Full Council Chaos. Bristol City Council refusing to implement single sex services

Last night at the full council meeting women asking questions about BCC's refusal to implement the law was met with heckling from the gallery and a nonsensical word salad from council officials.

Somehow the number of questions, and goodness knows what other personal details, was leaked from within the Council offices and fed to far left activists who put out a call for attendance online. At least 100 turned up and abused and harrassed members of the public while they were speaking. At one point they were shouting at a questioners to sit down. No action was taken by council officials to maintain order.

As they left, women were met with heckling, chanting and shouting outside the building from more far left activists. The atmosphere was intimidating and abusive.

Please note, the Council agenda that evening held an item on a city wide commitment to ending VAWG. Harrassment and abuse was happening right in front of them and they not only initiated this spectacle but supported it.

Women are not safe in Bristol.

Oh but there is

1 - council refuses to enforce EHRC code etc.

2 - Local pressure groups bring a wide range of legal threats to the council, al on record

3 - Council ignore it

4 - Legal action is a huge slam dunk, costing hundreds of thousands of pounds

5 - Local pressure groups tell everyone who will listen that the council set 300 grand on fire

I hope those local pressure groups are listening

Ah, I reckon these gals - https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womensrights/5455053-bristol-council-is-about-to-be-sued

That link doesn't seem to lead anywhere now, at least not for me. Perhaps it's been moved?

Weird, it did! Was about a local Bristol group suing the council for similar nonsense

I learned to swim in an old Victorian pool. The changing cubicles ran along the two long sides of the pool. They were solid construction with big heavy doors and no gaps. The showers were open at one end of the pool so you showered in your costume.. It felt very safe, no worries about who was in the next cubicle and the lifeguard was within calling distance and of course all the other swimmers around. Not sure why that style went out of fashion.

My local modern pool has male and female changing rooms which can feel a bit creepy at quiet times as it would be easy for anyone to enter.

I have spent a lot of time in leisure centres with time on my hands - waiting for swimming lessons etc.

Why would it need fewer cleaning staff and fewer staff to supervise? I’m not sure what you mean by ‘supervise’ - I’ve never seen staff supervising in any capacity in the changing rooms - only people on the front desk.

Ratios for facilities like cubicles and sinks should be the same as it’s based on total number of users and it doesn’t make much difference to cleaning the floor if a space is divided into two large single sex spaces or many smaller cubicles (as in a unisex changing village)

In fact you might find that a large open plan single sex space with a handful of cubicles is quicker to clean than 30 individual unisex cubicles where you have to enter and check each one individually and there are 30 locks to check and multiple holes in the panels to fill, lost property to gather etc etc.

Unisex facilities by their nature are generally less space efficient because it needs all cubicles and I can’t see why it would be more expensive to heat the spaces if the heating system is designed sensibly.

This feels like something everyone claims without really thinking about it and it sounds vaguely convincing but isn’t actually backed by the numbers.

So are people asking for communal single sex changing rooms? I wouldn't support that, I want a cubicle.

Pretty much all gyms and leisure centres now have locker rooms and showers on a single sex basis.
It works.

I don't think that's true. They should (and are required to) have them on a single-sex basis, but most have been operating on a single-gender basis, which is not at all the same thing!

Perhaps @SingleSexSpacesInSchools could improve on this?

I have been a David Lloyd member for decades

I have regularly visited the York club.

The Changing rooms are single sex

Clubs like Bannantye are STRICTLY single sex

What is the difference between “single sex” and “STRICTLY single sex”.

There are 2 sexes according to science and the law, “Single sex” means only 1 of those 2 sexes can use that facility/service, no matter what the person is wearing, has had amended on paperwork or has done to their body with medication or surgery to alter their secondary sex characteristics.

Does David Lloyd allow some Males to use spaces, services and facilities designated as being for Women? If so then they need to make clear to service users via signage and policy that those spaces, services and facilities are for ‘women and males who identify as women’ and for staff they need to provide separate sex segregated or unisex fully enclosed facilities in order to meet the requirements of the U.K. H&S at work legislation. What they cannot do is advertise women only and then allow ANY males, or allow ANY males into women's staff changing rooms or toilets.

The claim was that unisex changing rooms are cheaper to run than single sex. This is often repeated but I’ve never seen any evidence that it’s true.

Most single sex changing rooms have a few cubicles available as well as a common changing area so everyone has a choice.

The risk of voyeurism and sexual assault is drastically reduced, it’s no more expensive, is more space efficient and you can have your cubicle (in the correct sex changing room obvs). The vast majority of people catered for. That’s a win win I’d say.

Bristol Council thinks it can't be touched. Just like Amnesty did. They found out differently.

Laws exist actually.

Anyway Women of Wessex have their number the court case is ongoing. Jo Bartosch is asking awkward questions of key players.

There is signs of a massive data breach that is an absolute no go in local government.

Of course it’s left wing politics. Do you not realise that the entire far left wing of Labour have decamped to the Greens?

This is just how you perceive it.

Its too facile to say the entire left has decamped. That's just rubbish.

A lot of people voting Green because they feel betrayed by Labour is not "decamping".

And even if this left wing you seem to know about have decamped, it is just as easy to say they have ceased to be left wing.

Anyway you have missed the point.

What the Greens are doing, is not about being a political party, as pointed out on another thread this is about ideologues taking over a "party" and then carry on as though they are still students thinking posturing and harassing is the same as being a political party in this instance with an obligation to carry out and implement services for the area ie Bristol.

There is of course a much bigger discussion to be had about why UK politics is so abysmal that these minority group has power. Following Starmer's so called stunning victory - actually a travesty as he got less votes than Corbyn - on one of the lowest turn out.

The takeover of various institutions is, as has been discussed many times is a classic example of entryism by the queer followers who as we know have been networking and slowly infiltrating not just political politics but businesses, the media.

Not forgetting that it was the Conservatives who wanted to bring in self id etc..

To not understand that and think it is about left and right totally underestimates that this isn't about politics. This is about a wholesale onslaught on social norms. Which of course is the intent of queer politics, to disrupt the norms.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/07/2026 02:19

You have no idea @IwantToRetire

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/07/2026 02:26

I didn’t say “the entire left” have decamped to the Greens, don’t misquote me, please. I said the entire far left. You have an odd bias towards what you personally perceive as respectable views. It really isn’t as simplistic as “left wing yay and no true Scotsman”. Women who understand far more than you about it have laid it out in those long threads you CBA to read. You’re very naive.

No argument with you at all about queer politics which I have commented on probably hundreds of times on here but it’s absolutely a leftist project.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/07/2026 02:28

I’m not talking about the voters, I’m talking about the members, the ones paying for the party and calling the shots now. You’ve completely grasped the wrong end of the stick, not for the first time.

how on earth do people think that there should be a difference between “single sex changing” and “strictly single sex” does David Lloyd and similar think actually the first mean, “actually anyone really”

I am so fed up having stupid discussions with lanyard class bell ends it’s got to the point where I don’t trust them to say “female changing” any more and I have to tie them down in actual definitions. Tiresome and pointless. Have high hopes of forcing David Lloyd’s hands but it should not need to be done at all!

Could you say what this reference to Amnesty facing consequences is? Is it somewhere on this thread? Sorry to be a nuisance.

MyThreeWords · 17/07/2026 11:34

Thanks Very much, @seethlaw . I'd read the start of those threads, and the utterly enraging news that Amnesty had published this nonsensical, tin-foil-hatted report. But I was so depressed by this that I hadn't clicked back to the threads to see the encouraging news about the backlash.

God, I can remember idolising Amnesty in the 70s and 80s, when it stuck to campaigning for those suffering from political imprisonment and torture (and similar issues that unconscionably failed to centre trans people's existence). So fucking heartbreaking to see how it has been parasitised.
