I am about to ID as a man

YesItsADebate · 23/02/2018 08:27

In 1.5 hours, I will be identifying as a gay man who does not conform with male gender stereotypes. I expect my local leisure facility to comply with the Swim England guidelines and agree that I am entitled to access the men-only swimming sessions, the male showers and toilets and to wear swimming trunks. I also expect them to re-educate any other man who objects to any of the above.

In other words, I have a meeting with the local swimming pool at 10 to see whether or not I’ll be resorting to topless swimming and public nudity tonight in an effort to prove my point that the Swim England guidelines are ridiculous Blush

Wish me luck!

Doesn't the guidance say that you DO have to wear a top though?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 23/02/2018 08:28

Good luck! We're all behind you. Let us know how it went!

I genuinely wish you all the best. I've wondered for a while if the answer to all this is for us to self ID as men.

I'd offer 💐, but maybe 🍺 will be more appropriate!

NataliaOsipova · 23/02/2018 08:31

Wishing you the best of luck!

MrsOvarall · 23/02/2018 08:31

Good luck! Really interested to hear how it goes.

"Doesn't the guidance say that you DO have to wear a top though?"

I'd be strongly pushing the point that my boobs were male boobs.
Works for penises.

swivelchair · 23/02/2018 08:31

Yes, penis in the women's showers == fine, boobs in the pool == bad.

To be fair, penis in the pool also wouldn't be accepted, and they haven't made their position on gynecomastia clear in the document.

Boobs out in the mens changing room totally fine though.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 23/02/2018 08:32

@TellsEveryoneRealFacts - I believe the guidance is that you would be encouraged to wear a top, but they can't force you.

SweetGrapes · 23/02/2018 08:32

Ooh! Good luck!

NataliaOsipova · 23/02/2018 08:34

I've wondered for a while if the answer to all this is for us to self ID as men.

I'm thinking that a Swim England would see an incredible upsurge in the popularity of swimming as a leisure activity if the local pools often contained large swathes of bare breasted women self ID-ing men.....Grin

Excellent!

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 23/02/2018 08:34

If YesItsADebate should be made / encouraged to wear a top then so should all the other men.

Otherwise she is being discriminated against for being trans.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 23/02/2018 08:35

*he Blush

TerfsUp · 23/02/2018 08:37

Good luck! I'll be interested in the pool's excuses if they say no.

Qvar · 23/02/2018 08:38

men don't wear bikini tops, don't misgender him

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/02/2018 08:38

Good luck!

QueenLaBeefah · 23/02/2018 08:38

Good luck!

May the force —common sense— be with you

Brave lad!

Somerville · 23/02/2018 08:42

Seriously?

If so, then brava! (Or should that be bravo? Confused I don't want to commit actual violence by misgendering you.)

PetraDelphiki · 23/02/2018 08:43

Good luck!!!

MsBeaujangles · 23/02/2018 08:45

I hope you tell them that you are expanding the bandwidth of what it means to be a man. I assume you also identify as an elite swimmer and so will be doing you splashing around in the fast lane.
If they do insist you wear a top, I hope you insist that all other men are made to too. Anyway, if they were inclusive of all men they would do this anyway!

NataliaOsipova · 23/02/2018 08:45

Bravi? (Always go for the inappropriate plural if unsure?) Grin

My guess is that they will emphasise "guidelines" and say tgat they are not "rules" and therefore discretionary
