shouting at someone that they are a boy is going to help? It clearly didn't help in this situation. The whole thing was needlessly escalated and needed mental health intervention.

AgedPudding · 23/07/2026 11:35

I don’t know anyone who is autistic and trans. My circle of people with ASD is large

I strongly agree. One of my adult children has a LD and over the past 30 years throughout special schools, daycentres and many groups and activities there are a huge number of his peers who have autism. As parents we are obviously heavily involved. Not one single autistic person I know identifies as trans.

Arguably we couldn’t make the decision to avoid him if he was in front of the door when we came out of the toilet or changing rooms. And that’s the problem. He’s been encouraged to think that everyone sees him as a woman. They don’t.

It's possible/likely he is not 'crazy' in that he may well not have a mental illness.

More likely he has personality disorder or disorders, and also be neurodivergent.

May be worth considering whether 'affirming' a personality disorder actually exacerbates it.

I get it - but this is not about "affirming", this is about diffusing the situation so he can get arrested without hassle and without having to use violence and pepper spray.

If this man were one of your work colleagues, would you be happy pussy-footing around him and calling him 'she/her' in case of a massive temper-tantrum?

Would you be happy sharing a changing room with him (if you were, say, a nurse)?

Blimey. It’s like watching Kevin the teenager, or a giant blue haired toddler. There is a man who has been pandered to, lied to, and never told ‘no’. It is horrifying to think he probably uses female facilities.

100%, and police should be able to handle people with personality disorders. As I said, though, they've been trained to see a 'trans' identifying person as explicitly not having mental health issues/personality disorder.

This is not helping anyone.

“Being kind” is all well and good, but it has everything to do with gender identity when he enters my daughters’ bathroom. In his stupid little girl stripy socked attire, FFS.

I’m not an expert at all, but I think a lot of the young people who have diagnosed themselves with gender dysphoria have also diagnosed themselves with ASD, they may or may not have it, but they probably aren’t receiving much mainstream support for it, their “identity” is affirmed far more. So the kind of support they get is Reddit and LGBT groups.

Wow I do. My family member, several kids of friends, and several friends of my DC. My teenager even commented that the people in school who have a trans identity are generally the ones who have a ND diagnosis. One girl in particular has a range of diagnoses and has had a lot of problems with bullying, and has ID'd as trans off and on – in my teen's view, as a way to try to fit in or find an accepting crowd.

Having said that there is a lot of overlap between adopting trans as an identity, and adopting/collecting other diagnoses as an identity. So some people are self-diagnosing as autistic/ADHD as well as trans which muddies the situation.

So, he’s allegedly around 27 years old. He was enrolled in the university in Spring of 2025, but isn’t a current student. He hasn’t graduated from there either. From an article

Why is he hanging around the university if he isn’t a student?

I’m not sure I’m buying the ‘I’m distressed’ schtick. It appears to be more rage at not controlling those around him as they don’t jump when he says ‘hop’. He possibly gets away with a lot of bs behaviour when he dishes that out. Also, if the ‘misgendering’ wasn’t an issue, it would probably just be something else.

He was fairly with it all when he was telling the policeman ‘try it’ when he asked him to lower his voice and calm down, otherwise he would have to arrest him.

Then at the very end, the ‘I hate you. I hate you all, you escalated this, you didn’t have to pull out the pepper spray or continue to misgender me’. ‘You knew my buttons, and you set them off’. After all the bs he pulled.

Yes. I am not saying he doesn't have some vulnerability (ies?) but he knew exactly what he was doing here. Adults throwing tantrums is not something I would want tolerated in society as a given.
