This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing Pura’s plastic free baby wipes.

Here’s what Pura has to say: “We believe being eco-friendly is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. And that we should all be able to look after our planet, simply by looking after our families. We put babies first, with anti-allergy, organic ingredients and sustainable, biodegradable materials. So you’re protecting their skin and protecting their future too. We’re here to empower everyone to protect the future of the planet today, with eco-friendly products that are affordable and accessible for all”

Some more information on the wipes can be found below:

Pura baby wipes come in 2 types - flushable baby wipes & non flushable baby wipes. They contain 99% water & organic aloe vera. Pura baby wipes are the most accredited baby wipes on the market - certified Vegan safe & multi-accredited by the British Skin Foundation, Allergy UK, PEFC, Not Tested On Animals and the Soil Association. They are 100% biodegradable, 100% compostable & made from PEFC certified plant fibres. The flushable baby wipes are accredited as ‘Fine to Flush’ by Water UK. Best of all they’re totally, utterly, 100%, honestly and truly, PLASTIC FREE!

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, as well as completing the short survey we’ve emailed to you:

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes? I liked the amount of wipes per packet and also their ingredients. There is absolutely nothing in them that could trigger dds allergies.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product? No I would not.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes? The wipes were excellent quality and thick but I found they all clumped together when you were taking them out of the packet. They also left poo smell on dd so she was bathed after being cleaned up with these wipes. I found them not that great at removing all traces of poo from dds bottom and was constantly wiping over her skin which irritated it. I did not flush these wipes.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura? Excellent although they do continue to email you to leave a review on trust pilot. I found the website very easy to navigate and the delivery so quick. Customer service was excellent.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else? I wouldn't recommend them to others as I didn't feel dd was properly cleaned by them and will stick to my usual wipes but the nappies were great.

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
The ingredients were great and the lack of plastic is brilliant. The wipes are very damp which is great for wiping mucky hands and faces.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
No as the smell is atrocious! I can smell the wipes even in a sealed packet. The smell literally makes me retch when I take a wipe out.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
The quality of the wipes is great but the smell massively lets them down.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Loved using the wipes to get DS clean as they do a great job of cleaning up after meals but only if I held my breath to avoid the smell.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
I wouldn't at all unless they had no sense of smell!

Ashton08 Thu 07-Jan-21 17:34:21

wineymummy Thu 07-Jan-21 17:37:28

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
They were very soft and very wet. I didn't want to risk flushing them as I have been told not to, but I did flush a couple and I wasn't worried as they seemed likely to disintegrate.
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
Maybe. They do clump together when you pull them out and tear easily. But I like that they're biodegradable.
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
Not strong enough. I would prefer a stronger, non flushing wipe.
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
The website was easy, delivery the next day.
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
I would recommend someone tried non flushing variety. I would probably not recommend the flushable wipes.

seaduck Thu 07-Jan-21 17:38:49

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?

Wipes themselves are great quality, nice and big, retain their moisture really well, good at cleaning. Obviously no plastic is great.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?

They are above my price point I think but if they were on offer I would definitely consider.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?

Yes, great quality. The pack was a bit annoying, very hard to get just one out without pulling the rest out. I agree the smell was slightly odd, not terrible, just perhaps different than traditional plastic wipes perhaps.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?

Delivery so speedy, quicker than Amazon Prime! I didn't have any interaction other than the website but good experience.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
I would recommend if I thought somebody was willing to pay the extra to get the no plastic element. They are a good wipe overall.

springdale1 Thu 07-Jan-21 17:39:14

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
The packaging was attractive and the wipes were efficient.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
No - we usually use cloth but wanted to try some wipes for on the go. They are no better than a cheaper pack of wipes - although the wipes are compostable it is only so at commercial sites making the point redundant. They’ll go to landfill or be burnt like any other much cheaper wipe.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
Average

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
The ordering process was easy and delivery was quick.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Unlikely

PowerslidePanda Thu 07-Jan-21 17:40:08

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
The ability to flush them - a feature that I've never seen in any other wipes. I feel bad about wipes and nappies going to landfill but I genuinely don't believe re-usable ones are a better option (because running the washing machine repeatedly and at high temperatures isn't good for the environment either!) Pura's solution to this is the best idea I've come across!

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
Unfortunately not... The packaging said it's "gentle and safe for your baby's delicate skin", approved by Allergy UK, etc - and yet my 14 month old had a skin reactions (see pic). I don't know what in the wipes triggered it - she has no known allergies, so maybe it was the texture rather than the ingredients. But it wasn't a one-off - we saw the blotching and spots around her mouth and in her nappy on several occasions and eventually realised that it was appearing each time we used the wipes. I do have two other children and they were both fine with Pura (including the twin of the one who reacted!), but I'm not going to switch brands for the two of them when our usual product works for all three.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?*
Good. They tear more easily than normal wipes (because they need to in order to be flushable), but not so easily that it affects their use - just the right balance. No problems flushing them either.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Mostly positive - speedy delivery, friendly customer service and the wipes themselves are good.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Due to my daughter's reaction, I couldn't recommend them (which is a shame, because I otherwise liked the product)

NwStStJt Thu 07-Jan-21 17:42:09

1. I liked what the company stands for with trying to be plastic free and the aesthetic of the brand.
2. No I wouldn’t replace Pura Wipes with my usual as I find my usual brand wipes to be less expensive, larger in size, wetter and don’t tear when picking out of the packet.
3. I’m half and half on the quality, I found the packaging great and plenty wipes packed in but also because of this they tore easily or were too hard to separate when trying to reach one out of the pack (not the best when trying to change a wriggly baby whose had a poo!). Also, just my personal preference that I prefer a more wetter than average wipe.
4. Overall, it’s great that they’re flushable and plastic free but they aren’t the easiest of wipes to use! Pura website and customer service excellent can’t fault.
5. If I knew someone who was specifically wanting a plastic free, flushable wipe that you can buy a subscription service too I would mention Pura wipes but I found them to be quite average. I personally wouldn’t purchase these myself though.

ivfbabymomma1 Thu 07-Jan-21 17:47:42

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
They were nice & soft. Obviously they are eco friendly which is a big plus
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
If they sort out the smell of them. Can't work out if it's the wipes or the packaging but they really stink
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
They were good but they did clump together making it hard to just get one or two out
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
The customer service & postage was excellent.
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Sadly because of the smell not really

sarah7489 Thu 07-Jan-21 17:53:54

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
Gentle to skin, and handy to flush after toddler use while potty training.
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
Maybe alongside usual wipes, if affordable price.
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
Good, but found easily ripped.
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Easy purchase and delivery, other than wipes ripping easily would have been a great product.
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
If someone wanted flushable wipes possibly.

Jamb16 Thu 07-Jan-21 17:54:24

What did you like most about Pura’s wipes? That they are plastic free and better for the environment
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product? Maybe
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes? They cleaned well and were damp enough unlike some other brands of wipes however I wasn’t keen on the smell
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura? They delivered very fast, next day, and the customer service was great
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else? I would for the environmental aspect but would have to warn them about the smell

TheNewMrsD Thu 07-Jan-21 17:56:41

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?

I liked the fact they are good for the environment compared to other wipes

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?

Probably not

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?

The wipes were too dry and difficult to get out the packaging. I was also not keen on the smell.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?

I like the idea but these wipes are not right for me and my family.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?

I would recommend them as a brand to try if someone wanted to try biodegradable wipes and they could make up their own mind

Nic165 Thu 07-Jan-21 17:56:58

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes? Didn't irritate my baby's skin.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product? If the price was right.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes? Good quality just hard to get individual wipes out of the pack as they all seemed to stick together.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura? 4 out of 5

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else? Probably

sniffysnifferson Thu 07-Jan-21 17:58:33

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
That they were plastic free
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product? Possibly
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes? Excellent quality, however the smelln et them down. I would have preferred them to have a natural oil or something for them to smell better.
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura? 4
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else? Would recommend to someone wanting plastic free at a more affordable price.

VelvetThunder Thu 07-Jan-21 17:59:23

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
I like that the product was so natural and we're environmentally friendly too. The size of the pack and how full of moisture they were was great.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
I would consider it for the right price.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
I really like them, they were a good material, thickness and wetness was good. However like others, I had issues at times with getting them out of the packet. They would clump together and then rip and so would struggle getting one wipe out at a time.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Very good. Delivery was very prompt, even over Christmas which was impressive. Good communication.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
I would recommend, however would also point out the downfalls and compare with my current wipe brand.

beccacooluk79 Thu 07-Jan-21 18:02:57

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
They have the perfect moisture amount to them and clean well.
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
No unfortunately.
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
They were fair quality.
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Great.
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Not very.

DriftGames Thu 07-Jan-21 18:03:51

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
They were very moist and thick, which is great in a baby wipe.
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
No, although they're very moist and thick, the packaging is a huge downfall. They stick together and become very difficult to get out of the packet, and tear very easily. The tearing is forgivable given that they're flushable but the difficulty of getting them out of the packet is far from ideal.
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
Good quality wipes, can't complain about the wipe itself.
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Good, easy website, very quick delivery but frequent reminders to leave reviews which can become annoying.
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Depends who. Someone specifically looking for eco, flushable wipes? I'd recommend. Someone not so fussed about those qualities, j probably wouldn't.

HalfBloodPrincess Thu 07-Jan-21 18:05:31

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
I actually liked the smell! Made a change from the lotiony smell of my usual brand.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
Yes I think I’m going to switch.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
I liked that they were thicker and wetter than my usual brand and seemed to clean effectively. I didn’t like how they clumped together when trying to get them out singularly - I solved this by decanting into an old lidded container but I think this could be improved by the company.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Website was easy to navigate, ordering was simple, and delivery was quick!

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else? I’ve already recommended to a few mums.

Yellowbeansontoast Thu 07-Jan-21 18:07:50

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes? They are nice and thick, feel good quality and did not irritate my babies bottom. I like that there are no nasty ingredients in them.
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product? No, I hated that they all come out together in a big clump when taken out the packet, extremely tricky whilst trying to pin down a squirming baby. I feel there are similar options on the market at a much better price. They also have an odd smell to them.
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes? No issues, I thought the quality was excellent.
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura? Very easy to navigate and order from website. Speedy delivery.
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else? Not very likely, because of the issues mentioned previously. Felt like I would be paying a premium price for a sub-par product.

ElectricEels Thu 07-Jan-21 18:08:12

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?

That they are plastic free and have organic ingredients.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?

Absolutely not.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?

I liked that they were quite thick and very wet. Unfortunately it's impossible to get just one out which is annoying and wasteful. The re-closable tab is rubbish too. The main reason I won't purchase these is they smell awful. I asked my mum to have a sniff and she said they smelled like they had already been used to wipe a bottomgrin.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?

Disappointing. I was looking for a more eco friendly option but the smell and inability to remove one wipe meant they didn't live up to my expectations.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?

Very unlikely.

beth251993 Thu 07-Jan-21 18:09:00

What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
I like that they didn't have anything harmful in them, and good for the environment and also do what they are supposed to do
2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
I would consider using them along side my current wipes
3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
The quality was good but they did tear sometimes when getting out the pack but that's probably avoidable with them been flushable
4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura? I did have a good experience testing these wipes as I did overall like them. I think they are better at cleaning the bum and also face after food than normal wipes. They don't go dry
5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else
Definitely recommend

20viona Thu 07-Jan-21 18:12:34

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes? They were good for picking up crumbs 😂

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
No

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
Completely rubbish packaging which meant that you pull out 20 wipes at a time such a waste.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
Very quick delivery less than 24 hours from order being placed and in Christmas period, but wipes are substandard.

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Unlikely.

Tasha042 Thu 07-Jan-21 18:19:10

1. What did you like most about Pura’s wipes?
Good thick, damp wipes. Stronger than biodegradable wipes I've tried before.

2. Would you look to purchase Pura wipes instead of your usual product?
Yes if they were on offer.

3. What did you think of the overall quality of the wipes?
Great quality. Good thickness, lots of moisture in the pack so they didn't dry out.

4. How did you rate your overall experience with Pura?
5 stars. Delivery was so quick. Ordered at 5PM and they arrived at 8am the next morning!

5. How likely would you be to recommend Pura wipes to someone else?
Definitely will be recommending Pura to friends.
